  1. Cheers for all the advice. I've seen some plain ebc discs that I guess are ok or shall i just call gsf as I'm sure they'll be cheaper. Have also seen some black diamond predator pads that seem to get good reviews. Any ideas?
  2. Hi. Could you put the web link or contact details for this sere as I'm in need of new discs and pads myself at the mo and would be very interested in how much they charge.
  3. Going to Scotland in a few wks. Good job I just have spiders. What did the local constabulary say? Any CCTV around that area?
  4. Hi all, Time has come to replace the discs and pads all round and im on a bit of a budget. I would like some performance orientated on the front (but nothing too silly) and not bothered about the rear as i know it makes little difference. I've been looking at these below on ebay and wonder what benefits/downsides there are to drilled vs grooved discs? I've only been looking at the set of matched rears as at the price advertised i'd be hard pushed to get some drilled front discs and pads and then something like a mintex rear brake box (roughly £70). So for this price i might just as well get the drilled/grooved rears too. Anyway any views/opinions/facts would be gratefully received. i know from searching that many have bought grooved from these guys at crn and are happy with them. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360354282290&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110611125574&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170565737115&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT cheers
  5. Right first things first. Where do I find this breather pipe that always fails. Took the engine cover off and the bit by the dipstick. But it's just pipes everywhere. Is it easy to get too and which other ones should I look out for. Where's the cts located too. Cheers in advance.
  6. Happened again today, 17707 17745 and 16514 ( i think, but it was bank 1 o2 sensor), was running a bit rough, reset it and light hasnt come on again. Whats this CTS (sorry if thats a thick Q). Gonna get under the bonnet tomorrow and check all the hoses before getting it to a garage.
  7. Police will generally keep there cars for either a designated number of miles or years so doubt its an ex police car, especially as it appears the first owner had it for just over a year. Seems a few too many owners for my liking, but im sure you'll give it a good check over.
  8. Cheers for the help guys. It did throw up the good ol 17705 and 17545 codes at the same time so i guess its out with the inspection lamp and look for someone with vagcom!
  9. Hi all, Does anyone know how many o2 sensors the mk1 vrs has, where they're located and how much they are to replace. My cars running like an asthmatic ant with heavy shopping and when ive fault code read it, i get o2 sensor malfunction bank 2 (or something like that as i erased the code!). Any ideas?
  10. Well you guys are great and the AA is rubbish. Garage (who know what they're talking about) called me and it's the fuse box on top of the battery.
  11. Hi mate, no alternator light. Just abs, traction and airbag all came on at the same time the stereo switched off. then a mile later all power cut out.
  12. Cheers guys. AA have diagnosed a knackered alternator. Came and replaced the battery and it started up fine. Then kindly followed me to the garage. Good job too as it went again 2 miles from it. A1 service from the AA. Anyone know of how much an alternator and fitting is. It's been left with the garage.
  13. Currently sat on the hard shoulder of the m62 Waiting for the AA having lost all power! All started with the traction abs and airback lights coming on. Then the stereo stopped working. Then just a complete loss of power! I'm guessing it's got something to do with the torrential rain I've been driving through bit has anyone had anything similar happen? Am I looking at an expensive bill?
  14. I did exactly the same last nov. Slight noise from the front nearside and no play in the wheel. Got the front bearing changed as apparently if it's slightly cracked or damaged it will cause the issues but no noticeable play. Anyway 96 quid later problem all solved.
  15. I think i have the same problem and thats where im hoping the oil im using is spilling onto....as it doesnt seem to be going anywhere else!
  16. Bloody hell v cheap wish i could find somewhere around bradford/leeds that was that cheap, id get mine done myself!
  17. I fitted these as an alternative to the alpines that most seem to fit. They're still slim fit, and direct replacement. The frequency response is a bit greater than the alpines on the bottom end too. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-ts-g171c.html Recommend them
  18. Will probably just be a rubber seal and if you go to skoda they will no doubt do a seal kit to fix the problem, shouldnt be too much and cheaper than buying a complete cylinder....if thats the problem of course!
  19. Am thinking of changing the above as they seem pretty cheap. But do they actually make a difference? Secondly is it a job that can be done by yourself, or does it require secialist tools, ramps etc?
  20. Cheers for that mate, will get some of the osrams ordered, a company on ebay is doing them for £12 posted. Might get some led sidelights whilst im at it and chrome indicator bulbs.
  21. Can someone confirm what bulb the main headlight and sidelight are on a mk1 vrs? Im guessing at h4 both hi/low beam and w5w for the sidelight?
  22. You cant be looking that hard, there are tons of pics on here of various vrs's! look on flickr and type in skoda octavia vrs Failing that pimp my skoda, rob has spent muchos time detailing all his mods in pics. Enjoy
  23. Another one for better miles to gallon using total excellium, avg around 340 on normal unleaded 390 to 400 on the good stuff. only costs about £3 extra each tank too. On a recent trip to cornwall i avg 44 down there, 28 whilst down there (they do have some awsome roads!!!) and 41 on the way back up.......but thats cos its all uphill back up the motorways right
  24. Had some falkens fitted just before xmas to all 4 corners, i love them. Perform really well in all kinds of weather and to be honest i didnt find them too bad in the snow. Got mine form camskill, spot on service and half the price you'd pay for contis. Cant comment on 205 vs 225 as kept the 205 width when i changed mine over.
  25. Im there as long as the surf is pants as im supposed to be away that weekend. Though saying that its at scarborough so i can pop in on the way back via the back roads!
