Superb Estate foreign travel bulb kit
As per others, I've never bothered with any of the supposed requirements, just the stuff I want to use (i.e. high viz and triangle). The breathalyser (when I did used to think they were required) and the light kit, I never have bothered, because I figure if asked then the police could never prove me wrong if I said "As it happens I used both this morning officer, just on my way to Carrefour now to buy new ones". I actually got pulled for a violation four years ago in France, having got sick of waiting at a busy in-town junction I blasted out into the path of traffic. A Gendamerie instantly appeared out of nowhere on a motorbike. Gulp! My first thought was here's a fine coming up, instead he appeared to clock we were English, his English was very poor, so I just got a 10 second 'educational' message that in France this is not legal (yeah, it isn't in England mate) and then waved on our way. No checking of anything in the car. I have also been done for speeding in Poland (I'm not proud of these things by the way) and had to pay a cash fine to the officer. He did check my passport (he had a Russian in his car who he had arrested for not carrying his paasport) but again he had zero interest in checking the contents of my vehicle. I'm not saying they never would check, but you'd have to p!ss them off with some attitude to have them start probing about. They're too busy in reality. I'm currently 500 miles into France and got no spare bulbs etc, and one week into being in France and covering a good 1000 miles since Calais I have seen one Gendamerie and one traffic cop (virtually asleep at a service station). In that time I must have seen 50 British cars who don't have either GB on their licence plate, not a UK or GB badge slapped on the boot (which funnily enough, as a visible item I do have one f these). Not seen one person pulled over. In that time I've also sat on a minibus on a daytrip that consistently drove at 70kph through 50kph village limits, and easily 60kph through 30kph limits. Just to put things in perspective, what British people do or don't have in their cars pales into significance in comparising to everything else happening throughout the country all day! I honestly wouldn't waste your money on anything, nor spend and furthet timr worrying about any of this, as the cops aren't! Show this to the missus if she isn't convinced. As with most of Europe, times are tight, outside of the major cities you simply don't see police driving around anywhere, there aren't enough to do so.

Faulty fuel level needle?
It didn't go up, it stayed static on that reading for a long time and then started to decrease at the same time the needle finally started to drop. Everything I said did happen, I was there and I was driving the car.

Faulty fuel level needle?
I just want to say you are 100% correct that the needle on a full tank does not start to drop for a long time. The estimated range is in fact incorrect too. Drove off on holiday today (in Europe, so I am talking KMS today) and this morning I filled the tank at Dover prior to boarding the ferry. The estimated range showed 1024kms left, around 1.5/2 hours later the needle had still not dropped from the full position (which I know is always the case) but I never usually pay attention to the range, and in fact today noticed after the 1.5/2hrs that the estimated range was still on 1024kms. So, it's a fact that the measurements stop at the needle on the full position, but the tank actually holds a lot more fuel than the needle and estimated range reports back.

Sudden (and temporary!) Infotainment death. This may be of interest.
Thanks. I haven't had it back again since the first time, so I am inclined to just leave it until the first service gets done and I'll ask then. I had my fill of dealer visits when I was trying to get the software on my MK4 Octavia sorted (well documented in the relevant forum section!) so I have no appetite to start all that business again. (Unless it happens again haha)

fob battery
Had my Superb 12 months and two weeks and still using the original battery that came in the fob.

Sudden (and temporary!) Infotainment death. This may be of interest.
Just logging this here in case a Superb user experiences the same, may help you understand and deal with the issue. My issue yesterday in a nutshell was that I was out in the car and around 30 mins into the journey was flashed an error message that SOS was not working. I soon afterwards realised the GPS was out of whack as I was on the A1, not a field 2 miles from it - needless to say the satnav went nuts trying to recalculate my route. I tried a soft reset of the infotainment by holding the power button down. Following that, it remained stuck on the user login screen the whole journey, although I could switch it off and back on, but could not login and use anything. I did notice every time I tried switching it off, it would briefly show the software version screen before turning off. I have a suspicion therefore that the software had been updating in the first 30 mins and then had an error while trying to install it. I was on a day out so the car was left for hours but, as suspected, when I returned and started the car everything was back to normal (software update now completed correctly, if my suspicion is correct). 2.5hrs of driving later it had not happened again. I highly doubt it was weather related, as yes the car was in the sun before we set off at 9am, but the thermometer showed 32 degrees when we wet off home, so I am ruling that out. Touch wood for no repeats, thought this may be useful anyway in casr anyone else gets this. Frankly I see no point taking it into the dealership at this point, as they will just say they are unable to replicate the fault - which is fair enough, unless it happens again and stays that way. I did initially add a reply here in the Kamiq thread (having performed a search for this issue on the forum):

Sos error phone workshop gremlin
Mine's a 2021 Superb but I had this today and I believe it may be linked to a failed software update. It happened about 30 mins into driving (enough time for a software update), lost the SOS and satnav too. Radio was working but then after trying an infotainment restart, while driving, I couldn't even get passed the user login screen. However, get this... Whenever I switched the infotainment off again, I briefly seen the software version screen flash up! That suggests to me an update had been applied, but something went wrong. I guessed that it would vanish after a full reset (i.e. leaving the car a good while) and as I was on a day out it indeed was left a good while. Lo and behold no issues on start-up, then 2.5hrs of fault free return home. Fingers crossed it was a one-off, but everything I seen points to an update issue.

Service Notification.
Further demonstrating (I think) that the dealers are absolutely clueless, I got my car from a dealership over 200 miles away who set it to variable servicing. They were texting me about two months ago that it was time to book the car in for a service. Obviously being 200 miles away they ain't ever seeing this car again, but anyway the car has only just gone a year old, so two months was somewhat premature, but also...it was they who set it to variable and it isn't due in for another year from now (although in reality I suspect it will call up an oil change before year two comes around). I have previously said on this forum that I would service any car annually regardless, but having done further research I now appreciate the car does not need a service until it tells me (and my nominated 'service partner) that one is due, obviously excluding any interim issues. I am paying enough for this car, so on reflection am happy to await the car telling me it is service time, and not blow one of the two services on my service plan when it is not needed.

Another Drivers Seat Position Post
Same here haha. I also find myself ducking on motorways to see if anything is about to join on the sliproad next to me, as well as ducking while overtaking to make sure the car to the left doesn't suddenly put on its right indicator. Given all this, it still amazes me people add stuff like air fresheners and fluffy dice etc hanging from their mirrors and removing even further vision. To be honest, strictly speaking we are probably breaking the law, but then the police don't stop people with furry dice etc, so....

Another Drivers Seat Position Post
6' 1" and I have the seat very high, as when it's low I can't see the dials properly due to the wheel, but also really hate sitting in a race-driver bathtub position in saloon cars. I find the position mostly fine, other than the internal mirror obscures some vision, but for taller folk that is an issue to some extent in almost every car. The only other issue is I get lower back pain on very long trips, but again I think that's just the name of the game. We didn't evolve over tens of thousands of years to be seated for 5 hours at a time.

Fuel Prices
Can't remember the price at the time, but I filled up three weeks ago with 125 miles showing as remaining fuel, and it took £103 to do it. Prices dropping in the north east though, a garage that was 189.9 five days ago was 182.9 on Saturday.

Skoda Superb amundsen map update
Honestly, don't worry about anything like how long your ignition is on, stopping the car, etc etc. You're 100% fine to just use your car and pay no attention to whether software is downloading etc, it is. Oh p.s. not all road speed limits are shown. I was using a B road in Yorkshire at the weekend and no limit was shown on it. Also be wary on unfamiliar roads, as I know of at least one road in my area that has a 50mph stretch because of having loads of side-junctions, and the nav shows 60mph at least 1/3rd of a mile before actually getting to the physical road sign where it does go back to 60mph. Whether it's a GPS issue or the nav doing something wrong, just be careful in case Plod is watching for 'early adopters'! As with all things satnav, add a pinch of salt to what it tells you.

MySkoda/Connect - Area Notification
Ah, right. In that case I assume that when I used to use it it simply wasn't working, or I hadn't activated it properly. It does have an easy to use on/off slider on the app for each 'area' that has been set-up, so it does still have value as I can switch it on in a jiffy for the times I am not using the car. Not a problem given, like most people, I pick my phone up a zillion times per day to do something. Cheers for info.

MySkoda/Connect - Area Notification
This is probably more a general query than a Superb-specific query. I've previously had the Area Notification set-up in the MySkoda app in my Octavia MK4 and also in this Superb, and never received any notifications that the car has left the area I have set up (i.e. at home). This I have always taken as being correct, because the car never left the area in an unauthorised manner, or 'it was never stolen'. That was however using the older version of the MySkoda app, which a few months ago updated to a newer version. I had moved home and never set up a new Area Notification, but a week ago finally set one up for home. Now whenever I leave from home in the car, when I stop driving and look at my phone I now have a MySkoda notification as well as an email telling me the car has left the 'home' area. That's great in that the feature works, but it is supposed to be to notify of 'unauthorised' movement, according to Skoda's blurb. As I am using the main driving key (and both keys are paired anyway), and I am logged into the infotainment with the same account as on the MySkoda app, that to me is not an unauthorised movement. Is this the case of the newer version of the app being a total divvy, or (surely this can't be the case) is it supposed to notify the MySkoda account holder every single time the car leaves the set area? I thought if working the way I thought it did then that would be fab as, for instance, I don't take the car to work, so it's a pair of eyes watching the car for me while I am not home, especially as you can see the cars location (useful if it did get nicked). But if it is actually meant to message you all the time, that would be extremely dumb. Anyone else using this feature and experiencing this?

So, I have KESSY but I have a question about the physical key that is 'hidden' in the remote
Yeah bit bizarre that one.

So, I have KESSY but I have a question about the physical key that is 'hidden' in the remote
Does the alarm actually activate when you use the physical lock to lock it? I ask this just because every car I have had where you can pop off the door handle to lock it, I do that whenever I go on a ferry...precisely so the alarm is not activated. (Listen when the ferry pulls out and hear the hundreds of alarms from all the people who didn't do this, with their batteries depleting all the way to France). I haven't been on a ferry in my Superb yet, so never locked it this way, and thus no idea if the alarm activates.

Service plans - worth it and are they all that's required?
I went into a 2 year plan when I bought the car, which seems to fit with year 3 being an extended scope, as my two year plan is oil and inspection. I'm paying £16.50 per month on direct debit over the two years, which equates to £198 per year. So, going off the blue table above you could say in theory I am over-paying by £13 (OMG how will I manage?) but in reality I took the 2 year package precisely so I don't have to pull out the full amount in one go in both years...particularly useful if 'extras' are identified as required, my bill will already be minus the £198 already paid. And irrespective of whatever a schedule may say, i.e. suggested as only starting in year 3 or not, I would never ever let a 12 month period pass without a full oil change on any car irrespective of condition or age anyway. As I have said before on this forum, I find a service schedule and service plan can only ever be 'worthwhile' to each individual owner's car, desires, circumstances etc anyway. Some folk don't ever service their cars for years and don't care, and their cars don't suffer! That's not for me though...

Manœuvre and front assist
No idea what model and year does what, but several times I have put mine into reverse to get off the driveway a person has walked past while I am stationary and the car does a solid beep to warn me there is a pedestrian behind, it actually picks up people walking by on the opposite side of the road.

Onscreen temperature display.
Just for clarity, in my original OP at no point did I ask for anyone's opinion on anything. I'm asking a settings query. If people don't have a response relating to settings knowledge, then please don't respond to the thread. Thank you. p.s. they have onscreen functions in cars because cars also carry passengers.
-
Onscreen temperature display.
Haha I don't want it full stop, I don't want to tap the screen, I don't want it to appear in the first place. You'll know from my OP that I assume there is no setting for this, but there should be! I never understand the purpose of double-dip information. There is an LCD display with the temp, there is zero requirement for an onscreen display of it.
-
Onscreen temperature display.
When either the driver or passenger adjusts their temperature the small LCD display next to the temperature knob adjusts to the desired temperature. The infotainment screen also brings up a display to do the same, which stays onscreen a short while. This sometimes blocks access to pressing functions behind that display. It's not a huge issue, but I am wondering if anyone has found a way to stop the infotainment screen from bringing up the temperature display? I have scoured the manual, car settings and forum and not found anything obvious, so the answer may well be that this isn't possible, but worth an ask.

parking in a box/garage?
I would say from my experience parking in super-short multi-storey car parks that the DSG is certainly smooth enough to reverse with confidence. You will more than likely have to disable the car from auto-braking though or it will be stopping you well before you get to your 5cm. Then you have the problem of getting the car moving again, and as that requires a convincing squeeze of the gas pedal you will lurch backwards as the brake releases, and be at risk of hitting the wall...or the car stopping you again, so be ready to disable everything that is screaming at you to stop. In car parks I can usually get the red line on the reverse camera to match up just before the wall meets the ground and that usually means the part of the car sticking out furthest will be cm's from the wall, although I don't know if I have been as close as 5cm. Not far off probably though.

How do I view Skoda Connect services?
Thanks. Is there actually a menu item you have to go into where the nav will present to you the route you have sent to it, so you can save it?
-
Car Iced up, now where’s that ice scraper……
By the time you've scraped the windows with that tiny thing you may as well just sit in the car with the heater and blowers both on max anyway and not have your own parts frozen! 🥶

How do I view Skoda Connect services?
@GarySN my Superb is all of 6 months old and is exactly the same, there is no Skoda Connect option/menu on the infotainment. I have previously sent routes to the car, and sometimes a message pops up (usually about 15 mins into driving) to say a route has appeared, do you want to save it etc. Sometimes they don't appear for hours. For the past couple of months no route I send to the car ever appears though. I tried one yesterday and it again failed. I don't massively care, because if I know an address to send it in the first place then it also takes just seconds to search for it after starting the car. It's just another example of Skoda stupidity sadly. I have posted several times about stuff said in the manual that simply does not translate into the real world. This is another one.
