  1. If the yellow battery lamp comes on with ignition on but no engine running is it not just to warn you that you have the ignition on but no engine running. If it comes on whilst running it would be to warn of a charging problem. What circumstances require the ignition to be on without running the engine. The infotainment should work if you switch it on without the ignition on. 1st click for accessories but no ignition on, after a while a battery message may come on. 2nd click ignition on dashboard lamp cycle to check they work but go off. Left in this position battery lamp to warn ignition on battery being drained unnecessarily. 3rd position operates starter motor Everything I drive warns of ignition in position 2 but no engine started in some way. With vehicles that i have driven with a start button . Pressing start puts ignition on. Applying brake at the same time operates the starter. so Pushing button alone is position 2.
  2. Ordered in August and received first week of October , It suggests it was here already. Especially if she couldn't pick the interior she wanted.
  3. Did you keep buying a smaller engine version i am sure the diesels got heavier?
  4. An answer from AI "In a MK3 Skoda Octavia, your dials go darker when outside light decreases because of the automatic dimming system controlled by a light sensor . The car is programmed to automatically adjust the brightness of the dashboard and infotainment displays to optimize visibility and reduce glare at night." "How the system works Sensing the light: Your car's light sensor, located near the rear view mirror, continuously measures the amount of ambient light. Activating night mode: When the sensor detects that it is dark enough outside, the system assumes it is nighttime and automatically switches the instrument cluster and infotainment screen to a dimmer, less distracting setting. This is a safety feature that prevents the bright lights from distracting or blinding the driver. Adjusting for bright light: Conversely, when the sensor detects bright sunlight, it increases the illumination of the dials so that they are still visible and readable in direct glare. " So in a tunnel turn your lights on.
  5. The article appears to be geared towards people favouring VED by weight ahead of the budget in November. Get the public on-board by saying it's for those nasty heavy cars like Range rovers and evs over 2400kg. So the majority still in ICE will think it's a good idea. What's missing is the details that the 2400kg is to allow Evs to be upto that weight in the future when higher VED could be introduced on vehicles above 2000kg with evs having the extra allowance upto 2400kg. They write what they think you want to hear and ignore what is probably actually being discussed in the Government think tanks. It's to gauge public opinion. A system will have to replace the previous emissions based taxation. At the moment emissions fees are taken equivalent to a few years in advance at registration then all cars the same from year two. This will become unsustainable as more evs are chosen Sometimes in an article you need to look at what is not said. Or implications of what is.
  6. Standards of journalism went down the pan a long while ago. It's all about agenda now, articles are spun to match the target reader demographic.
  7. Do you mean when your light are off in the dark the dashboard is dark? The mk3 does not have backlights for the dashboard when the lights are off
  8. Irrelevant, it doesn't change the gvw weight from 2268kg
  9. But the GVW includes load capacity the amount of available cargo and luggage load capacity is 650 lbs. (1400-750 (5 × 150) = 650 lbs.)
  10. Halfords have at least half a dozen for different pipe fittings , it may be a question of trial and error. The website just says "may" not fit the Octavia. Or email the fuel cap company https://www.petrolcaps.co.uk/1838/skoda-octavia-may-2013-onwards-fuel-cap
  11. @VanhireBoys The car is a keeper. it looked after you in France so you need to look after it forever ❣️
  12. Have you looked at Available immediately from skoda itself? https://cc.skoda-auto.com/gbr/en-GB/summary-scenic?activePage=summary&color=I3I3&configurationId=CHG8W8MZ&extraEquipments=GWAEWAE%7CMAHV1M6&id=GBR%3Bskoda%3B2026%3BPYLUR4%3B0%3BGYONYON%3Bmda20251016163152%3Ben-GB%3B%3B62002%3B62242&interior=ZH&modifiedPages=trimlines%7Cextraequipments&snapshotVersion=8560c88d-0410-42af-9a46-4bcf1814cdfc&trimline=PYU%7CvRS6224262002&visitedPages=trimlines%7Ccolors%7Cwheels%7Cinteriors%7Cextraequipments%7Cservices

  14. Comparing to a diesel taxi 300 mile a day scenario To be less biased towards the EV call it 77kwh used (less than 4m/kwh) 42kwh from standard price £11.76 (28p/kwh) 35kwh from off peak price £02.45 (7p/kwh) £14.21 (129mpg) 2.32 gallons of diesel My 2litre diesel Mondeo did 34mpg round town used as a Private hire vehicle
  15. Based on £6.11 a gallon diesel 138 miles = 4.4p per mile @ 4m/kwh achieved if average price per kwh is 17.6p Actually a modest claim some would claim over 300 miles @2p, my average is 103 miles per equivalent gallon price
  16. If you drive a good way at 120km/h either side of your 2-4km drives in the City a Diesel will be fine. But if if you are going to compromise and go for five seats and have a driveway i would buy an Enyaq 85
  17. Skoda Bi-directional charging
  18. "The vote, taking place today (Thursday 16 October) at Cardiff City Council, could see the Welsh capital be the first city in the UK to introduce a parking surcharge for vehicles over a specified weight limit. In this instance, cars weighing over 2,400kg will be subject to the as-of-yet unspecified additional charge – a threshold that will be reduced to 2,000kg for non-electric cars over time. Vehicles weighing more than 3,500kg won’t be allowed a permit at all" Councils looking for ways to raise money due to Government cuts?
  19. Strange thought, Assuming you have recently bought it. Is it labelled clockwise from left to right fold/L/off/R/heat? If so and it won't turn beyond R. See if it will go beyond Fold.if there is no fold, will it turn beyond L If they fold when you do it's just the knob in the wrong place?
  20. Rules like that only work with adequate enforcement. I would imagine criminals exist in all sides of the process. Extra regulation increases the crimes committed and chargeable when caught.
  21. Maybe they would think twice about a 400v cable if it was also live?
  22. My EFAL scheme would have no limit on money put in a Pension scheme above the money declared under EFAL, because the money would pay tax under the EFAL rules in the future. People would pay taxes in line with the money used "living"
  23. I don't blame people for using the system, I just don't like them falling for it and being used in this way. In 1979 we had a tax rate of 60% and had even higher leading up to that. The rate was reduced and subsequent governments have maintained it by selling off all that the higher taxes had accrued. Gold, Industries etc all sold down the river to reduce taxation. For the benefit of who really?
  24. If you receive a state pension and are below £35k you should get another letter by end November https://www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment
