Karoq parking ticket holder
Never paid any attention to the clip fixing but yes I believe it simply fits into a slot when the trim is removed. I removed the pillar on my Octavia to install dashcam wiring but failed on the karoq as I was frightened I'd break the trim - it's fixed in with clips that required more pulling effort than I was willing to try. From memory the airbag sat under the furthest away half of the trim from the windscreen so no need to remove it when the trim is removed. However before I even tried playing with the trim, I disconnected the battery.

Alloy Wheel Sizes?
I see that you are in Ireland and the OP is UK. Whether or not that makes a difference I don't know, but here in the UK if you alter your car from the manufacturer's specification, a condition of the insurance is you have to inform the insurer. It's written in black and white on every UK policy. Whether you adhere to that or not is up to the policy holder, but the above is correct, if you have not informed the insurer of a change then that insurance can be voided. That's dependant on the insurer so it's wise to read the policy. In my experience, all the insurance policies I've had are based on the manufacturers invoiced specification - i.e. when the car left the factory. So if you opt for a sunroof, larger wheels and a upgraded Sat Nav system all fitted at the factory, that's not an issue. If however you ask ACME Sunroof Inc to cut a hole in your brand new car and fit a sunroof, ask Alloys-R-Us to replace the Skoda alloys with their BBS alloys and Halfords to install a Satnav system to the car... those would have to be declared. I have to say it's a tad concnerning that someone who was in the business of administering Law is replacing a legal document with what happens in the real world? 😲 have you ever been in a court? We have a solicitor in this country who the media labelled 'Mr Loophole' who's infamous for examining every single punctuation mark in a policy. He has a long list of rich and famous clients who he's help avoid punishment. Adhering to every word of your policy matters a great deal, especially if a competant no-win-no-fee solicitor gets involved. Jeez Oh. First it's an Irish copper and now it's Inspector Clouseau telling us UK policyholders our legal status. I believe one of Briskoda sponsors is Adrian Flux. https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/blog/2022/06/how-popular-modifications-affect-your-car-insurance/ If anyone has an issue, take it up with Adrian.

All in One Policy vs Actual Practice at the garage?
That's weird but sort of know what you mean. I didn't take out All-in-1 but the normal plan instead. It entitled me to 2 services but I was able to spread them over 3 or was it 4 years? I got the impression it was to cover those on a variable service. I too would have naturally assumed the plan would end when the services were used up. Sounds like VWFS might have alter the algorithm they use

Software update whilst driving?
Confirmed. Another update today, but this time I was given 3 tab options one of which was 'Update now'. Selected 'Upodate now' whilst on the move and the system went and did it's thing without complaining about updates can't take place whilst driving. About time !

LED ambient light below side window - can it be replaced?
Playing Devil's Advocate, the electric door switches are not part of the door card, they're seperate, they fix into the door card. If the light strip were removable then fair enough, but it's not, it's part of the trim. With my Mr Sensible head on, are you saying you've waited 9 months before doing anything about this? 😲 There would have been more than a fair chance under consumer rights if you'd just bought the car, but if you've waited 9 months before doing anything about it: a) you're out of time and b) even if you were to take this further, the fact you've lived so long with this fault makes that fault a minor one.

Software update whilst driving?
That's displayed on a seperate screen. This was different, it was listed in the itemised updates. Next time someone runs the above mentioned update, perhaps they could take a look. Or I'll be able to tell myself after the next update comes along

Software update whilst driving?
Did my eyes deceive me tonight or does the latest OTA update say that future updates can be actioned whilst driving? Downloaded the latest update and the info said it related to an update for 'shop' optoin on Octavia and Enyaq models, also something about being able to pay with PayPal. Nothing that concerns me. But just as I cleared the screen, I though the very last line of the info implied that this update would ensure future OTA updates could be actioned whilst driving. Anyone else see that? If true, that's going to make life easier. I could never see any reason why you had to press the touchscreen several times only for it to say that for safety reasons, the update can only be downloaded whilst the car is stationary, and then it takes another couple of presses to return to the initial screen 🤪

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2
I fitted vectors to my old Octavia and it transformed the noise level from loud with the default summers ( Dunlop Sport ) to near silent. Wouldn't have bothered trying as I did't think it'd have made that much of a difference, but couldn't pass a ridiculous deal at Costco, so thought it worth a try. It's the best £240 on motoring I've ever spent. Long story short - this time noise isn't an issue but I was caught out last year in light snow going uphill ( 20" summer tyres on a Kodiaq going up hill on a single track road not wise ! ) which shook my confidence a little. Anyway a few weeks ago I took up a great offer from National Tyres and ordered Vector 3's for some piece of mind. But then, I was told my current tyres have more tread in them than I'd believed; had 2nd thoughts and cancelled the Vectors. It's something I since regretted. The vectors are now about £120 more than I'd ordered them for. But just this weekend I noticed kwik-fit offering a 20% discount. The vectors weren't available in my size but the Michelins were. It's the best price I've ever seen for CrossClimates in my size so ordered them. Another £20 odd quid off purchasing thru topcashback but the deal breaker had to be the free Michelin smart water bottle. I'd never heard of a smart water bottle before so being into fitness, I investigated further. Smart water bottle is not a term I'd use because It's only becomes a smart ifthe owner is dumb. Apparently it tells you when you need to drink. We've had 300,000 years to perfect the idea, but apparantly it's taken until 2023 to know when we need a drink of water. Skoda Connect and Smart water bottles - I love it when people come up with solutions to problems you never knew you had. 👍 Edit: I'd pay attention to a tyre if the reviews said avoid, but they're all much of the same in normal conditions. When they're being tested, they're being tested in extreme conditions. I'm never going to drive around a hard packed snow circuit in Sweden

Virtual Cockpit Mess
You've always had to order blind - it's one of the downsides of ordering a car that hasn't yet been built. You say brochures are constantly updated? Not in my experience they're not. If that were true then there would be no need to have a disclaimer that prices and specs are correct at time of going to press. Speaking from personal experience, my Kodiaq turned up with a heated steering wheel which I was not expecting. For a period when the 2020 mild facelift appeared, a heated steering wheel was std equipment but the only mention of it in the brochure when I ordering was as an optional extra. Which begs the question, what would have happened to those who paid extra for a heated steering wheel? Have no idea if their order would have gone thru or they'd have been informed it was already included. If you do as advised and contact the dealer and they say, yes the car comes with a 10.25" display then you find it doesn't, you obviously have a legal case for rejection or compensation. If however you were told to contact your dealer for latest spec and you didn't, then when the car turns up with a smaller / cheaper screen, legally you don't have a case. If it's something important to you, then it's always best to get details from the horses mouth and never assume.

Virtual Cockpit Mess
It really doesn't matter what anyone who's already taken delivery of their car says. I doesn't even matter what the brochure says apart from the last piece of information i.e. ( i'm paraphrasing this as I can't remember the exact wording ) "Prices and Specs correct at time of going to press. Please contact your dealer for latest information". Bottom line is never rely on the spec of a car that hasn't already been built based soley on an outdated brochure or a car that's already been built. Contact your dealer.

Karoq Order
That makes no sense. Conned in what way? Pre-reg cars are used cars - they were bought by someone else and now they're being sold. You're buying a car from a dealership, not Skoda. If your dealership doesn't have any pre-reg cars of their own, why would they offer another dealers used car when you said you wanted a new one? You're right - new cars can often work out better value than used cars. It all depends on 1: what incentives / bonuses the dealer has to play with so a discount can be passed on to the customer and 2: That PCP finance incentive. The dealer has no control over that. Just means they'll be paid by a bank rather than you. Nobody is being conned. Don't know what spec those pre-reg cars are but DriveTheDeal broker is advertising brand new 1.5tsi Sportline in Orange for: List price: £35505 Discount price including PCP contribution: £29772 Which potentially makes it a better deal than Rainworth's pre-reg. What it does indicate though is the potential discounts on offer from every Skoda dealer. Choclab hit the nail on the head tho, sometimes It's not all about money and as long as the customer was happy with the deal, that's all that ever matters.

Kodiaq Sportline Tyres
As per JR above. Hope you don't mind me saying, but zooming in, I'd have thought kerb damage is the least of your worries! There's damage over the full alloy radius. What have you hit? Hope you never used the best out of the four to take a picture of.

Cars in £20 a year tax band which is fixed, how come?
It most certainly wasn't a joke, in fact it was one of the few cases where government did what it was supposed to do and was very successful at achieving it's goals. Back in the day the issue was greenhouse gases dissolving the ozone, the main cause being identified as Co2. So there all sorts of schemes around the world to to reduce Co2. In the UK, the then chancellor decided to incentify the purchase of low C02 producing cars. That's it in a nutshell. it had nothing to do with diesel, nothing to do with cheating devices, which by the way was discovered by the Americans testing for NoX. In a relatively short time, the government managed to get us in to lower producing Co2 cars which played a part in Co2 output being reduced. The change in 2017 came about not because of cheating devices or harmful gases, it came because there were far too many cars falling within the set criteria hence Gov were loosing money hand over foot. Just like they're having to change again in 2025 given the increasing number of EV's. VED is all about generating money. What will happen in 2025? Who knows. The OP is right to question that pre 2017 £20 lowest VED band because unless it's since been updated, the government sown paper says the changes will affect existing EV owners. Gov paper - 2025 VED to be applied to EV The elephant in the room is the 'luxury tax' or the "expensive car tax" as they now seem to be calling it, as that adds, at current rates, an additional £390 for cars with a list price in excess of £40000. ( i.e. the vast majority of EV's ) So the question is what will happen to current EV owners who currently pay nothing? As the majority of EV's cost over £40k 2024 VED rate = £0 2025 VED rate = £185 + £390 = £575 ? Personally I think that ridiculous and if true, could put a further nail in the coffin of EV ownership. Was it Osborne who did away with the £20 / £30 fee? At least he kept it for those who purchased their vehicles based on that lower rate, but for the current Chancellor wanting current owners to go from £0 to £575 VED a year thru no fault of their own ! I think it's a disgrace. I think it's ill thought out and I think it could seriously affect the uptake of EV. It's certainly going to cause issues in the used market. Aren't these lunatics supposed to be encouraging us to move to EV? It's almost inevitible that £40,000 limit will be raised for a start. Vauxhall announed it's Astra Estate today - add metallic paint and every Astra estate will cost £575 a year to tax! That's just nuts. Remember I said above that C02 output had been reduced. Since they stopped that £20/£30 low VED rate, C02 output has continued to rise. But just like the war in Ukraine, we've forgotton all about the ozone,

Wheel spin
There's nothing like someone telling others how to drive. Brand new 19" 225/40/19 on our Karoq. It took around 1000 miles for it to settle down, it was never great tho. I'd been using the same right foot to drive for the past 40 years without issue. Stuck all weathers on the car after 2yr - no wheelspin. And it was still the same right foot !

Wheel spin
Noticed the other day that Kwik-fit currently have a 15% promotion on certain tyres, those Michelins being one of them. You may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere but worth a try anyway. If your car has 215/50/18 then enter code BFDEALS at checkout and that should bring the total fitted price down to £631.60 Hope that helps.

Skoda available again on DriveTheDeal
Just noticed that after what must be a years absence, Skoda are listing again on the DriveTheDeal broker website, allbeit in limited range. The one thing I always liked about DTD is the information is usually more up-to-date than you get visiting the dealer. At time of writing they've only listing Fabia, Octavia, Karoq and Kodiaq ( I'm sure I saw Superb listed last night ). One thing I didn't realise was just how much some of the options are these days. £1800 for a pano roof on a Kodiaq 😲 And equipment levels on Karoq. Buy a 1.5 Sportline DSG, add on a pack or two for equipment that's standard in most other cars these days, and you're approaching £40k ! Wow. No wonder they can knock £6k off the price.

Bad braking shudder, likely front or rear?
Without physically seeing the car, nobody will be able to say, but based on probability, my money is on the rear discs + pads needing replaced.

Inspection in X days
It has been on all my VW goup cars. It will either say service due in... service + inspection due in... or inspection due in... What does it say on yours? It gets reset when they service my VW group cars or at the PDI When does it get reset on your VW group car?

Space saver
Can be done but you'd have to raise the load floor as the well is designed for a space saver. Our Karoq, ordered from stock, didn't have a spare so bought one from Gumtree ( unused ) £60 - job done. Replaced the Karoq with a Toyota who wanted over £400 for a space saver! Bugger that. Ebay this time - new wheel for £100. If there's space for it then personally I wouldn't want to be without a spare but can no longer see an argument for carrying a full sized wheel. 40 years of driving and never once required a full size spare, even tho cars used to have them as std.

Inspection in X days
As per Breezy_Pete. The MOT is a legal requirement and checks things that aren't covered by a service. Reading above, I'd take an educated guess that your car is, or at least was, on a variable ( flexible ) service program which basically means it gets serviced every 2yr. What may have happened is they haven't properly reset the service indicator when the car was last serviced, therefore it's just coming up with that inspection message. It's quite common - has happened to me on previous VW products. If you contact a Skoda dealer or Skoda customer services, they should be able to give you information on all the previous services the car has had since new. Entirely up to you whether you want to keep to the flexible service or change it to an annual service.

Failed MOT
You'll see my very recent experiences of the very same problem elsewhere - the difference being my car only covered 13k miles. If you don't want to pay main dealer prices for the same crappy replacements and find fast-fit centres equally as expensive or in my case local brake dealers even more expensive than Skoda! I can recommend using EuroCarParts. You won't find the brakes and pads much cheaper but it also has the benefit of being able to select a local'sih garage who can fit them in a matter of days. I bought Bosch discs and pads and had them fitted for approx £180. in plenty of time b4 the MOT restest. 🤪 Ayrshiredude - I requested my car be given a pre-MOT check a the week b4 the MOT was due ( at the same garage). The car was serviced 48hr b4 the MOT was due. Nobody suggested it'd fail, quite the opposite. I was told the car may need new discs/pads b4 the MOT the following year. It was only when the car was put on a rolling road during the MOT test itself they discovered the point of failure on the discs. When I posted my findings elsewhere, once all the conspiracy theorists arguments were put to bed, one person then questioned why I bothered having a car with such low mileage !!! FFS

ACT only enables after run in period?
Drove the car today and paid attention to the ECO symbol. What I said above is complete b0ll0cks The ECO symbol illuminates in any drive mode. The leaf / tree thing only appears in ECO drive mode and it's always white - I thought it turned green when 2 cyl was activated. And just to confuse matters further , when the leaf first appears, a second ECO icon makes itself known. I've only been driving this car for 3 years...

All in One Policy vs Actual Practice at the garage?
I'm looking at the plan on offer right now and contrary to what Apprentice said back in August, it clearly states that 2yr Roadside Assistance ( worth £198 ) and spark plugs + Air Filter ( worth £175 ) are included? All for £26.25 a month or £630 which is the same as the SEAT offer mentioned by Surreyjohn? Seems a good deal to me. You'd be struggling to get that lot cheaper from 3rd parties.
