Another tip, make sure you have auto-hold on. That way when you stop, the brakes stay on and the clutches are disengaged. As soon as you touch the throttle to move away the clutches will engage and the brakes release instantly. Don't use the handbrake unless in neutral or park. With auto- hold on, the handbrake will come on automatically when you select park anyway.

Keep your left foot well away from the brake pedal! It surprising how quickly you stop when your left foot tries to operate the clutch and hits the brake pedal😀

why? Use auto-hold! The brakes will be on and the clutches disengaged.

Depends where it is on the screen. There's more allowance on the passenger side. Usually they ask you to upload photos of the chip and location and they'll tell you whether it is repairable

Get Autoglass ( or whoever your ins co work with ) to check whether it can be repaired , before it gets any worse. Usually only costs £10 or so for a chip repair and doesnt affect any no-claims

In that case , maybe its the later motion-sensing KESSY keys which came in around 2020 IIRC that are fitted with the CR2032

Depends whether they're KESSY keys or not. I believe the earlier non-KESSY ones used a CR2025 but later KESSY used CR2032. Mine is a 2021 KESSY and definitely had a CR2032 from new.

2.0 TSI is 4WD whereas 1.5 is 2WD

TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?
RDS-TMC is not free in the UK. The supplier of the maps needs to have included (and paid for) a TMC licence. I remember a problem with a map update on the Ford sync system where Ford hadnt bothered to renew the licence and TMC stopped working if the maps were updated

Wiper blades
The drivers side is 650mm (26") , the passenger side 450mm (18"). Just get the Bosch twin pack A864S https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-A864S-Aerotwin-Wiperblade-Set/dp/B00W1KKYUI and have done with it!. I tolerated the original wiper blades on my car for a whole two weeks of juddering before replacing with the Bosch ones...

ISTR there was a fire risk issue on some engine variant so they stopped fitting covers. AFAIK that wasn't the1.5 but I suspect they decided they could cut costs by not fitting covers to all engines!

I have a Xiaomi note 10 5g and that works fine for calls albeit I have a MIB3 Amunsen system. You do have to disable lock on the phone as Xiaomi don't support trusted Bluetooth unlocking

Problem with selecting Driving Modes, other than Normal.
On the MY21 cars they now coast in Normal as well as Eco. So one must assume that, at least in the WLTP test scenario, it does improve consumption. Otherwise they (VAG) would not have made the change

Interesting that the tool description states 'reduces the time and finincial expenditure of the repair' <sarcasm>So why are the dealers claiming there's more work ? </sarcasm> @Crasherthanks for the reply, hopefully you'll have the tool by the time mine needs replacing😀

So @Crasher do you guys have the ability/equipment to replace the cambelt on the 1.5tsi ACT engine ? OR more importantly, whats the likelyhood of you having it in 3 yrs or so when mine becomes due ? You're only just up the road from me...

Seems from anecdotal evidence as though VAG have fitted an improved cambelt to these engines which in theory has an extended lifetime. They therefore decided that there was no need for a simple cambelt change mechanism as it is no longer a periodic requirement. There's obviously still a potential need for a cambelt to be removed and changed when other work may be required on the engine. In the factory, when they build engines, they set the cambelt timing electronically so decided that a similar system could be used for the 'once in a blue moon' case where it needed to be done in the dealer network. Of course, the test kit to do this is expensive, its not a problem in manufacturing, they're doing hundreds of engines and its economic. Of course, the franchised dealers are now forced/obliged to have this expensive kit which, in theory, is hardly ever used. The dealers dont like this, so decide (with the manufacturer approval in some regions?) to continue to advise that cambelt changes are necessary and thus make a suitable return on their investment in the test kit. or am I just getting sceptical in my old age😀

Why make a process so complicated when with a little thought they could have made it impossible! Looks like they've made it difficult to lock the camshafts and therefore it needs electronically checking and adjusting when the belt has been replaced

as if they would 🙂 I just think they are using the fact that it has ACT technology to attempt to rip off the customer for what is in effect no different to a normal cambelt change.

I'll buy the possible extra stress requiring the change but I don't understand any extra labour. It's still just a DOHC engine as far as the cambelt change. You just need to lock both camshafts and crank in position and change the belt and tensioner. I think the theory is that, when trying to maintain a constant speed. on level or slightly downhill, the car decerates much slower with the clutches disengaged. So the small amount of fuel used in idle is less than would be used by constant throttle on off. That's the theory anyway...

I believe MY21 DSG vehicles onwards 'coast' in NORMAL mode as well. Mine certainly does...
