  1. NO, the cheap silicone sprays etc are NOT the same compound. They basically give a nice shiny finish, but that is it. The VW , or OEM equivalent, is very different and acts in a different way. The price isn't a 'hike', just for the sake of it You are basically comparing cheap 3 in 1 oil to premium synthetic motor oil. Both lubricate, but try running your engine on 3 in 1, it will run for a bit, but with particularly unpleasant circumstances and significantly reduced life expectancy...
  2. Had Renault 's,worked on others's Renaults... never ever again with a bargepole, I'm afraid. Truly awful electronics, that's cabin and engine, every maintenance task took 10x longer than expected, wheel removal to do an oil change (seriously!!). Hopefully they have improved a bit...
  3. Always run Bridgestone all seasons on our other cars, with have been beyond outstanding in grip, ride, wear durability etc. However, looking at General Grabber AS for this winter to replace ny factory 225/45/19 ones on muy 2.0l petrol 4x4, as looking at the reviews they excel well past the premiums on offer in versatility and wear. Wear isn't really that important to me, even as a business driver, that is vastly superceded by safety and grip.
  4. I'd challenge it as being 'major', considering it took about 5 seconds to install! I work in IT, and I certainly wouldn't categorise it as a 'major' release!
  5. It does warn about setting changes, had absolutely no issues with it, just needs a few settings tweaks afterwards. The sky is always falling in, especially on FB , being the very worst echo chamber of the painfully uninformed 🤦
  6. Unfortunately, I can't see you having a leg to stand on with this against any third party. Yes, it has a service interval far in excess of the mileage, but it is considered a consumable part. Engines have no replacement interval on pistons, bearings, crank etc, they are 'until scrapped ', but if they fail (and they do) outside of warranty, it's a repair and no marching back to manufacturer is going to have any success. That's why its worth observing a service interval well inside the recommended interval, and warranties can prove well worth the outlay, unless you have some mechanical ability and a financial reserve for the worst scenario (basically self insurance).
  7. This is a common query on multiple forums. No human is ever going to 'outso' the calculation obtained from the vehicle management system that is controlling fuelling. Modern engines engines require such high precision accuracy at the injector, that the stated volume of fluid delivered is the volume delivered, not what is 'brim to brim'. Besides human inaccuracies, the absolute impossibility of dry tank to dry tank, and allowed variation in pump delivery per cycle, the accuracy of that method isn't within a million miles of the fuelling system. However, it's quite a testament that so many got so close! 🤣
  8. Engineering solution...hit it with a bloody big hammer..😂
  9. I would presume this would be a custom unit due to the circuit board supplying the DLR ?? Wouldn't like to think of the price, if available.
  10. You don't have to buy VW branded, but you do need to buy the genuine product they use (without the VW sticker). As for silicon, it gives a nice shine, but it really isn't the same stuff! It's ultimately up to you, and if the tiny tiny saving, offsets the cost of repair/replacement and damage to the interior of the car, not to mention potential corrosion points 🤷
  11. Only the AC, Auto and Sync lights come on mine, unless manually selected. Possibly it's a fuse issue?
  12. Funny connection is mentioned, obviously there has been a server issue. I lost sync, and all network connectivity last week, raised with Skoda tech, who did the standard ' factory reset ', which failed and utterly screwed up the infotainment (hell, why would they log issues and assign a problem, that would be too ITIL). Anyway, came back online and synced yesterday, after being down for about 4 days or so.
  13. 75 heated screen here, and absolutely has fine wires in mine.
  14. Yep, button present on my 75 4x4 2.0 Sportline
  15. Yes, leave well alone, manufacturers don't just "leave' legacy tech slots in new vehicles at the design stage.. (We'd have 8 track, cassette and push button radio, manual choke, manual washer pump, slots all over the dash 😂)
  16. I'd argue that excess is very low, with a low premium The premium alone wouldn't cover half a day's labour. If you consider gearboxes, drivtrain, engine, you are looking to a grand or two, probably plus, parts and labour... If you look at car electronics, possibly a wiring harness replace, radar if fitted (over a grand) etc, it's a steal I know the Karoqs (petrol) have a good reliability record, vit it depends upon what kind of savings reserve you have if it goes 'bang', and your level of mechanical competence to replace failed items. I have over 40 yrs taking things apart, engine tuning/building, repairing brakes, clutch, suspension etc, and I'll be taking out the extended warranty when it's time, it's so much hassle and backache to do anything above servicing on modern cars.
  17. No issue here, only turns the engine off when stationary and brake hold has activated. I may be wrong, but it does sound like a software issue, and a missing conditional argument in the code. Did it change after a dealer update? If not, I'd speak to the dealership as it is a change in expected behaviour. They may just say it's a known issue (pretty poor if so).
  18. Obviously make sure there's absolutely no way it could ever foul the pedals, or could be MOT issues, but great solution 😁
  19. Generally these are 'all show and no go', or an old classic 'Peco, does not performance make'...
  20. No, but it looks like possibly background blur due to foreground message/notification (but obviously without it)? I can't recall if mine does background blur, but I'd take it in for investigation.
  21. Absolutely, unfortunately it sounds like a vehicle that has probably been mistreated, or used for a great deal of towing
  22. Absolutely, the 'additive' market is as profitable as the vitamin supplement market. Both unnecessary, and promoted purely by the manufacturers, creating a need where none exists,to sell the solution.
  23. Just top up with Adblue, I wouldn't bother adding the 'Snakeoil', unless it makes you feel better 🙂
  24. There are leathercare products available, and I've used them in the past. But to be honest, a simple interior trim spray was cheaper, easier and far superior.
