  1. Slightly off topic, do you find that the ride quality & tyre noise is also better?
  2. My 1st mod was to fit soundproofing in boot & rear seat area to make the car more bearable at motorway speeds. This is the one area where Skoda have made obvious cost-cutting, compared to VW/Audi etc.
  3. I googled ''Anyone know what the typical cost of the Haldex service/oil change is?'' The second result, from an independent:- Haldex Oil Change - £43.71 Haldex Oil and Filter Change - £74.66 Both prices are quoted using genuine VAG parts. Call Skoda & ask, then go to indi if vastly different!
  4. Update: I sent a polite Email to SUK requesting that my case was re-evaluated due to my concern. The next day my local dealer called me to book me in for the free of charge injector & loom change. Good service Skoda (Im sure some other brands would not be so forthcoming), a good way to retain customer loyalty.
  5. I raised a case with Skoda Uk for my July 2008 Vrs PD. They booked the car in to my local dealer for a 'check'. The check obviously came back clear, roadtest was OK & the computer showed no faults. The dealer stated that that was the end of it, no further action to take. Should I accept that, or should I whinge Skoda Uk into submission?! Sounds like action is not taken as a matter of course.
  6. Octavia Vrs is a bit misleading. Vrs body with the rest changed for high performance parts. You could have styck those parts in an Austin Allegro & done the same speed! Not knocking the Vrs but its hardly a perfirmance car, just a mildly powerful hack that is cheaper than the rest.
  7. I'd say get a Webutanycar valuation then add £1000. I have achieved that with last couple of cars, - advertising costs & aggro from chancers & assorted scum of course!
  8. On my estate I run a 5m cable from the 'boot' socket & its poked behind door kick trim etc, pops out in the corner by the drivers screen pillar. Invisible!. Cable just a few pounds from Maplins...
  9. Mine did that. I fixed it be removing the courtesy light next to it, couple if torx screws I recall. That gave access to the void behind the glasses holder. I then packed out behind the glasses area with some old (clean!) socks. The whole area around it is now firmer when pressed & not as flimsy feeling. The creaks & groans dissppeared.
  10. Sorry i do not know the cost as mine was a warranty job. I guess it may have been covered here in the past. Mine is estate & I'm sure they could get to it without removing roof lining, just removed the hard plastic edging by the rear hatch & enough space to do it. Took less thsn an hour including giving it a wash!
  11. Radio 5 is fine on mine. But about a year sgo my aerial amplified base went faulty & I lost AM stations only. That was replaced under warranty, the only time I used the warranty in the 1st 3 years!. Perhaps his has this fault?

  13. 2008 Vrs Estate. 100% reliable, basic with no electronic gadgets etc to break/date. Space to throw the bike in the back. Only negative is the distinct lack of soundproofing..
  14. I'm surprised how bad the Mpg is on the posts. Is the 1.4 too underpowered for a biggish car?. It sounds like the engine has to work too hard to make average progress. I guess Skoda fitted a Fabia engine into the Octavia & the slipper wearing test pilots achieve the published Mpg, but in real life you have to thrash the pants off it to keep up! Cant do much for longevity either...
  15. Pretty pointless IMHO, bolt those tuning parts on a Mini Metro & it will do 200mph !!!
  16. what a pointless stunt... waste of time/money/fuel.
  17. The price sounds really good but why do they need changing? if just corroded a few stops will clear it. Sounds like the garage is short if work!
  18. In reality what are the chances if the problem occuring?, only people who have a problem post on forum, not the 99% of owners who are happy! Also what is the ultimate aim?, free injectors for life or all cars to be recalled & fitted with uprated part?
  19. 2008 pd here, 30000 miles, 1 trip to dealer in 3 years (aerial amplifier!), no sign of any trouble...
  20. 1 in 10 Octavia Vrs are Estates. 1 in 20 think DSG is worth paying extra for. Maybe less than that on Estates, as they are usually chosen for workhorse benefits rather than toys. So DSG Estates are bound to be scarce! (I guessed the numbers!)
  21. I have just changed my Continentals for the Kumho KU31s too. Very quiet on the motorway & impressed so far. Just over £360 for 4 18'' Vrs tyres fully fitted, cant be bad!
  22. Just replaced my Continentals with Kumho Ecsta KU31's, the drop in noise on the motorway is remarkable. A far greater difference than the hours I have spent fitting sound deadening etc! The Continentals were noisy from when I got the car at 4000 miles. Just over £360 for the 4, fitted & balanced by the best tyre place in the South East IMHO, Bracknell Tyres (which is 2 minutes walk from where I work luckily!). Their fitted price is less than the cheapest mail order tyres only places...
  23. The old tyres were awful (sound like truck tyres!) from when I got the car with 4000 miles on the clock, to 20000 miles when I changed them. All 4 were worn evenly, so I am sure that the tracking/geometry will have been OK.
  24. After a bit of research I had Kumho Ecsta Sport KU31 fitted by my local tyre place, £90 each fitted for 225/40/18s. VERY impressed so far!. Ditching the Continentals for these has made an unbelieveable difference to the cabin noise. With the Continentals, there was a constant roar at motorway speeds, which dissapeared on the rare occason that I found a newly surfaced secton. Well the Kumho's are nearly that quiet all the time. Bliss. Skoda should fit queter tyres from the outset, makes a huge dfference!
