  1. Yeah, good idea. It really was very useful. Not having a rear wiper will be something I miss, as it's not just about rain.
  2. I disagree. The rear wiper washer on my previous Octavia was very effective in cleaning the rear windscreen. It certainly keep it clean when we were in France in the summer when it got all dusty.
  3. I picked up my new Octavia last week and only today when I was driving in the rain did I realise it didn't have a rear windscreen wiper! All my other Octiavias did, so it didn't even occur to me that I need to "opt in". If it's free, why don't they just make it standard? I've never had to worry about rain repllent, but I will now need to do some investigation on things like gtechniq.
  4. My dealership updated my infotainment software a couple of weeks ago and I assumed it was the latest version, but reading the above posts, it doesn't seem to be... Device part number: 5E3035816H Hardware: H56 Software: 1896 Display unit/control panel hardware: H44 Display unit/control panel software: 2088 Navigation database; 22.1 Media Codec: 3.1.4 Since the update, my sat nav hasn't loaded at all (I've using my android phone instead) and it hasn't stopped the "pop pop SOS" error. The system doesn't restart itself though. I wonder why we all have different software versions.
  5. Find this thread quite late. I've driving my First Edition since 2020 and by and large quite happy with it. But the SOS popping and then crashing is very annoying. I checked my softward version and it showed 1688! More interestingly, both Display Unit/control panel hardware and software are "Unknown"., but I see above that other people's have numbers and letters. BTW, I have taken my car to France the last two years, and throughout the 2 weeks there, the system never popped one. Soon after I drove off the ferry at Portsmouth and got on the A3, it popped and the SOS error appeared!
  6. 1941?! Mine is 1668, which may explain why the SOS popping happens quite frequently and that the infotainment system has crashed a couple of time in the last few weeks.
  7. My Octavia is 70 plate and a 1st Edition. I just checked the software version and it was 1668! Perhaps that explains why the SOS is popping quite often and crashed a couple of time in the last few weeks. I've booked it in for the oil service and a software update in 2 weeks' time. Hopefully, it will solve some of the issues...
  8. Hello! Looks like I'm the first one to reply. The warning light started to appear about 6-8 months ago but it wasn't on permanently. Since a lot of such warnings come on and off for no aparent reason, I have been ignoring it. However, it is now appearing everytime I start the car and is staying on. At the same time, I am also getting stop/start error messages. I don't know if the two are related. The manual said that "a noticeable reduction in engine performance may occur." But I haven't really noticed. My car is due for a services in a couple of months, so I might wait until then. In the meantime, has the issue in your car been sorted out?
  9. Hi Sneal, I scrolled through everything but Settings wasn't one of the options. There wasn't anything "simple" like Display.
  10. Hello. Someone else on a different thread also suggested this, so I tried it this afternoon. Nothing! I scrolled through the whole lot, but to display the trip distance on the virtual cockpit wasn't one of the options. Perhaps my model doesn't have it, which I find frustrating and odd. Wouldn't you think that's basic info when driving? I thought my car was quite well equipped being a First Edition with electronic adjustable seats, etc.
  11. Hello. Someone else on a different thread also suggested this, so I tried it this afternoon. Nothing! I scrolled through the whole lot on the right and on the left but there was nothing to display the time or trip distance on the virtual cockpit. Perhaps my model doesn't have that facility, which I find frustrating and odd. Wouldn't you think that's basic info when driving? I thought my car was quite well equipped being a First Edition with electronic adjustable seats, etc. Any idea about having the time shown on the virtual cockpit?
  12. Yes, she keeps asking me the same question, too. I don't use voice command much, so perhaps she is feeling left out...
  13. Hello fellow Octavia Owners, I have a 2020 First Edition of the Mk IV. Tw yearson and I am still trying to figure this out. Is there a way to have the time and distanced travelled displayed on the dashboard, or the "Drive Information System"? I have seen photos of dashboard where the time is shown above the speedometer on the classic display. The distance travelled is somewhere on the bottom. It was easy with my MK II Octavia to "reset the clock" at the beginning of each journey; just pressed the button. Not so easy now. I know you can see distance travelled, fuel consumption, etc by scrolling through the display, but all the info disappears, so I believe, if the car is parked for more than 2/3 hours. Not much use if you are doing a road trip. Thanks in advance.
  14. Yes, I have that, too on my First Edition. But I think the data is wiped if the car is switched off for more than 2 hours. So, if you are on a road trip, and visit a site for a few hours, the distance you have travelled so far will not be there when you return to the car, which is a pain. I have also seen photos of people's dash board which display the distance travel on the dash itself. I haven't managed to work out how to have that displayed.
  15. Lucky you. My dealer doesn't know why it keeps happening. I can live with the error message, but when it makes the sat nav goes haywire, that's when I get annoyed. I mentioned it when I took the car in for another software update but they said they couldn't find any errors on the system. They told me if it happens again, I should drive to my nearest dealer so that they can record any faults showing and report it to Skoda. I mean, honestly...!
  16. I have had similar experiences with the satnav going bonkers when the emergency alarm error comes on, usually after a few pops. I have spoken to my dealer and they could not find any errors recorded. The emergency error rights itself when the engine is switched off for a period of time. I can live with the mph/kph inconvenience, but I now don't trust the satnav and have to use the mobile instead. I like the satnav, as I can have the map on the dashboard, which doesn't work with the android phone. My dealer is as baffled as I am and all the updates don't seem to have solved anything. I tired to reset the infotainment system by holding down the on/off button, but all I got was the circle going round and round and round. In fact, for the rest of the journey which lasted over 90 minutes!
  17. Yes, my car has been doing it for a while and it also has had updates. It is booked in for more. On two occasion recently when the popping interfered with the infotainment system and sat nav. Once when the whole thing wouldn't even load, so no sat nav, no radio and I couldn't even use my Android navigation. Luckily I knew the route/ The second time the SOS emergency call error appeared and 10 minutes or so later, the sat nav went into a melt down. I was about 5 miles from my destination, and it started taking me in the opposite way and kept asking me to turn left, even if it was a cul-de-sac. This time I didn't know the way, and was relying on it to get me there. The popping was an annoyance before, but it now seems to start interfering with the sat nav, I am a bit more concerned.
  18. Hi folks, I have experienced this popping for some time now but it was only recently when the SOS error appeared on the dashboard. The error disappeared when I drove the car a couple of days later. But today, I was driving pass Heathrow and it popped again and the SOS error appeared. About 20 minutes later, my satnav had a meltdown. I was on the M25 about to turn off onto the A3 and it kept recalculating the route and told me to "turn around if possible", "take the next left to XXX Street", "take the 2nd exit of the roundabout and go onto the A217".... Good job I knew my way by then...
  19. Interesting. I sometimes get this popping sound on my 1.5 SEL 1st edition and I thought it was the radio. It's not that often and I have not had the SOS call error. That was until this morning when I was on my way to the shops. By the time I returned to the car, the error had disappeared and the green light above my head was on again. Another mysterious goings-on...
  20. No, I don't use rain repellent. I don't see the point when I have wipers. Besides there's more chemicals to go into the environment.
  21. An emphatic yes! I use mine all the time. When it isn't raining heavily, the water drops stay on the glass and pretty soon, you can't see out. Heating it doesn't help. I am surprise it not already on your car. My Mk IV First Edition came with it fitted. It's free but you have to tick the option box, so I have been told.
  22. Hi folks, A bit late to the party here. I was looking at how to change the display on the speedometer from MPH to KPH when I eventually am able to drive in France and found that it wouldn't change. Having read through the post, I looked at my 1.5 SEL 1st Edition, and found that my car also had the same system configuration as many of you. 5E3035816 HW: H56 SW: 1664 I pressed Update software and the circle just went round and round and nothing much happened. It's not a big deal and I still think it's a lovely car to drive. P
  23. Thanks very much. I was sitting in the car today and looked this up on the manual but didn't find reference to "SAFELOCK" itself. I didn't make the connection with SAFEfunction. I also didn't know what was meant by vehicle wallet. My old Octavia was a Mk II from 2007 so all these notifications are mind boggling at the moment.
  24. I've only had my new Octavia for just over a week, so plenty to learn. Here's something which is puzzling me. When I switch off the engine, the following warning/notification appears on the dash board: "Please check SAFELOCK vehicle wallet!" This appear underneath a padlock symbol. Nothing else flashes and no explanation. Does anyone know what it is and how I check/fix this, please? My Octavia is 1.5L 150 HP First Edition with a manual gear box. Thanks in advance..
  25. Dear Fellow Skoda Owners, New to Briskoda, though not to Skoda. I had a 2007 Octavia 2.0L TDI L&K which I absolutely loved. It never let me down during the 10 years of my ownership. Sadly, I had to say good bye to it earlier this month. Now I drive a 2020 Octavia SE L First Edition with lots of technology to make friends with. Looking forward to finding out more from the various fora.
