  1. I've never used any of these purpose made nut removal tools, I've always just used a tight fitting socket [not a hex type though ] hammered on. a 12 point socket [ spline type ] is better than a torq type socket as it has more sides to grip you also have more of a choice with sizes as you can use an imperial socket
  2. is there a rotating collar on the locking wheel nuts ? if there is, you'll need to try and cut/ remove the collar first. once it's removed, you could use a locking nut removal socket, but a tight fitting spline socket will work just as well.
  3. cannon profile mats, heavy rubber & better quality than skoda mats, just cut to size, front mats only £10 on ebay
  4. is hill assist not like hill hold, only holds the car for 2 secs or so. auto hold is different, no need to keep your foot on the brake when you stop, it'll hold you indefinitely [ dsg gearbox ] I believe you can only have it with an electronic handbrake though
  5. haha, you'd want the auto hold though cant get that with a manual handbrake
  6. no electronic handbrake or auto hold dsg, electronic handbrake & auto hold - some day all cars will be like this  out of curiousity, does the l&k have spring loaded levers in both sides of the boot to drop down the back seats.
  7. exactly, skoda cars are cheaper than vw & audi and one of the reasons is because of cost cutting. less soundproofing, no hydraulic bonnet lifter, no electronic handbrake, no auto hold etc if skoda and seat came with all the trimmings, nobody would buy audi
  8. the lidl roof bars at £27 are great value I wouldn't spend that kind of money just to carry the mother in law though just use a tow rope and drag her along
  9. what colour is the car ? hatch or estate ?
  10. it's asking a lot to find a trustworthy dealer anywhere the only way to know that service has been done properly or even done at all, is too diy some people even stamp the service book themselves afterwords though  in god we trust, everyone else must pay cash , but check for counterfeit notes
  11. and the ever increasing big birds flying in and out of heathrow etc
  12. there was a bit in one of the newspapers the other week, a guy put his car into a dealership for a warranty repair, and they gave it out to another customer as a courtesy car i'm sure there's alot more goes on in dealerships that the customer does'nt know about.
  13. depends if you've got the cash to buy outright, you can get a new vrs tdi estate for £19720, should be worth more than £10300 when 2 year old
  14. thanks for the link, just had a read, all this act stuff intrigues me, it all seams rather complicated. back in the old days, if your engine was running on 2 cylinders, it was f00ked now they call it progress remember vag don't exactly have a great track record with there tsi engines all tsi engines have, or have had faults to some extent as I said before, time will tell, I really hope they have got it right this time
  15. it's a complete new engine then ? not a modified version of the previous 1.4tsi
  16. is the ea211 a complete new engine or just a modified version of the 1.4tsi i realise that most problems where with the twincharger version, but alot of the failures showed how fragile this engine is. the changes vag have made to this engine , may or may not fix things, i guess time will tell. imo, it's a risky business buying a 1.4tsi, especially if you intend keeping the car out of warranty.
  17. the belts maybe good for the life of the engine but are the engines good enough for the life of the belts ? performance wise the 1.4 tsi is good, but the same cant be said about the reliability. there's been too many problems with these engines for my liking. i'll stick with a big dirty diesel for know
  18. i've been looking for a mkii vrs dsg hatch for a while now, came across this http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=604925252 £16k for a car that's nearly 3 year old, are they taking the pi$$ ? if i remember right the blackline was £20k new, and most cars halve in value after 3 years . surely there miles off on there pricing ? you can get a nearly new mkiii for not much more.
  19. over £5k off a vrs here http://www.buyanewcaronline.co.uk/skoda/octavia/octavia-diesel-hatchback/2.0-tdi-cr-vrs-5dr/ don't know what discount carwow offer, is it any better ?
  20. I sold a car to them a few weeks ago, got the same price as Arnold clark and motorpoint where gonna give me on a trade in. they offer you trade/ bottom book price, then when you take the car into them they try to knock the price down further. I asked the guy what they do with all the cars they buy, he said they all go to bca auction, even if there in top condition. he said they don't retail any cars they buy and that bca owns webuyanycar so they pay next to nothing in auctioneers fees. so they give you less than auction price for your car and send it straight to auction. the thing is though, if you take your car to the auction yourself, you'll have to pay the auction entrance fees & there commission etc so you wont be any better off.
  21. are you sure the mk3 needs a full hex can, the ross tech website says it should work with a micro can cable. i dont have a mk3, but i do have a micro can cable can anyone confirm if a micro can cable will work with the mk3, be good to know, i'm thinking on buying a mk3.
  22. obviously some problems have to be fixed by the dealer, due to specialist equipment etc but sometimes with small easily fixed problems, it's quicker and better to fix it yourself you shouldn't have to do it, but sometimes it's the best way.
  23. dealers are taking the pi$$ with 2nd hand prices, £17k for a 2 year old vrs  you can get a discounted new mk3 vrs for £19500 fools and there money are easily parted
  24. is sawtoothing a problem specific to the vrs ? anyone had sawtoothing on an elegance or se model ?
