  1. Absolutely up to individual circumstances and If the boot is being used for other things then fair enough. But I open / close the boot far more times than I remove the bike. If the bikes are on a towbar, don't you need to remove the bikes to access the boot?
  2. It's perfectly true that less tech means less to go wrong, but my question would then be, why consider a Skoda rather than a Dacia? It all boils down to probability. Are electric tailgates a common point of failure on VW group cars? Not to my knowledge it ain't. On occasion when one of my passengers decide to close the tailgate, they don't realise it's electric and try to manually close it. ( before I scream at them to stop ). So I wonder how many of these failed tailgates are a result of being mis-treated?
  3. As per BoxerBoy Try not to rev past 3000rpm for the first 1000km and you'll be OK. I don't do anything different with a brand new car than I would when it's 3yr old. Will check the oil more frequently but in reality none of my cars have required an oil top up. As Toot said above, the only think I watch out for isn't really the new engine but new tyres - I'm always wary, especially in the wet, pulling away from standstill. Can't remember having any horror experiences with the Kodiaq but the 19" tyres they fitted to the Karoq were a real bugger finding grip in the first 1000km. In that instance I used ECO mode as it aided traction.
  4. A towbar is a hell of an expence just to carry 2 cycles. Thought a rear door cycle carrier would serve the same purpose? In the past I had a Saris Bones cycle carrier which was excellent. You say you trialled carrying bikes with the rear seats folded. Why isn't that a viable option? What model of Karoq do you have? Easy Peasy solution if you have the flex seating - you either just remove one seat or fully fold the base upwards. ( I had flex seating ). I never tried carrying the bike in the karoq with just the rear backrest folded but don't see why that should be an issue. I now carry the bike inside the Kodiaq - fork mount on shaped plank of wood does the trick. Could easily carry two bikes if I wanted.
  5. Yet six months ago, the same Technical Support Team said the car was equipped with a belt which they recommended was changed every 5 years. If I had paid £500 quid to have a belt changed on their recommendation and then I received a letter worded like that, I'd be livid. Wonder who'll be first to ask for a refund. But from who? The contract is with the garage and the garage were told every 5yr so they haven't done anything wrong. Do you take the garage to court and then let the garage recoup their loss from Skoda UK or do you take Skoda UK to court? Potentially those 'no win no fee' lawyers could have a field day over this.
  6. It's amazing how prices vary. I'm being quoted. Brake Fluid change £74.33 Front Brake and pads £533 Rear brake and Pads £403 My car will be serviced at the end of October. Took out the service plan when it was on offer last month so that's taken care of. My Brake Fluid will be done at half that price by Halfords, the MOT at a local Indi ( £30 ) and I suspect the car will need the brakes and pads replaced.

  8. I see YouTube is filling up with reviews of the Tiguan which is now available to the press. Can't help thinking how much better Skoda is to VW, there's many aspects to the new Tiguan design I couldn't live with. The 1.5 PHEV certainly sounds a better prospect with it's larger battery but depending on price, the 1.5 mild hybrid will be interesting as it allows for running on battery power alone ( I'm guessing more akin to Toyota's hybrids ). Some of these 48v mild hybrids such as the ones from BMW add very little. I get the impression they're more of a marketing exercise than bring any noticeable improvements to your wallet.
  9. As fog lights yes, but few people will regularly experience fog. ( and even then, the fog would have to be lying below the level of these lights. How often does that happen? ) These lights are used on a daily basis however, as cornering lights. In unlit areas, the fog lights of my Octavia were useless as cornering lights, however being mounted higher, they're much better at illuminating corners in the Kodiaq.
  10. As Skomaz says - driving, especially in winter up here in Scotland, on unlit roads in the middle of nowhere, they're brilliant at illuminating the side of the road. On more than one occasion I've seen the eyes of deer in the trees which otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. As long as there's no sign of other cars on the road, they're almost always on.

  12. The only things I've seen are wrap around material mounts which look pretty useless. I've seen mounts advertised for Mercedes but never seen details or other photos on how they fix. I'm sceptical about them Mercedes A Class screen holder there was an alternative tablet mount for rear seat passengers - the mount fitted in to the cupholders on the rear centre armrest. Only ever seen them advertised for the superb so not sure if they could be adapted to fit the Kodiaq. Worth investigating? Superb Cupholder mount
  13. If you were the one having to deliver that upgrade you'd easily find a thousand excuses. It has nothing to do with price, it's administration. Even from the point of a customer requesting help, there's no need to go through flowcharts or a question and answer session to determine what version of a system the helpdesk is having to deal with because everything is uniform. It's so much easier all round using a common platform. Your Windows anology is a perfect example, just that you're thinking about it the wrong way round. Every so often you'll run a Windows update which will update say security. The update may relate to a different processor or different application to the one you have on your laptop, but it's still installed. Your laptop will only use a tiny fraction of the download from Microsoft - it's simply not efficient to tailor to specific needs. I could wipe a large chunk of data from your Windows registry and your laptop would work 100% for the remainder of it's life.
  14. You guys may think that but from someone with an IT background, it's much easier to administer a global update. I don't have a problem with that, what I do have a problem with is the way VAG ( it's not peculiar to Skoda ) have implemented their system. The message: "failure to start background services" just shouldn't be appearing. And don't get me started re: the message which says that for safety reasons, you can't start the update whilst driving... FOR SAFETY REASONS !!!! If you pressed OK and the system did it's thing in the background then we wouldn't have to read their message whilst driving. It reminds me driving thru to Glasgow on the M80, and there was a message on the roadside electronic board near Stepps, which was effectively saying "Keep your eyes on the road" ! FFS, who comes up with this logic?
  15. I know it was 10 months ago but did you call them? What did they say? I'd be returning the car to the dealer who fixed the supposed rear speaker problem. Who am I to say the rear speaker didn't have a leak, but I find it extraordinary that would cause the passenger footwell to be damp. It's very rare for someone to have a unique issues. Never heard of a leak around a speaker before so I'd take an educated guess and say that was never the source of the damp footwell.
  16. I posted about the number of recent updates lately on the Kodiaq forum, updates which initially caused the system to error. I can however shed some light on your questions If you're driving the system wont do anything by pressing OK. ( which is stupid in my opinion, but that's another story ). To get the update running you can do one of two things: 1: If you've stopped at say traffic lights or you pull over, put the auto gearbox in 'P' park ( I assume put it in neutral on a manual ), press OK and the timer icon will appear to indicate something is happeneing. You should then get a confirmation that the update is taking place and you can drive on. If you don't get the 'update is taking place' indication then chances are the update has failed. or 2: Press OK or later and leave it until you've ended your journey. When the engine is off, pull down the menu from the centre top of the screen and you'll see two tabs, one of which says MESSAGES. Select that tab and you see the message again which says there's a system update available. Action that request and the timer will come up and then it'll confirm the update is taking place, or if it's a really small update, will have already completed. When the update is complete it'll try auto try restart the system software. God knows how they've programmed the thing, but when it's booting up, it may say something like "services have failed to start". If it does then just ignore it - select the radio button or whatever and continue as normal. The "services failure" indication won't come up again. These are over-the-air updates which do not require any subscription to connect services. Hope that helps
  17. I had another update message after writing the above. Hopefully that's solved it. Not sure if it's always been there but never noticed it before - on the VC map, an icon of a magnifying glass with an 'A' in the centre has appeared with a message implying press button. Sounds like pressing the right steering wheel button will auto zoom the map. The only auto thing it was doing yesterday was being annoying.
  18. Is anyone else experiencing issues after the latest over-the-air updates? Over the past weeks I must have had three or four OTA update requests which have all installed without issue. However what I've noticed is on several occasions, the volume sticks immediately after the system switches on - not able to adjust via Columbus touchscreen or steering wheel knob. Only a system reset fixes it. And then yesterday the virtual cockpit map stuck, or rather looked to have stuck, it was actually really, really slow to respond. A few minutes after a multitude of scrolling the wheel inputs, they all started to take effect at the same time which made the map ctantly zoom in/out. One second the zoom level would be 200 yards, the next I'd see the whole of Europe. Never seen anything like this since a full software update was applied by the dealer last year.
  19. I couldn't disagree more. Last year you were told by your dealer a cover would be fitted when it becomes available. Your contract is with your dealer. Your dealer is perfectly capable of contacting Skoda HQ. You spoke to your dealer and your dealer said they had no idea. If Customer services also have no idea then how's about this for a theory - Skoda HQ having no idea either. You're coming over as being angry because you're not hearing what you want to hear. You say when you get a car costing £43k you should expect everything to be there. It wasn't there so why didn't you reject the car? They told you a new replacement cover would be fitted when it becomes available and you accepted that. They're saying it's not yet available so what's the problem? Abysmal customer service! You can't be serious. They can only tell you the information they have if front of them. Would you prefer them to lie to you? You can certainly have a go at Skoda themselves but it's not on shooting the messenger. Having a look at previous threads on this topic, some say that a cover is available and members produced a part number for you. So what would I do in your position? If it's available I'd ask the supplying dealer to order it. If they refused then I'd order it myself from their own parts department, I'd ask their service department to fit it for me and then ask the dealer principal to refund my money. Legally he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. But of course that's assuming it's available. I dunno if it is or not. What I wouldn't be doing is having a go at customer services.
  20. Eh? No it's blantant BS. How do they know how your premium has been calculated? They're only brokers, all they do is get a price off the underwriter. They haven't a clue how the premium is calculated because there are so many variables. The only thing consistant about insurance premium calculations are they're inconsistant. How on earth do they know thatfor instance, there's been an increase in claims for drivers in your age group, hence your premium has risen. Premiums are based on many things including statistics.
  21. +1 Why the need for a rev counter in SUV automatic? Why do I want to look at a speedo that goes up to 200mph when my car isn't capable of 200mph. I'd only ever be using 1/3 of that speedometer. I think that dash looks terrible. I have the VC in my Kodiaq. I have it set to a screen that gives me every piece of information I need. 1st world problems again but the newer design seems to be worse than the older one. Anyway, Skoda aside, I've just seen an article regarding the new Passat. WTF has happened to VW designers? They've stuck with the slide temp control rather than dials like the new Superb, VW 's 2024 improvement is they're now backlit those controls Imagine anyone so stupid to offer slide control that don't illuminate at night. Here's me saying my 2020 model better ithan the 2024 but in the Passat's case, their 2002 model was better! Beggers belief that. Back in 2017 I was almost ordering a Passat estate, it was only last minute that I noticed the Octavia. Today? I wouldn't give it a 2nd look. Don't know about the rest of Europe but they won't sell many n the UK.
  22. I use the front and rear fogs. Yeh it's a 1st world problem but the point is I just feel for the handle and pull it one step for driving lights, two steps for fog. When we alter things then it's usually for the better, IMO it's worse solution.
  23. Nah, I'm talking about self parking - push the button and the car looks for a space. If it's hidden in some menu then it's going to be like many other systems which are a pain-in-the-ar5e to operate. VAG currently have the easiest system in the market, it's just brilliant. I just push a button - don't even have to take my eyes off the road. Apologies, my fault - I'd downloaded the Superb dash by mistake. Can see it now., Ta.
