  1. I’ve stopped doing any updates now, every time I do one it seems to screw something up
  2. Yeah I’m aware of all of your points, and just to make it clear I don’t drive it like I stole it or floor it out of junctions (not often anyway😉). I think some of my gripes are just that I’m getting on a bit now and remember the days when the driver drove the car rather than the computers and gizmos. But on topic, if you are after a VRS then the phev is not the one to go for imo. And agreed on the point that if you do a lot of motorway miles then the diesel is probably the better bet. If it’s fun you’re after though then get the petrol with a manual gearbox!
  3. I have a VRS phev, which I assume is what you’re looking at (I’m not au fait with all the acronyms!). For me it shouldn’t really be called a VRS as it doesn’t drive as I would expect a proper VRS to drive. Perhaps it’s the way all hybrid vehicles drive but I find the relationship between the electric and petrol engines really disjointed (when driving in hybrid mode obviously). Sometimes it’s like even the car itself doesn’t know when to change gear / have the petrol and electric engines kicking in, so it feels clunky and almost like old school turbo lag. As for using the flappy paddles to properly “drive” the car then forget it, I’ve got absolutely no idea what gear it’s in / what revs it’s at. Also you can forget about accelerating even remotely hard when the road is slightly damp as it just wheelspins, no matter how gentle you try to be with the throttle. So I guess the question is do you want a proper VRS or are you happy to have a car that has the badge and looks but doesn’t really drive like a VRS should. Are you interested in the hybrid for the electric aspect? As the range on electric only is crap tbh. I’ve not even mentioned the handling of the phev either, which again isn’t what I would expect from a “performance” model. As you can tell I’m not a fan of the phev and would never in a million years spend my own money on one (I had no choice as mines a company car). But that’s just my opinion and others may disagree.
  4. You’ve hit the nail on the head there. I spoke to a friend today who has just got a brand new BMW I4 and he said it’s a good car but the amount of tech on it is mind boggling. It hasn’t gone wrong on him so far (unlike his old 330E which had lots of software issues) but these days car manufacturers seem to be absolutely piling all this technology into cars and a) a lot of it is overkill and unnecessary in my opinion and b) in the case of Skoda at least, it doesn’t work properly and they themselves don’t know how to fix it. The boot on my car still opens by itself randomly even when the keys are sat on the counter - Skoda have categorically told me my car doesn’t do this, but why would I lie!? Anyway, thanks for the assistance and I apologise as a lot of what I have posted on this forum is negative, and I’m not that kind of guy usually, but I would absolutely love to take a sledge hammer to this car!😂
  5. So, I drove the car for about an hour today in which time the system turned off and on about 10 times. Got home and thought I’d do the factory reset but now the screen just won’t turn on at all and I’ve got lots of error messages on the main dashboard. No radio, no option to turn off the heating or the heated seats which seem to be stuck on. Happy days! Just spoke to Skoda, funnily enough the guy on the phone didn’t even know there had been an update and had to read about it to know what I was going on about. Earliest they can get me in is the 24th November. Honestly, I know not everyone has had a bad experience with their cars but it seems like there are a hell of a lot of us on this forum who have. It’s absolutely doing my head in how AWFUL Skodas are. I will never ever have another one, had so many issues with this goddam car, it’s by far the worst car I’ve ever had and I will be actively advising people not to touch this brand.
  6. I haven’t no, so thanks for the advice. Just frustrating that we have to do this sort of thing, why can’t it just work properly in the first place!
  7. Updated to 1989 software on Saturday, infotainment system has shut down about 10 times since. These cars are absolutely crap, i cant wait to get rid of mine next year.
  8. Yep, similar to me, seems to be some new quirk every week. The voice control thing randomly kicks in from time to time asking me to repeat myself when I’ve not said a word. The boot opens by itself, or stops when it’s halfway through opening. It locks and unlocks itself randomly and of course the infotainment system does whatever the hell it likes. On a weekly basis I get some sort of error message come up telling me some system or another isn’t available. I’m lucky mines a company car so I get to hand it back in a couple of years, if I’d actually shelled out my own money to buy it I’d be fuming. My wife thinks I’m a spoilt child because I’m always saying how much I hate the car, she drives a 15 year old £3k Ford Focus and I drive a £40k 2 year old Skoda and yet I prefer her car over mine. I am a spoilt child I guess, but my point is that if they put all this tech into a car then it should ****ing well work. It’s meant to make our lives easier right, and yet it doesn’t. Also, mines a hybrid VRS and it’s boring as frig to drive, it shouldn’t be badged as a VRS, it should be a Sportline or something which makes it clear it’s not actually a hot hatch. Anyway, rant over😂
  9. I don’t blame you at all, I have a lot of the same gripes with mine. First world problems and all that but I’d rather have an older car these days that I can actually drive myself without all of the gizmos and stuff, but mines on a company car scheme so I’m sure the next one will be just as bad whatever it is.
  10. Happens a lot to me, depends which direction you have the vents pointed (ie onto yourself or the windscreen) and on the outside temp vs the aircon temp. Annoying but not a biggie I don’t think?
  11. Nail hit on head right there. I don’t think it matters whether or not you opt out / disable something via settings, the data is still being collected and will still end up being used somehow, tis the way of the world these days. Unless we revert back to old school cars then the tech is here to stay, that’s progress folks!
  12. Yes, I’ve just downloaded the app again and logged in, lo and behold my scores go back as far as I can see. Got a score of 94 though which isn’t too bad considering I do like to “open the taps” a little from time to time (weather and road conditions permitting of course). Not that that’s the point of course, and I shall be deactivating as much of the monitoring as I can out of principle.
  13. Probably a silly question but I deleted the MySkoda app once it became a pay to subscribe thing. I’m assuming that even though I no longer have the app that the car will still be collecting all of this data and giving me a “driving score”?
  14. Or just turn all that annoying crap off and drive the car like an “old school” car, i.e. one where the human being drives it rather than the computers
  15. Mine is exactly the same, lo = very cold, all other temps are varying degrees of warm!
  16. Mk4 VRS here too, estate. To add to my list of dislikes mine is a hybrid (cos company car) so it’s pretty boring to drive too, really not sporty at all. As a positive it is a good looking car, and the interior is nice (apart from the tech gremlins!). Mines been back to Skoda for a number of issues, and my overall impression of Skoda is not good.
  17. Everybody tells me that this is just how it is with modern cars, lots of tech and it doesn’t always work as intended, but like you I won’t be getting another Skoda, I’ve been massively unimpressed with both the car and Skoda themselves from start to finish.
  18. Mine only beeps when I use the remote to open it, if i just use the button on the boot itself then it doesn’t beep. However I did used to have the issue of the boot just randomly opening itself of its own accord (no, I definitely didn’t sit on the remote or anything like that). Thankfully that seems to have stopped now. These cars are absolutely full of issues like this, the tech on them is a pain in the arse.
  19. Yep mine does this randomly from time to time too. Just another one of its quirks!
  20. Mine activate when I’m passing parked cars or if I’m sat in a queue of traffic. They are a pain in the arse like a lot of things on my car😂
  21. Nailed it in the first sentence. Not had as many big issues as lots of other forum users on here seem to have but honestly I’ll never have another Skoda. It’s like they’ve tried to ram the cars full of technology that they’ve not tested properly and it just doesn’t work. Please go back to basics and make cars that actually just ****ing work properly
  22. God there are some pedants on this forum, never known anything like it. sometimes my car has a smell like burning clutch, usually if I’ve given it some extra gas pulling away or on a hill start. unless it keeps happening a lot then I wouldn’t worry too much.
  23. Glad it’s not just me who can’t get on with them😄
  24. Some wise words on this topic here. It’s easy to fall into the trap of disliking the car because of the tech / various quirks. I’ve learned to live with it now, but I do agree that having everything accessed via the touch screen is a dangerous thing and takes your attention away from the thing you’re meant to be doing ie driving! I have to say that I don’t think I’ll ever have another Skoda based on my experience with the info system and its various oddities which is a shame as other aspects of the car are very good. Hopefully you’ll learn to love yours!
  25. Looks much better from that angle, now I see why you like them👍🏻
