  1. Evolution may well be the answer. My son has a Dutch bike...towers over everything. Dutch folk are, indeed, a fine bunch of people and Amsterdam is a lovely, relaxed city. Due another visit this year, I think.
  2. As you are looking at fitting it to a Polo.....Fabia in a different dress....it should be OK. Provided your wife conforms to the height norm of the Germanic designers. Be thankful it's not a dutch car.....population are all giants.
  3. I added the years 4 & 5 factory warranty to my Fabia, pre-registration, even though the car was actually in the country. Utterly Straightforward. The Bristol Street problem is notbone of training, but of honesty, plain and simple. Report it to the top. Nothing will happen, but you'll feel better.
  4. Please NO electric handbrake. Just something else to go wrong and simply un-necessary.
  5. Why would you pick a Redline over an MC or an SE L? I do think Skoda UK have lost sight of their market.
  6. Thank you telling me how I should live my life; it's very thoughtful of you.
  7. One man's 'stupid' is another man's personal choice. Thankfully, we're allowed to be different.
  8. My wife has a new Toyota Yaris Hybrid....surprisingly nice car and our dealings with Toyota have been simply first class. Plus 5-year/100k miles warranty as standard. The day we took delivery we asked for a fitted rubber boot mat; dealer didn't have one in stock but, 3 days later the young Salesman delivered it to our home...and fitted it. All dealer staff treat us lke family, can always pop in for a coffee and a browse/chat, and I can see my Skoda dealer Through the showroom windows. i'm tempted by an Auris.....maybe even a Hybrid. If madness prevails then I'll look at a Yaris GRMN.....1.8 supercharged 4-pot/212bhp/reworked brakes & suspension/rally seats/0-62 in 6.3secs. A bit pricey but you can't take it with you, and there won't be many about. Then there is Honda. Her last car was a Jazz. 11 years of faultless driving, brilliant interior for flexibility......you can fold everything away to make a 1 seat van with windows.....but needs more power. Not looked at the latest iteration. Interestingly, the old Jazz 1.4 was a 3-pot but totally devoid of vibration. Likeyou, I like my Fabia but price vs materials quality is not the best and I do not want a 3-pot. Friends have good reports of Hyundai, as well. Local VW dealer displays incredible arrogance and Volvo, don't have anything in the right size, which is a shame as my old S60 was a gem. Vx and Ford? Not for me. Sorry for the ramble. Let's share thoughts and findings.
  9. Three cylinders are only half a car engine....three quarters at very best. Come change time I'll not be going for any 3-cylinder device, so that may be goodbye to VW group. in my experience, the four-pot 1.2TSI/110 is a delightful device and more than happy to spin-up in an almost Italian way, or trundle around town without making it's presence unduly felt, yet ready to take advantage of suitable opportunities to play.
  10. Never had a problem like this. It surely isn't 'normal' unless the electrickery folks at Skoda CZ are amateurs....and incompetent amateurs at that. stand you ground and insist it be fixed, FOC.
  11. When you look at a headlight is there what looks like a 'fisheye' lens staring back ay you? If so, they are Projector headlights, which I think are standard on SE L spec....certainly are on my 2015 version.
  12. Seats sound like those that came as standard, (no other option), with my 2015 SE L hatch. They're OK.
  13. Just had my fob battery replaced...annual event, pretty much. Popped into local Skoda dealer here in Lincoln....£2.45 fitted and a nice free coffee whilst passing the 10 minutes. Works for me. CR 2025 is what they fit.
  14. I have never yet had an in-dash indicator that gave truly accurate verage MPG figures. They arev a guide/toy/bragging rights, no more. Note the amount of fuel you put in, note the miles travelled sinc last fuelling and work out factual numbers. Or, gett the "Fuelly" app and eep those stats on your 'phone, desktop, laptop, tablet. Whatever. Come ack in a couple of months and report findings. Thank you. Next.
  15. In the matter of wipers, or any other safety-related kit I would trust someone like Eurocarparts every time. Ebay sellers? Probably not at all. Saving a few coppers on something vital is not economy, it is daft...how often do you replace wiper blades, after all? do you buy cheap lubes, or ditch-finder tyres, or dodgy fuel, or brake linings? So why try to save coppers on visibility? Sorry, just one of my foibles.
  16. Engine component materials, and machining tolerances, have changed beyond recognition in the past 20 years. As have lubricants. Oil change intervals have as much to do with what the local market will stand...pay for...as for any technical reason. My previous Volvo S60 with the wonderful D5 5-pot turbo diesel was stated as 18,000 miles/1 year oil changes regardless of mileage. Low mileage = Annual oil change but higher mileages were fine within the year. oil change intervals in USA have, historically, been a joke. 3000 or 5000 miles not uncommon, using same quality oils found in Europe.....from same manufacturers. Someone mentioned Quantum lubes. Quality is very good so don't be put off because it's not either 'specialist' or expensive.
  17. Yep, you have convinced yourself that they were linked and now believe it to be truth. Happens to humans all the time. They are separate and that is as they should be...full control over opening/closing.
  18. Mrs Torque's Toyota Yaris Hybrid is just FWD. 1.5 petrol engine, putting out a lazy 100bhp plus an electic motor adding 45 KW and a combined torque figure of 270Nm, mated to a CVT transmission. No fireball but rather fun to drive, especially balancing progress with keeping the EV light lit...and the petrol lump at rest. There is an EV button that keeps the engine out of play until battery gets down to,about 10% of capacity, but it's more fun to refine your driving style to keep it electric for as long as possible. It has changed my views on hybrids, hence Toyota being top of my next shopping list......that and the fact that our local Toyota dealer only seems to have one answer to any reasonable question....Yes. Not forgetting, of course, the standard 5 years/100,000 miles warranty. Yaris is a bit small for me so an Auris Tourer Hybrid is a distinct possibility.
  19. You really need to drive a 1.0ltr/110 or 1.2/110 that has been run-in. They do get better with age. Mine has 17k on it now and, whilst not a rocket, it does go rather well...if you're prepared to use the revs. Coming from diesels it took me a while to get back to actually revving te engine and not relying on the deep well of torque that diesels, (particularly the Volvo D5), have. Of course, you could always find a suitable ex-demo Golf.
  20. Whilst almost every car model has increased in size...why?...domestic garages have remained the same. No wonder so few cars now live in their garage.
  21. Seriously tempted by a hybrid for next car. Toyota is front-runner at present. Skoda could still take it but time frame seems awfy long for what is no longer cutting edge technology.
  22. I have heated front seats. Two buttons on dash board panel below info screen...one for each seat. They do work well.
  23. It is actually a heavy plastic overlay, designed to do precisely what others have said. Be happy that the designers are practical people. .......and welcome to a great site. Sometimes a bit of barking, but no biting.
  24. Contact a good local bodyshop and see what they would charge to re-paint it. Colour matching is what these sort of people do. Even if you but a new one....and I suspect removal/re-fitting is not that easy...you will still need to get it painted by someone. You could, as an alternative, go onto the Superskoda site and buy 4x polished aluminium door handle covers...they merely clip on, are secure and look pretty good. Or, just leave it until you come to sell and they get all the odd scratches etc done at once. Lots of options. Don't forget...it's just a car and no-one else really cares about a wee scrape on it.
  25. Nice to see someone else with good taste in colour. Looks good and much more distinctive than the 'safe' colours; Black, White, Silver.
