  1. It does, but once there's oil pressure the play goes away. However end float is not affected by oil pressure and is much more critical.
  2. Au contraire, clearly the car will be undriveable, I can only imagine how quickly it will get away from the driver, I can almost hear the screams as it careers off the road at the first sign of steering input. I cannae change the laws of physics!
  3. If you have no end float then no, there's no need to do anything.
  4. Did somebody call the safety police, because they're here speculating again!
  5. Oil starvation in the past may have caused the wear. Yes, axial play, grip the nut and push/pull.
  6. Yes that radial play looks excessive, what is the end float like?
  7. This is a red herring and has nothing to do with why the engine is stalling after fifteen minutes running. It isn't overheating and the fans are working. Back on topic you need to change the ECT sensor if you haven't already done so.
  8. I don't think roof load would be an issue since the roof is strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle if rolled in an accident. Typically a large suitcase full of clothes and holiday stuff weighs around 30kg, I cannot imagine that having three of these on the roof would pose any problems for vehicle handling since the car with passengers would weigh ~1500kg or more.
  9. I didn't think camber was adjustable, certainly the tracking has been adjusted and everywhere is getting Hunter machines because there are plenty of cars with more adjustable suspension and they can charge extra which covers the additional cost of the monthly lease.
  10. That's pretty crazy mileage, unless you live in a very remote location and commute 200 miles daily there's no way you'll ever use it, if you were to need long range for a touring holiday then you could just rent a luxury diesel car. Practical considerations are one thing but psychological problems are another issue entirely.
  11. 75kg is a lot, thats three bags of cement, plus the load limit will have a daft margin of error and will probably handle twice that.
  12. It is self adjusting inasmuch as that the system takes up slack by taking additional fluid from the reservoir but it cannot compensate for weakened diaphragm springs.
  13. Actually the bite point depends on clutch wear and pressure plate diaphragm strength rather than the hydraulic system.
  14. It's not the immobiliser since that doesn't affect cranking. It sounds like it's probably the starter solenoid which means replacing the entire starter motor assembly if you're using a garage to do it.
  15. Yes, that seems likely and would explain the awful handling.
  16. Take the car to an auto electrician, not a mechanic, they are different trades, mechanics are usually very bad electricians. Hence your problems.
  17. The tracking was out, they adjusted it, it should be fixed now.
  18. They've adjusted the right front toe, so it should be ok now. What's the question again?
  19. Perhaps it's up under the dash out of sight.
  20. I've never seen such a thing, I had a very early 2000 1.4 16V and that certainly didn't have a stop beneath the clutch pedal. My 2.0 doesnt have one either. A stop would get broken or make a noise, I've never seen one on any car I've driven. Many cars have one under the throttle pedal but not the clutch.
  21. 3500 RPM, redline is twice that, peak torque on the BBZ is about 4500 RPM, pretty quiet and relaxed at motorway speeds.
  22. I can only imagine but the OP is taking the lid off held on with two bolts which looks like a plenum chamber where high pressure gas exits the pump, I imagine it'll be full of PAG oil but the gas is all gone now.
  23. It's one of the more reliable engines, elegance is a nice trim level and 99k with history suggests it's been well looked after, estate is very practical too. I'd certainly buy it if I were in your position.
  24. It'll be ok, it's a radial variable stroke swashplate pump, not a cartoon acme box of busted springs
