  1. Technically not correct. My wife’s cars MOT due. The rear high level brake light had failed not the bulb so probably wiring close to the hinge. Pre-emptied the MOT by asking a guy that does MOTs and he said disconnect it. If you can prove it’s disconnected it will pass. So disconnected the wires and left them out so obviously disconnected. Car passed MOT no questions asked. As long as the normal brake lights work that was sufficient. So if the spare is a problem, just remove it. If it’s not there it can’t be failed.
  2. No it will never stop you passing an MOT, same as not having and oil and filter change as long as emissions are OK. Thing is if it’s expired and no good when you actually need it, it’s too late. Must admit my Octavia is the first car I have ever run long term without a spare wheel. Previous car a Civic diesel I had for 3 years and bought a skinny spare as at the time I was driving 18k a year but now a lot less. Either way a spare is definitely the safest option I guess. The inner poly housing can be removed from the boot space to house a spare quite easily.
  3. Never heard of a noodle kit. Will research. Edit: can’t really find much on kits for cars. Lots about bikes. Any hints please.
  4. Cannot see a locking wheel nut adapter in there, major issue if you haven’t got one. Where the Jack and winder on the Kodiaq.
  5. My Octavia has just been serviced and it’s been noted that the tyre sealant has expired. Certainly not going to drop £73.00 for a replacement bottle if I can use an alternative. Any recommendations for a specific replacement or will any off the shelf tyre sealant be fine.
  6. Price includes VAT. Consumer pricing must always include VAT in the quoted price. Only b2b can exclude VAT but it must be shown as an additional figure on the final invoice.
  7. I’ve had the dealer confirm on the 1.4 the price is £500 and does not include the WP as it is on the other end of the engine. I was going to argue the point about the WP not being required but it wasn’t included anyway. Apparently the true full price of the cam belt change is over £700. They actually gave me the parts list and prices and this came to £271.53 so the rest is Labour quoted at 3.8 hours for the work. But £500 it is.
  8. Been quoted £500 just for the Cambelt as service is included in my service schedule. I'll take note of the Water pump and see if they say thats included.
  9. Yeah just taken mine in for major service at my local Skoda dealer and been quoted £500 for the cam belt change. Guess I will not be going to a Skoda dealer at that price. What price was yours if you dont mind me asking.
  10. My car is going in for its last service I got free with the car. Its a major service I'm told and mileage is just under 52000. I've also had a message from the dealer to say that come October 2022 the cambelt will need replacing, so 5 years only 52000 miles. I guess mileage is irrelevant and its age thats critical.
  11. The dealer will still insist on running Diagnostics to find the error code. No Code no repair even if you can prove with a photo that the problem occurred under warranty.
  12. I had this happen to me. Error on screen but no error code recorded. See my comment here. Not sure how you get around this other than to hope that at some point it is logged.
  13. The SD card is navigation only not for updating the infotainment unit. You can login in to the Skoda portal with your VIN to update maps. You have to use Skoda format SD card for this, any other will not work.
  14. That’s typical. They won’t do anything without diagnostics first it’s more money to them. Any decent garage with their own code checker should be able to confirm and fix. Micro switch isn’t expensive. https://www.deutsche-parts.co.uk/vw-audi-skoda-seat-mqb-cars-dsg-gear-selector-repair-kit-new-genuine-vw-part-1.html might not even need all that repair kit.
  15. Apparently the new switch can piggyback the old switch and is relatively easy job to do. Any garage should be able to sort for an hours Labour. As for leaving it should t be a problem as long as there are no permanent warning lights on the dash as that’s an MOT fail.
  16. When I got in to the car I saw the corner of the packaging around an air freshener hanging below the glovebox, but it would not pull out. I was in a slot about 3cm wide and the corner had dropped trough. The gap being narrow would not allow me to pull the air freshener through so resorted to dropping the glovebox out and thus finding my lost items.
  17. Lost a bank passbook and my damn passport a few months back. Ripped the house apart, ripped the car a part or so I thought. I knew that if I found the passbook I’d find my passport, but to no avail. Ended up cancelling my passport as reported lost 3 weeks ago as I need it for a holiday later this year. Found it today inside the dashboard of my Octavia. When closing the glovebox the passport and bank book had tipped out and landed behind the glovebox inside the dashboard. So if you are missing anything, selling or buy an Octavia check behind the glovebox, you never know what you might find. ****ed off is an understantment.
  18. You have to have a Skoda SD card with Amunsden Infotainment as data is read from the SD card to use the SatNav. The Columbus units I believe download the data to store internally so you can use any SD card. They can be updated at home from the internet. I bought a 32GB off ebay for £29 with the 2021/2022 maps and it works fine for my Amunsden unit. But yes the dealer should provide one to start with. Updates can be downloaded here https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-GB Thought the Cam belt was 5 years irrespective of mileage.
  19. My 67 Plate 1.4TSI auto locks after 45 seconds. Not sure the auto locking can be turned off through the InfoTainment unit though so sounds like something amiss.
  20. No warranty on a car for this money though. Best forget it and buy again from a dealer and save a bit in the process and get a warranty with it. Pay a bit extra and get 2 years warranty.
  21. Seems Expensive. I bought a 67 Plate 1.4TSI with 33K miles 12 months ago for £13K, it was just 3 years old. Second Hand prices are higher at the moment, but I think you could get the 1.4TSI similar age to yours for less money.
  22. Bring back Chains, no reason to have cam belts other than keeping the service sector happy.
  23. You cannot trust any dealer to do the right thing. I had a car serviced at Bristol Street (My old Ford not Skoda). The weather was crap when I picked up the car so I didn't bother looking under the bonnet. When I got the car home and took a look the whole engine cover was missing. I went back the following day and asked why the cover had been left off. The answer was that they broke it and couldn't get it to fit. Absolutely no mention of this when I picked up the car. OK it was eventually replaced, but the fact remains that things happen and we are not informed accordingly.
  24. LED Headlights do not generate any heat to dry out the condensation. It is a common problem. I have a 67 Plate TSI with the same issue, but its never been and issue that affects driving or function. It will eventually disappear.
