P0171 Help
I've done the brake servo one as it had split. Yet to check the rest, but the PCV valve seemed alright last time I checked. Haven't used an fuel cleaners or stuff like that really. I've driven it like I've nicked it quite a few times to try and gut things out, Italian tune-up, in other words, but no joy.

Likewise, the man at our local one doesn't like me, and it's on a booking-only basis so I don't get the opportunity to do any 'hunting'.

which mk1 fabias came with remote locking?
It's usually an indicator (looking at models for sale) that ones without electric windows don't have central locking.

I did eventually get this system going. No, not today. It was, surprisingly, the same day I started. Runs alright, but Christ it feels slow compared to the Fujitsu system my Granda has, although, it does have a 7200rpm drive over this IBM's 5400 unit.

Hello from Scotland
Welcome to the forums, Andy. Greetings from a fellow Scot.

which mk1 fabias came with remote locking?
Most ones with manual windows do not have central locking. As @sepulchrave says, 1.4 16v beats 1.2 in all ways really. If you want a good one, 1.4 16v Elegance will see you right.

How To: Centre Console Cup Holder
Yes they're OEM. Insert the part number that is supplied in my post (beginning with '6Y...') and search for it on auction sites etc that are local to you, as they are a rare part.

P0171 Help
Mileage - 72,000 (nearly) Plugs are gapped correctly, good spark. Changed at 62k. Had a look at this, and the attached video. I can retrieve the VCDS figures tomorrow if/when it's a bit less rainy.

P0171 Help
Hi all, I believe I posted about this issue before as the car was running rich to offset this lean running issue. It still isn't running quite right, despite a replacement front section/downpipe, pair of new lambda sensors, and a new manifold pressure sensor. All the sensors fitted are Bosch/NTK/VW OEM spec sensors. I've been dealing with this for some time, with my wallet taking the brunt of it. Note - The engine cutting out issue I had previously was resolved by replacing the pre-cat lambda sensor. Although the worst of the running issues was resolved, I still see inconsistent fuel economy (measured with Fuelly) with it varying wildly between 28mpg and 56mpg (on one occasion). Instead of furthering my parts darts crap (although a few things were actually FUBAR, like the downpipe which was amusing until I was nearly gassed), I decided to finally get VCDS-Lite running to find some fault codes. This is what I've found: Control Module Part Number: 03E 906 023 D Component and/or Version: SIMOS91 1.2l 4V 9510 Software Coding: 0000071 Work Shop Code: WSC 13765 1 Fault Found: 16555 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1: System Too Lean P0171 - 006 - Short to Plus - Intermittent Readiness: N/A ___________________________________________________________ As far as I'd read on here and elsewhere, many of these issues are caused by dicky pipework and suchlike, particularly the PCV valve and brake servo hose. The former looks fine, and felt alright too. The latter had split previously and was replaced for a brand new TPS part. As discussed with Breezy_Pete previously, he suggested 'short to plus' would indicate an electric issue, but I'm wondering if there's anything specific I should be concerned about. Both of the earth leads (I had one, and then fitted another) are perfectly grounding the car when it's checked with a multimeter. I have, of course, tried the old 'IT Crowd' method of "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" - this has caused no change, besides me having to set the clock and my stereo again. As a potentially related note - I seem to have an electrical gremlin that crops up periodically, where if I have the headlights and wipers on, the car sometimes switches both off and on again at random, causing the likes of the wiper relay to reset. May be related as I think this is a grounding issue, but not sure where to start. If it isn't clear, I'm not sure where to start at all in sorting this out, I've tried ruling out usual suspects but could do with more advice before I go completely insane and set this bloody thing alight or something. Cheers.

Skoda Symphony Cassette - No Backlighting
Had a further look at this, it seems to be missing a pin on the back of the head unit at the ISO connector area. I'll post a photo once I have the spare phone running enough. Bigger fish to fry at the moment anyway.

And yes, most definitely subjective time. Enough to reconsider my life decisions thus far, at least.

It's still copying the hard drive to my modern laptop. Many cups of tea have been drank, nothing alcoholic as I will still have to drive back home.

I'd be thinking gear linkages, but I'm not a professional.

There's an IBM Aptiva sitting in front of me. I'm copying the contents of the original 4GB hard drive to my PC, and writing some of the original IBM reset discs to a set of CD-Rs to do a fresh install of Windows 98. I'll report back in a moment.

EPC relates to 'Electronic Power Control', so the likes of the electronic throttle on the car, for example. It would be more worthwhile (and a damn sight cheaper) to have the car connected a diagnostics system to retrieve codes rather than playing a game of parts darts, as there's only so much we can do over the Internet without codes and suchlike to work with.

Skoda Symphony Cassette - No Backlighting
Aye that would do actually Pete, I'll post it down after Christmas. I'll try what @skomaz has said as well about the connectors first, and some more troubleshooting. Aye I managed to use the (helpfully annotated by the previous owner) manual to find that the 'ign' setting is set so that it should go on and off with the key. I'll try messing with the pins and suchlike. Cheers both, and @@Lee - I like a 'hammer' approach to troubleshooting.

Perhaps. I wonder if there's a way to repair it.

Cheers. I'll mess about and see what comes of it. It's the lack of backlighting that's doing my nut in though, can't see the display at night.

Cheers Lee. Backlighting works with an MS202 and my VW Gamma but I'll check it anyway.

Skoda Symphony Cassette - No Backlighting
Hi all, Bought one of these that came from an Octavia originally for my Fabia and it plays fine and all that. However, the backlight appears to not come on with the lighting, and the stereo won't switch off when I take the key out. Has anyone had this issue with one of these units? 20221223_180412.mp4

216k miles on the clock. How long will my Fabia vRS last. :)
2006 model here, 71,000 miles (just a young thing in comparison, but I'm in Scotland). Little scabby on the rear end of the driver's side sill, and at the arch where the bumper meets the arch on that side too. Nothing that a wire brush and a touch of paint can't sort when it's warmer.
