  1. Awesome mate thanks :-) Is it clear where the source of the wet comes from - presume its just down the window seal and can't be prevented?
  2. Righty! Few of you may remember me rollocking on about the fact my drivers door central locking was failing to work properly. I had this from a vag com diag..... VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US Control Module Part Number: 1C0 959 799 B Component and/or Version: 3Y Komfortgerát HLO 0004 Software Coding: 00259 Work Shop Code: WSC 73430 Additional Info: 1U6959802D 3Y Tõrsteuer.FS KLO 0202 Additional Info: 1U6959801D 3Y Tõrsteuer.BF KLO 0202 Additional Info: 1U0959811D 3Y Tõrsteuer.HL KLO 0202 Additional Info: 1U0959812D 3Y Tõrsteuer.HR KLO 0202 2 Faults Found: 00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking: Front Driver Side (F220) 27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 00943 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent Well I had the car in for a bit of a service today and asked for the dealer to take a look, I know people that work there so i understand the truth was being told. Basically they'd diagnosed it as water getting in over time and the wireing loom and window motor to go funny.... which confused me as all of the windows along with everything else OTHER than the central locking on the drivers side is working fine. When asked how much i was looking at for a new loom along with window motor module i'd be looking at 300-400 quid parts and labour. Now the window motor module confuses me a little from the point of view that they all work fine at the moment! Before shelling out i think i'm definetly going to have a look at cleaning up the loom contacts.... its just what if anything has to be replaced. I'm a tad naffed off at the manufacture to be honest - the car is just under 3 and a half years old so wouldn't expect something like this to happen! :thumbdwn: Has anyone repaired this before? Surely even if i do shell out the same thing will happen in a year or two again when the water causes the same issue too!!!
  3. As per the title really is it necessary to change the oil when a new cambelt is put into place? Need to put mine in the garage to have the cambelt done, its already had a service 4k ago though - i've put the car on fixed servicing now too so didn't want them putting in different oil afterwards / during to top up or whatever. Other than the cambelt and waterpump is it worth getting the auxilary belt done too at the same time? What price are you looking at at a steallers?
  4. Nope it should be 180bhp - i didn't realise they did a saloon, the hatchbacks may as well be though with the size of the boot
  5. Thanks for that bowders, based on what you've said it'd make more sense to be for it to be the exterior cable as i forgot to mention the handle sometimes gets stuck up an upward out position..... lets hope for good whether tomorrow! edit - is it easy enough to lay a new cable then or is it worth just taking it the garage?
  6. Nope definetly a fault i've cleared it then re-created the issue a few times right away. Basically the drivers door doesn't open off the central locking remote all other doors do without issue, the same goes for when you're actually sat in the car pressing the lock unlock button, the drivers door lock just doesn't move which is of course the most annoying from my point of view!!! The dash light to say the door is open comes on as does the interior light, not 100% sure about the "lights are on" buzz but will have to check this again - i recalled it working the last time i tried though. Bit stumped because my issue seems different to all of the others i've looked at so far. The only thing that i do remember happening is when we had that really really bad bout of ice a few months back. There was a very loud twang/ping after i'd been driving for about 2 mins that came from the drivers side door, thats when the problem started and its just got gradually worse from there on in.
  7. Hmmm that's what is weird the door panel light is working fine when i open the door.
  8. Been bad and have been going through the car cash recently mainly because of a lack of a pressure washer..... really wanting to wash my car today but a bit put off by trying to rinse the surface dirt off by hand first! So I need pressure washer recommendations! Edit - Doh ... just realized there is no tap outside either, the kitchen taps in the house don't look as if they'll be able to take a hose either.
  9. I took mine off variable service when i did a fixed change about 5k ago, up until then it had castrol edge in it and it seemed to use a fair amount of it - i went through a liter topping up in about 6-7k. I put bog standard castrol magnatec in and have done another 5k - its not used a drop. Is it normal for the longer life stuff to be used more quickly?
  10. Do you have to take the whole door card out to fit an electric/heated wing mirror unit on the vrs, or can you get away with just the tweeter cover?
  11. Would this be a potential fix for 00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking: Front Driver Side (F220) 27-00 - Implausible Signal?
  12. ... had a similar thing happen to me but couldn't turn around and go after them :( gutted. I'm sure I've seen the question on here before i think someone mentioned that they're partly stuck with strong tape and clips at certain points..... could be totally wrong though, will have a search now.
  13. I saw one up near neston about 3 weeks back ... only the 2nd i've ever seen too.
  14. When you say it doesn't go back in neutral do you find it can sometimes stick in between neutral and try and pop back in gear? I've had that a couple of times but put it down to my dodgy gear shifts first thing in the morning but i've had the 'first gear' issue a couple of times too - was told that was the linkage.
  15. I've got some gear to go over with at the weekend so i'll have to have a mess then - will let you know.
  16. I did indeed and the result was the same fault. Going to buy a new cable and hope its that could be £15 down the drain mind!
  17. Have an old jvc cassette / cd changer setup in my girlfriends escort. Its been a cracking player for years until she went over a bump on Friday....... now I'm just really confused. The right hand channel both front and rear are very distorted and only half audible, the left is perfect. This only applies when playing CDs from the unit in the boot, when playing music through the radio or cassette unit all is fine and dandy. I swapped out the whole unit and put the ford one back in to check that all of the speakers were deffinetly working and rule any further issues with the wireing, everything was fine! .... thing is this is making me wonder what the problem is! I think i've pretty much worked back to it either being the cd player in the boot, the cable that runs between the two or the head unit itself. Any ideas? If the headunit was at fault i would expect the same fault to appear on the radio and cassette audio but this is fine - will the cd audio take an alternative circuit route through to the speakers which could be the problem? If not do you think its worth replacing the cable first?
  18. Just managed to run mine via the vag com and have the following.... VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US Control Module Part Number: 1C0 959 799 B Component and/or Version: 3Y Komfortgerát HLO 0004 Software Coding: 00259 Work Shop Code: WSC 73430 Additional Info: 1U6959802D 3Y Tõrsteuer.FS KLO 0202 Additional Info: 1U6959801D 3Y Tõrsteuer.BF KLO 0202 Additional Info: 1U0959811D 3Y Tõrsteuer.HL KLO 0202 Additional Info: 1U0959812D 3Y Tõrsteuer.HR KLO 0202 2 Faults Found: 00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking: Front Driver Side (F220) 27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 00943 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent .... i was thinking it was a mechanical fault but now it does look like electrics :(
  19. Just looking at one of my panels in the light today and noticed a load of circular scratches across it and the rest of the car - it looks like its been caused by cleaning at one point or another. They're not deep scratches and aren't noticeable until you're really close up but I'm starting to wonder if the gloss has been scratched over time with cleaning or if its just due for a good polish? It's like the glittery metallic layer has been damaged. With the harsh winter we've had so far and with these little differences starting to show I'm thinking of getting a decent polishing job done on it for spring and summer, no idea where and no idea exactly what i should be looking for though...
  20. if you take the door card off again and you get a chance could you take a couple of snaps jonnycatbiscuit. Still got my same issue just with the drivers door but its completely gone now which I'm not too happy about!!! Feels like more of a mechanical thing to me with the way its work then not working etc How long has yours been like this? I've been putting it down to weather being so naff - one of my family has had issue with their Renault and the rear window opening and shutting when it wants!!!
  21. Mine generally does it all of the time at the moment anywhere between below freezing to 4.5C. Its not been warm enough to check thoroughly though. Dumb question but wouldn't the vRS produce more with it being a higher emissions car next to a small Ka on the road?
  22. Know the weather has only got worse but have you bothered looking at yours yet? One thing i have noticed is that the drivers side door handle feels a little weird too - seems to pull up and out and get caught going back in, thinking it could be related.
  23. Looking at your handy photos i believe you cheers saved me a load of work! "2. Remove the left hand wiper arm as described in chapter 12, then ease of the rubber seal and unclip the plenum chamber cover"..... weird.
