Noise from both LHS (? top mount area) and steering motor
It's quite weird driving ours now and it not making the noise! Odd how some Karoqs do it and some don't. Ours was 16mths old when we bought it and had only done 4K, and we've only done another 4K in a year so I wonder if it's lack of use? On one visit the dealer gave us an identical courtesy car with 13K on it and that didn't make the same noise even in places where ours always did it.

Jerky gear change
I have no issues when I drive daughter's Kamiq - it's a nice drive, actually. And that's with me normally driving autos. At least flag it up to the dealer ASAP - I'd have reported it straightaway. With clutches they'll quickly start blaming your driving style.

Pollen Filter can only be replaced as part of a Major Service?
Trouble is these things are dealt with by TTEC call centre staff who, while I'm sure are everyday nice people, are even more clueless than dealer service advisors and just accept anything they're told.

KESSY Key
Phew! Is it the one with the sliding key, or the flip out? Think the flip out ones have CR2025 batteries and some people put CR2032 in which are a bit thicker and makes the cover more likely to pop off.

The first picture in your file no17 is the one the dealer showed me.

I just thought to have a look at the online manual. It does say the boot will reopen. So that has changed from the historical VW Group approach. However it also suggests that if the fob is in the car then the doors will unlock, but then relock. Maybe it's that that the update has changed? "Protection against inadvertently locking the key in the vehicle If the key is locked inside the vehicle, the vehicle will unlock itself automatically. If no door is opened within 45 seconds, the vehicle automatically locks again. If the key is locked in the boot, the boot lid will automatically unlock itself."

Noise from both LHS (? top mount area) and steering motor
I picked the car up this morning. They told me they'd done 10 miles in it so are sure it's OK - car has done 30 miles in their care. They showed me a drawing which detailed the work (it looked like it was a TSB type of document, so it's obviously a recognised thing) and they have to grease around what looks like a nylon guide at the top of the piston that the piston rod goes through - apologies if this doesn't quite make sense, I thought they'd included the drawing in the docs folder but they didn't. They said under load the rod twists and creaks in this bush - I have said it's more of a chattering than a knock so this sounds feasible. It was fine on the drive home, including during the turn in to our village where it generally does it, although I was on my own. The acid test will be to try it with few people in. Now if I can just get them to fix the noisy a/c!

Interesting, thanks. Perhaps they've added, or beefed up the boot "fob present" sensor - or changed the auto-relock functionality. Certainly VW Group forums are full of reports of people who've done it. Some people say the boot won't lock, some say it'll unlock as it can still detect the key, although that doesn't work on later models if the key has been left for a a while as it shuts down. Here's what normally (or at least, what used to happen if it's changed) happens - notice the extra flashes when the boot is closed: (

In my daughter's case, she kept the fob in her bag. She locked the car outside her friends house, but then her friend came out of the house with the dog to go for a quick walk, so she popped the boot open, put her bag in and slammed the boot shut.

Noise from both LHS (? top mount area) and steering motor
Ours has been back at the dealer for three days. They just called to say they took it out with 5 people in it and the noise was very apparent but they really struggled to pin it down. On “advice from Skoda” they decided it was the shocks knocking so apparently (but I’d be amazed if this is true) disassembled them and… applied some “special” grease. They’ve assured me it’s fixed now. I can’t go for the car today so will have to wait & see.

Can anyone recommend a garage that could replace a failed Karoq digital instrument panel
Not sure of the legality of this, but you could use a GPS app on your phone to show speed. Or even a nav app like Waze, which shows the speed. I find myself glancing at that now and ignoring the car's speedo.

It actually happened (hence I know about it) on daughter's 2018 Ateca and I don't think that has suitable connectivity. Lukily she was only a couple of miles from home. Other daughter did use the app on her Kamiq as someone at her work had accidently picked up her keys and taken them home! The app opened the car is a few seconds. I've so far resisted paying as I think subscription services are a slippery slope. Eventually we'll be paying significant monthlies just to keep using our cars.

Hmmm - not sure about that. The common thing that catches people out is: You're out somewhere with one fob, other is at home. Starting with car fully locked, open the boot only, put the fob down inside the boot. Slam boot lid. Hazard lights flash a few times - you might not notice this, or you might stand there thinking "why the heck are they flashing?". Boot relocks. You then call for someone to bring you the other fob. This is by design - it's the way it used to work with normal remote locking. Indeed even when it was keys - you'd unlock the boot, put the keys down and slam the boot. Doh! If the car has a power tailgate, it won't lock, it'll reopen itself.

Recall
Took ours in today for the dealers 3rd look at the suspension knock and they said they'd also be doing a recall. I asked what for and they said "just an update to a control module" in a 'go away and stop asking awkward questions' way Pressed a bit more and they said exactly as above - it's to do with the keys being locked in the car. It did seem to throw a bit of a wobbly recently - I changed the key battery and then a few days later it was randomly saying the key battery was low (I know the keys with the thinner CR2025 can be iffy with the battery, but the newer CR2032 keys are better. The car was also saying the drivers door was open when it wasn't but other doors were open. I messed around with the key and locking for a bit and it's been fine since.

3 karoq - awaiting delivery what's the issue?
When self-driving car that you can just call up as needed finally take over, I really won't miss having to deal with garages and car manufacturer's contracted out customer service.

Pollen Filter can only be replaced as part of a Major Service?
In that case I don't understand why they wouldn't have done the more major service. Mind you, it's always annoyed me that VW Group have thing where spark plugs (or fuel filter on diesels) and air filter are only changed every 4 yrs, yet they still charge the same for a major service whether it's done on the 2yr or 4yr interval. To head that off, the dealer that looked after our Tiguan told me they always do the full service at 6yrs, and indeed I could see they'd changed the fuel filter (or at least they'd moved the bolts around). That was done under All In and was the first of the two services as the dealer somehow managed to sneak it onto All In even though strictly speaking it was 6yrs old the day the plan started.

How old is the car - if the pollen filter was changed in 2022 I'm guessing 4yrs?

Dealer forgot to transfer V5C to us!
That's my understanding too.

Dealer forgot to transfer V5C to us!
Story was it was a Bentley employee car - which fits as it has a Cheshire reg number. On another forum, a VW Group employee says the staff get through many thousands of cars per year although staff have had to keep cars a little longer than usual during the recent shortages. I don't know - the car was 15mths old, 4K miles and both internally and externally looked brand new. I bought Mercedes some years ago on the same terms, but that was only 5mths old with 5K miles. Apparently an MB area manager's and it had the addresses of all the NW MB dealers in the sat nav. The dealer told me about another source of cars - he'd just bought three Karoq SELs of theirs - but they get changed at 6mths old. I found that company online and they have over 1000 vehicles. On the insurance / tax thing - there isn't the specific check that there used to be. If you buy a car off someone privately you can do the change of ownership and retax the car there and then (I did it when transferring a car to a family member some years ago) and obviously "the system" won't know that the new owner has insurance for that vehicle. I know the internet likes "proof" but I think there's some kidology in those articles - of course the car is supposed to be insured but there's no automatic check that is. There hasn't been since CIE was introduced.

Pollen Filter can only be replaced as part of a Major Service?
I had some back and forth with TTEC on daughter's SEAT Ateca and they replied completely as if we had an Audi! Their whole purpose seems to be to fob people off and keep VW Group employees from having to sully themselves interacting with customers. Had the pollen filter issue with our Karoq - an Apr 22 car which we bought in Aug 23. The dealer serviced it in late June 23 so I took it for service under the approved used service plan in Jun 24 and they would only do a basic oil change, even though the service history said that's what it had last time. Dealer absolutely insisted that what they'd done in June 23 was a 1st variable service and that included a pollen filter change and extended inspection. I thought they be happy to get the car back onto the annual servicing schedule and, especially as VWFS were picking up the bill, would just do the normal 2yr fixed interval servicing, but nope, they wouldn't do it. So it's all out of sync now. Servicing on VW Group cars has always done my head in. One year on a Golf, on a 3yr service plan that was supposed to include the BF change back then, there was nothing on the paperwork to say they'd done it. On querying this, the service advisor hand wrote "brake fluid changed" on the paperwork and then absolutely insisted it had been changed! I've never been to that dealer since - luckily there's another smallish VW dealer same distance away and while they're not infallible they are much more willing to discuss issues and make sure I'm happy. I did manage to establish a relationship with the service manager there though, and only ever deal directly through them. In the previous dealer the service manager wouldn't speak to me and apparenly wouldn;t take VW Customer Services calls either, to their obvious frustration. I wish cars were sealed for life!

Dealer forgot to transfer V5C to us!
It was originally a VW Group employee car (so I was told, and bits of paperwork left in the car seem to confirm that) and then the dealer registered it to themselves to be used by one of the salesguys but pretty well at the time we bought it. I paid for the tax for a year on collection - actually taxed it myself in their showroom - so it's been double taxed for most of the last year. There's no insurance check when taxing a car - hasn't been for years. Our own insurance won't care - it's just an admin error. And anyway it's fixed now. I'm just most dismayed by how many things a dealer who are supposedly "one of the good guys" can mess up. When we bought the car they didn't realise they'd registered it themselves and I only found out as I did a V-Check on the car and it showed 2 keepers. They knocked £2K off the price for that (the car was very dear in the first place though). Servicing has been confusing as they insisted they did a variable service at 12mths, even though they recorded as an oil change service, so at 2yrs ( a couple of mths ago) they would only do a basic oil change (covered by service contract) and wouldn't do the extended inspection or change the pollen filter. We also ordered a new one at the same time, with 9mths lead time, and "agreed" a cost to change of £6K. Car turned up much ealier than exepected and they wanted £13K to change it (my wife - it's her car really - still wanted to go for it! 🤯). Not getting the new one makes the repeated faults with the a/c (it's still noisy after they changed the compressor) and the rattling suspension that they can't fix, even more annoying.

Dealer forgot to transfer V5C to us!
Had a missed call this morning - no message, so I usually ignore them, but I noticed it was similar to the dealer we use. Called the number thinking they may be chasing to get the car back in to fix the suspension that they've admitted rattles but can't locate what's wrong. Turned out it was the direct number of sales admin - they told me they'd forgotten to switch the V5 to us last Aug and the road tax had run out yesterday! I can't quite believe that I hadn't realised a new V5C hadn't arrived - I can only put it down to being very focussed on making sure the acknowledgement for our old car turned up as in the the past I've twice had to chase for that. I also hadn't twigged that we'd had the car 12mths - blimey, that time really has flown. Anyway, dealer re-taxed the car this morning and they reckon they can back-date the transfer. Must say this dealer has an almost revered reputation locally but they've messed up so many things in our dealings with them I'm wishing we'd stuck with VW!

Problem with KESSY key after battery replacement
Do you have to hold the key near the start button for the car to start? If yes, then you haven't paired the key - it will always start if the key is held in the correct place, even without a battery in the key. I suspect the pairing hasn't worked properly - I don't know the procedure because I've never had to do it but it is often the case that this type of thing takes several attempts. Normally, you just change the battery and the key works.

Problem with KESSY key after battery replacement
I've never done the "reset" step - I just change the battery, Not had any issues with Karoq key with CR2032 battery, but only changed it once. Our 2018 SEAT Ateca uses CR2025 and they seem very sensitive - some batteries work and some don't. Even one the dealer changed only lasted a month.
