  1. Always used miles per gallon for the 44 years I've owned a car - which works out at miles per litre multiplied by 4.54609 To me litres per 100km is more difficult to use as the numbers are smaller which means to have to use more decimal places to 'see' the difference to any accuracy.
  2. Getting fed up with neither Skoda nor VW making updated maps available for the MIB1 Amundsen in my 2015 Octavia (no 2021 maps, still the 2020/21 maps - which Skoda ominously label as 2020/22?), while surfing I found this: Wireless Apple CarPlay Android Auto Interface for Seat/Skoda MIB 1/MIB 2 Seems like less hassle (and easier to 'sell' to SWMBO as it's chaeper) than replacing my MIB1 with a MIB2 during lockdown (and trying to persuade my uncooperative local dealer to do CP removal). Wondered if anyone has any experience of this, or of Unique Auto Developments in general?
  3. When my Octavia was out of warranty I used a local independent - half the price and no hassle/delay getting a loan car. For many years before we moved I used a VW independent near Southampton, was always 100% happy with their work. I only use dealers when I have to - during the warranty period. The last time I used Kwif Fit for tyres they didn't have a clue how to reset the TPMS and they set the tracking up for a different model - so I won't be darkening their door again.
  4. If you have a MIB1 Amundsen (Octavia built prior to May 2015 - which is what I have) then an 8GB card is correct and will have a part number beginning 5E0. The "latest" available maps for a MIB1 Amundsen on both the Skoda and VW websites have not been updated since mid-2020 - which is annoying (especially as the VW website alleges that they were updated in November 2020, but a file-by-file comparison I have done proves they are the same maps as the 2020/21 update in mid-2020 so VW are "being economical with the truth"). The MIB2 Amundsen uses different maps which need a larger SD card with a part number beginning 5L0.
  5. Sounds most like a stuck open thermostat to me?
  6. Couldn't agree more - I cite Golf 8 and Octavia IV as my evidence.
  7. No it doesn't - other than the good sense of the driver
  8. 70C seems far too low to me for normal oil operating temperature - my 1.4TSI normal runs nearer to 90C (higher on hot days when on the motorway or climbing long steep Devon hills). Plus - my previous car (Audi B7 RS4) didn't remove a 4500rpm rev limiter until the oil temperature reached 70C
  9. If stopped they might get asked why they cannot work from home - Devon & Cornwall Police are stopping cars on some of the main routes into their area and asking the purpose of the journey.
  10. Check on eBay, I've got all of my genuine Skoda SD cards from there.
  11. Fuse or ignition relay? Check the fuse diagram in the owners manual and give all the relays you can see a jiggle. Failing that you'll probably need a wiring diagram.
  12. Given all the hype around the GR Yaris I think that's a given.
  13. Looks to me like neither VW or Skoda are going to be offering any MIB1 Amundsen updates beyond the 2020/2021 version? Is there some kind of undeclared 5 year (or thereabouts) limit on map updates? I don't plan to change my 2015 Octavia anytime soon, but to get up-to-date maps (or better CarPlay) I may be forced down the unofficial MIB1 to MIB2.5 upgrade route.
  14. I always download the PDF files and save them to a NAS drive, then I've got them whenever I need them.
  15. They used to be accessible in the MySkoda app, but for some unknown reason they have been removed from the updated merged MySkoda app - several of us have open "discussions" ongoing with Skoda about this silly omission.
  16. I just had a reply from Skoda UK Customer Support telling me that it takes 24-48 hours fro the service history to be update, so I had to REMID them that the service was done on 2nd September - which is a whole lot more than 24-48 hours ago.
  17. More likely something isn't turning off when it should - which usually suggests a CAN bus issue, I think you need to get a proper fault scan done and post it here.
  18. I agree had this happen to me soon after we got out Octavia and found that I had pressed the softkey on the map to fix the map display.
  19. Did the previous driver use a turntable to help them get onto the seat and then turn into the driving position? That could put unusual load/stress onto the seat base.
  20. I said 50 miles from a LARGE town e.g. Exeter, Taunton, etc.
  21. Yes, I did - fingers didn't keep up with brain!
  22. Even when connected to the car with Android Auto or CarPlaythe phone uses it's own GPS. I found that I left the phone in my pocket the GPS was very poor so now I get the phone out of my pocket and put it in the centre console.
  23. In large conurbations possibly, but out in rural areas where the nearest small town can be many miles away and there is no rural bus service then personal mobility is still going to be the norm. Where I live we have no takeaway delivery services (Deliveroo, Uber Eats, et al), the nearest medium/large supermarket is at least 15 miles away and getting a delivery slot is a lottery, the nearest DIY stores carry such a limited stock that you have to drive the to nearest large town nearly 50 miles away for even some basic home maintenance items - you get the picture?
  24. I think one reason is the way that with DSG it can stop the engine while the car is still slowly moving (at least that happens on the Octavia III) which leaves you with power steering.
  25. That WAS true until 2018/2019 models when VAG deleted the software that looked at that voltage value (and also deleted the other hack that changed a temperature threshold). So the simple fact is you CANNOT disable start/stop with software tweaks anymore, the only methods are to disconnect the battery current monitor from the sense wire on the battery negative or (where the start/stop switch is a physical switch) by adding a third party memory module.
