I am the 1 in 5....
In the UK, Skoda and VW no longer offer 1.6Tdi in any model, its probably true of Audi and Seat too. Therefore we can infer that the 1.6Tdi is dead and buried as far the UK is concerned.

What happens if you charge a car with a '7kw on board charger', from a domestic 13 amp supply?
You need a dedicated wallbox to charge at 7Kw, the 3pin plug in charger will only ever do 3kW max, probably actually 2.4kw (10amp) The wall box and the 3 pin plug in charger cable are not chargers, they are simple controllers, that can start/stop a charge and tell the vehicle's charger what the limit is for power drawn. A bit like USB cables. https://www.savemoneycutcarbon.com/learn-save/charging-leads-type-1-and-type-2-whats-the-difference/ https://www.zap-map.com/charge-points/connectors-speeds/

EV battery fires
By now, we all know that a lithium battery fire is pretty damn difficult to extinguish. Sadly I read more and more about Teslas etc involved in accidents catching fire and sometimes incinerating the occupants. This news item caught my eye and set me wondering about the safety of areas where large numbers of battery cars might be parked close together in the future. https://www.reuters.com/business/container-ship-carrying-volkswagen-vehicles-catches-fire-near-azores-2022-02-18/ an expensive accident!

Thinking of buying Skoda Superb Elegance 2011 1.8 TSI 4x4 73k miles
From the written judgement above So, no details were given of the other two alleged partners. Second, I have checked on the Companies House web site and EJG was only incorporated yesterday. Sounds like Mr Diffy is a slippery character with an unwillingness to divulge information even to a judge. Those 2 partners may not have existed for all we or the judge knows. One reviewer who bought a car from them Bought a car from Midland Sports & Prestige (part of the Stanton Car group) car was faulty, refused to repair or return vehicle. Once they get you off the forecourt your on your own. currently still have no MOT on my car 9.5K finance. Fraudsters of the highest order. BE WARNED, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE All reviewers gave the lowest score possible, not one good word. Do leopards change their spots?

Thinking of buying Skoda Superb Elegance 2011 1.8 TSI 4x4 73k miles
Even though I'd regard myself as mechanically savvy, with the history of 1.8tsi engines and haldex that Ive seen over the years on this and other forums I'd give this one a wide berth One director company, it has only been around a year probably trading even less, https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/13135393/filing-history We are a family owned business that deals in used vehicles, sourcing and servicing. Along side our partnered garage, Stanton Car Group, we offer MOTs, diagnostics and repairs. Reviews of stanton group, I think you might change your mind..... https://www.cardealerreviews.co.uk/dealership/stanton-car-group-burton-on-trent-staffordshire-england I note the number plate is covered up, so no chance to check MOT and other vehicle history

Battery Options
You may find that a good full charge followed by long (I would say a minimum of 3 days) maintenance/float charge will restore your battery to reasonable condition, AGM batteries withstand being deeply discharged far more than other types. If fully discharged, you may have to restart the charge a few times before the battery finally starts to accept the charge. Depends on how smart your smart charger is and what it can do. Changing a battery even with the same type on a car with stop/start requires recoding, to reset parameters in the battery management system. Otherwise it may think you still have the same tired or end of life battery and will manage charge appropriately. https://www.yuasa.co.uk/info/technical/automotive-battery-operating-states-lifespan-replacement-conditions/ Presumably you are aware of how to connect a charger, the negative lead must be connected to the chassis tab and NOT the battery terminal. To stop the battery management getting confused.

Mk2 Octavia (Facelift 1.4 TSi) Questions
Another thing I've experienced on my sons Octavia at 150k is failed diff output bearings on the manual 6 speed gearbox. Luckily caught in time before the box was completely trashed. Costs around £800+ to fix at a good specialist, far more if left too late. Skoda dealer, dont even ask. Cause was likely due to a low gearbox oil level, slow oil leak over the years, level never checked, gearbox oil level no longer a service item. Symptoms are a bearing/gear type drone under acceleration, and in advanced cases like ours, a clunk when going on/off throttle ( diff moving sideways) Had same failure at 90k on a 5 speed Fabia 1.2tsi.

Mk2 Octavia (Facelift 1.4 TSi) Questions
A loud rattle on start up, usually heard after its been stood a while is a sure sign of timing chain and related components are stretched/worn and you should budget around £700-£800 to replace it, tensioner, guides, sprockets and don't forget to change the timing case crankshaft seal which is not included in the timing kit. Do not ignore it, if the chain detatches from a sprocket or jumps teeth, you will end up with a trashed engine. Ideally see if you can witness a cold start where the engine has not been started for at least a couple of hours beforehand. Traders will know to start the car prior to a visitor to avoid this being obvious. Very common issue on all EA111 engines prior to 2013. As I found out on the similar 1.2tsi the chain needs replacing every 60 to 70,000 miles, and that is with oil changed regularly and on time. A new chain (even if revised design) lasts no longer in my experience. Check for evidence that the chain has been changed and when. Invoices, service history, etc

Skoda "All-in-one" Package
Driving a vehicle that’s failed You can take your vehicle away if: your current MOT certificate is still valid no ‘dangerous’ problems were listed in the MOT Otherwise, you’ll need to get it repaired before you can drive. https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/after-the-test

Skoda "All-in-one" Package
Then I fall back to Plan B, nag and pester, Plan C, complain very loudly in the presence of other customers, Plan D get Skoda UK involved, .....and so on.....until Plan H......drive car though showroom window. 😜

Skoda "All-in-one" Package
What I was trying to say is it is surely the responsibility of the seller (dealer) to ensure your car is updated and has no outstanding TPIs using their free access to Skoda's database. For the neurotic among us, then we would have to pay €7 for an hours full access to Erwin and access the same information. Not easy for those who don't know how to use a computer, granted. I suggest people get into the habit of asking for written confirmation that all necessary updates and TPIs are carried out at every service. And it can't be that difficult to phone and ask the service manager to check if there are any outstanding, not forgetting to record the conversation or asking for a confirmation email.

Skoda "All-in-one" Package
There is no need to book your car in just to check if it needs updates. Skoda ERWIN already knows from your VIN exactly what software is fitted to your car, and that is why updates are flagged. Similarly ERWIN will tell you if a TPI applies to your car, all it takes is 30 seconds to read it and decide if action is needed. TPIs used to be called RECALLS. Changed now because of lobbying, only certain safety issues are flagged as RECALLS and only after the incompetent VOSA has decided its serious enough.(How many Zafira fires does it take to instigate a recall?)

Skoda "All-in-one" Package
A software update on the power steering module, or more correctly, a firmware update is addressing some recognised design fault, to fix it. i.e. the software and/or module was faulty at point of manufacture and Skoda is now able to fix it with an update. So they should fix it. Clearly this is the responsibility of whoever sold the car to fix at their cost, as per the Consumer Rights Act 2015 It is not simply updating maps or adding new features, these do not affect the operation or "health" of the vehicle. Contest the fee. Tell the dealer you wish to raise a case with Skoda UK regarding the legal liabilities of a known manufacturing or software issue. Ping an email to Skoda UK if they don't want to listen.

Skoda "All-in-one" Package
???? Surely software updates should be free of charge? And should done as part of service. It will be flagged to the dealer by Elsa pro or whatever Skoda software is used to generate the worksheet.

No response to acceleration pedal
Hey, It was meant to be a light hearted joke but on a more serious note the fact that your car may not be affected is not proof that some cars may be mysteriously and temporarily affected at random. After all Fareham is home to one of DSTL top secret labs.... https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/defence-science-and-technology-laboratory/about 👁️👁️👁️👁️👁️ But remember I was only joking to start with...

Dsg 7 speed DQ381
A long long time ago, I recall somewhere mentioning a snow or winter mode for DSG that has it start in 2nd gear. Example https://www.seatcupra.net/forums/threads/winter-mode-on-our-dsg-cars.328747/post-3619457 Maybe its an automatic function now based on ambient temperature perhaps. Or perhaps something has been inadvertently programmed or its buried somewhere in the infotainment. A scan of the DSG diagnostics may give a clue. Or maybe the DSG just needs resetting. (No idea how, but I know it can be done)

Light Assist fault and dead interior rear view mirror
Any decent mechanic will have a scanning tool. They may want you to pay to do scan your car, Skoda will charge £70 or more, a friendly independent may do it for free, it only takes a few minutes. If you go down this route, get a printout, or take photos or write down the fault codes and other data. Skoda won't be very cooperative here because they will want to screw you further for work. Alternatively you can buy a scanner, a basic reader can cost about £20, but your fault may require a more capable device. VCDS is a professional bells and whistles system but is expensive starting around £230 iirc. Many people are using OBD eleven and several alternatives which are much cheaper. Lastly, there are members who are willing to come round and scan your car for a few cans of beer, if they are local to you. Here is a forum which you may want to look at. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/23-diagnostics-amp-vcds/
