  1. Zdravey! Well, we are almost neighbors and same choice of ride 😜 What Stage 1 options are you evaluating, remap or additional module? Me I am going for a module, starting to research, planning to do it around summer's end ...
  2. As said above, get the Matrix lights, the VC is great, much more than I ever expected! I was fixed on a few things things, from experience most of them not easy to retrofit: the hitch (if you tow, I do), yeah you can fit aftermarket but the OE is "the" hitch, the sunroof - I love a hole on the ceiling, yeah it requires a bit more maintenance but so what, I've had cars with sunroofs all my life of motoring (~25years so far) and except the one in the Range Rover (go figure 😝)none has given me any headache, the vario floor, extremely practical and costly to retrofit, and obviously leather (but not for you) and not Sportline, which meant not easy to find .... For other tricky things to retrofit, go see Aperture's topic here, which gives you an idea of how is to retrofit things, and you can choose if go that way or wait for a car specced as you want .... amazing read, sit down and take a tea to relax before the plunge ðŸĪŠ
  3. I've had this occasionally happening to some of my other cars, not yet to the Superb. Never understood why it does it. But, since by definition I seldom refill an empty tank (leftovers of my motorcycle years), I just close the cap, move away and refill elsewhere. Usually, after a day or two it works and I refill without problems. I have no idea what makes it.
  4. It seems Quartz Grey is the most chosen color 😁
  5. I got to do it, to replace the top ornament trim, but cannot find the time ... 😔
  6. Go down the page on this topic and it seems to show exactly how to do this replacement:
  7. Those rims are among the ugliest ever designed for this model, in my opinion. Being looks, is a subjective matter. When I was selecting options, I knew if my chosen car had that design, it would be something to change right away ðŸĪŠ
  8. I am sure at some time, some talented fella recommended a saving of xxx vs. a potential "air flow disturbance" and the board chose to save some pennies. And they all were happy, except whoever pays, that is the customer, of course. As for the pedal feel, I'd rather try fist a piggyback engine Stage I and then see how it moves. I was thinking to let pass a few more thousand k's to get a feel of the car "original", and then go spending in hooligan mode .... Torn between Racechip and DTE (DTUK for you guys in the Island), but I need to start reading dedicated literature on the subject ... Honestly, the 19s are very fine for smooth roads ... like the ones in upper/western Europe. Get to southern and eastern latitudes and ride becomes choppy and harsh, not only for a Superb, but for most vehicles. Here very large rims are only for true fans, maniacs or people with look/attitude deficiencies ðŸĪŠ Last not I forgot to mention: return journey from Italy I made +38MPG over 1500km with lawful driving. Sign that IS possible to have both power and economy 😆
  9. I recommend to drill, otherwise it will not fit tight to the mudguard. Is only plastic, no fear 😝
  10. Interesting question, will look under and report. I am also not so-so with the 19s, I think they look great but ride feels "hard". The wooden feeling in the pedal, I noticed if I set the car in 'Sport' driving mode, the response is fairly adequate. Obviously as MartiniB mentioned it sticks too much to the gears, so I manually "help" to get into a higher gear. When the road gets bad and the ride suffers, I go into "Comfort" and put the DSG into Sport. Doing like this, during the last thousand or so km I've noticed the lack of pedal feedback is less traumatic....
  11. Thanks! Mine also seems out of it. Still, next month when I have oil change will ask to check ...
  12. Very little time lately, so just little things. My ride came with the 'metal pedals' but no footrest, and I could not help the bling ðŸĪŠ Install is a simple job, but I could not get the plastic retainer for the lever to open the bonnet to get back to its place. Nevertheless, the lever stays in its place and does its job ....
  13. Use the search function is a topic beaten to death. There are existing alternatives for almost every size 😉
  14. Choice of all-seasons or dedicated season tires depends on many factors, only you know what your winter and driving conditions are ...
  15. Can't comment, I never had good experiences with Contis, or Bridgetones for that matter.
  16. I have a few friends and acquaintances in the transport community, and this same question I did ask all of them in one moment or another. From a time at work/to work perspective, since their vehicles are limited by speed control, but they also have a driving time limit after which they need to forcefully stop and "rest", each mile journey is precious, counterbalanced by fuel consumption of course. So, begin able to overtake and move ahead a good stretch before time to "rest" comes, is important. Sometimes these people are journeying for several hundred, when not thousand of miles. And rest intervals are dictated by time, not mileage. Let also consider that this can mean to "make it or break it" at fixed points, ferries, borders, and the like. When a few min can make the difference to missing a ferry, or hitting the border control in "break" (why they need to break while at work is a mystery), or even get to a pleasant stop instead of a dreadful parking stop in the middle of nowhere. Moreover, there are differences in the vehicles themselves, while they all look alike, mechanically some can be better than others, and drivers exploit these advantages. A friend was telling me when he replaced the tires on his tractor, he chose a slightly rolling diameters meant he could "trick" the tachograph by doing couple mph more than was the instrument would be recording, and this was an advantage that could enable to overtake more "colleagues". And finally sometimes they get tired, and simply swap leads when in convoy, even if keeping same speed. Now true this "bothers" other drivers, and several of these guys really don't give a d@mn, but on the other hand we "car" users are far worse on our behavior on the road. We often forget these behemoth need large spaces for braking and their handling does not allow for fast reactions like a car would. Is a matter if finesse and respect on the road, which seldom appears. I just came back from 1500km on SE Europe highways, and I saw in proportion much more dis-respect from 4-wheelers than from 18-wheelers. Sometimes is a matter of simple dynamics of travel, let me give you two examples which I went thru, among many: I am on a long stretch of road doing the speed limit, I come upon a convoy of two 18-wheelers, the follower noticeably faster and edging closer to the lead, thus getting ready to overtake. This will not hinder my progression, as I am fairly far and my speed differential allows for this to take place safely, but what to do? This is where the complex combination of skill, experience, know-how of the road and vehicles, and respect come to play. One time the follow truck waited for me, so I raise my speed a few kph to bridge the gap faster, pass, and then he started overtaking. I thanked and he replied in return. On another occasion, I flashed (once!) to warn and dropped a few kph to increase the speed gap, to which he started the overtaking and I barely got closer enough "to be bothered" ... moves to the right and I keep on. He thanks me and I reply in return. Obviously is not always that nice, there are horrible places where traffic is hellish, is a dog eat dog scenario, but then this is not really the fault of the road users, but those who plan, build, and maintain that infrastructure, and get paid for its use as well! I have great respect and admiration for the drivers of LGV/HGV and other heavy haulers. They live an awful life in horrific conditions, bad food, poor rest, miserable work conditions, tight/impossible deadlines, decadent infrastructure, mean border patrols, a lot of very stupid road users, and all this to make sure we get on our tables, wardrobes, and houses and lot of stuff we surely don't really need, but want to have. It is a vicious circle, we need them to have our junk, so we have to deal with them on the road ... It is a fascinating aspect of the "modern" mobility of mankind 🙂
  17. Whenever that song (or artist) is mentioned, it is fixed on my mind the great view of Tango's sister playing to that track ðŸĨ°
  18. Well, the decision was made to go Swedish, but if the question still lingers, an easy way to ID is that all pre-FL are double injection (direct and port) and 6-speed, and valve in the exhaust. From FL all engines are single injection (only direct), and 7-speed. Some early FL had the exhaust valve, maybe only 6 months or so. I debated long and hard on the subject, but at the end the added usability of the 7 speed made the choice for me. 2.5k RPM is 140km/h, 3k RPM is 170 km/h ... is like you could do it all day. The (non-indifferent) drawback of the single injection is the need to look into doing some decarbon and intake clean and engine work at some point, earlier than the double-injected engine. But this is a one every tot miles job .... the usage is every day. I still like the pre-FL looks, car looks more proportionate, FL became very 'edgy' with the slimmer lights and those awful fogs, but this is personal opinion ....
  19. Agree on all points. Talking about regen braking, I often happen to use some hybrid or another, and I do wish I had some of that trickery on the 280 ... oh well, it will be for the next time, in many years or so 😁
  20. On the return leg of my last trip (1500km), I've used Sport most of the time, thus with no coasting. I've noticed the "live" fuel indicator (which I suspect is displaying/mirroring throttle body position) would go to 0 when downhill using the cut-off (no brakes, no gas), whereas when done in 'Eco' with coasting would read 0.5/0.7 L/100km, which is more or less fuel consumption at idle. So unless some other VAG-trick is at play, from a fuel consumption economy point of view, would make more sense to decelerate using engine cut-off than not disengaging transmission and "coast". Not that I have seen any magical reduction of consumption anyway, so we are splitting hairs here 😝
  21. You are the man, once again! On my way back on the last long journey I played long with this you are right, the TSI does keep it a bit more than necessary. I actually left it in 'S' most of the time, but short-shift sometimes when I feel is keeping a gear for too long, using the paddle to get to the desired gear and then leave it to resume auto.
  22. (Disclaimer: no intention to throw this into politics, which I think are a no-no in this forum, so take this lightly and laugh it over*) Oh no "mate", that is not how it works! You DID get it wrong! 😄 Once you bought a ticket into this sinking ship (or derailing train, which you prefer), there is no "getting out easily". Yeah sure, you guys got yourselves "free" from the ballroom, where we all "continentals" keep dancing and singing while the orchestra plays (like in the Titanic), so actually you are now "free" to roam the outer realms of the sinking ship, but .... but ... out there the icy waters and the sharks (yeah, even at these latitudes) wait happily your demise 😎 Would continue this allegory, but I think this sufficient 😟 "You can check out anytime you like But you can never leave" * there is nothing to laugh about, but this is all we got left with ... 🙄
  23. In a nutshell, yes, (unfortunately) this is where we are heading. Same as we 'downsized' engines and other means of transport (think Concorde), same as we lost services without paying lesser fees - think what it was air travel, for one, or the "self-paying cash registers" at supermarkets, same as now you get 80g of a product for the same price before you were getting 100g, and so on. The question is not inevitability, but the timeline and how these things come to fruition. They say if you throw a frog in boiling water you will scald it and will run away, but warm slowly the same water and it will get used to it until ... I do not know, but it has been going on since years so I guess we are all "getting used to it". And no, I do not think this marks the end of hi-performance vehicles, these will continue to be proposed and sold, but the combination of even more restrictive conditions will be the mechanism: speed limits and speed cameras, increased fines, tracking and reporting of driving conditions, and so on. All in the name of safety, to which I hold up a BS sign.
  24. Man, there are a loooot of boot accessories available, probably way more than other manufacturers. Search proper in places that sell Skoda accessories (kopacek to name one, or skoda-parts.com that I am very satisfied with), their prices are not so high compared to the generic "bricolage" or supermarket shops, so it pays to get original stuff that fits perfectly. You got: - nets to put in the backrests, in the top of the boot, and on the sides - the L-shaped plastic dividers mentioned above - there are rails with large alu full-whidth dividers for large separation for vehicles with vario floor - there is a plastic protector for vehicles without vario floor that comes with an alu full-width divider as well - foldable boxes with Skoda logo, textil, not super heavy duty but sufficient for most stuff - a "hanging" vinyl like a hammock you mention, attaches to the top curtain Lots of choices for any kind of cargo management 🙃
  25. Yeah, I see better now ... is the entire car that is spotless, compliments! 😜
