  1. If they've dropped into the sump and they're small enough they might come out when you drain the oil, since they're too big to fit through the mesh strainer then they'll just sit in the sump and won't do any harm.
  2. It's nonsense and won't make any difference, just use whatever is cheapest. If you want to know if it's the piston rings you need to compression test all four cylinders.
  3. Just ignore the blue light, it doesn't matter.
  4. Why was the cam sprocket removed for crying out loud, that engine could be dead, you'd never know, it's been sat so long. I suspect somebody was going to take the head off which suggests the head gasket is blown.
  5. This is just so dumb, spark plugs don't age, you can buy NOS plugs for vintage cars that are 50 years old yet brand new, by that logic you shouldn't use them because they're over 4 years old. Staggering stupidity.
  6. No it's not true, it means they don't know, but if you're prepared to pay them a lot of money they will try a lot harder.
  7. You may find this job too challenging unless you have access to a fully equipped workshop.
  8. Look, if your engine is burning oil then you only need a new core, all your ancillaries are fine, if you were to buy a reconditioned engine core you'd still have to move all your ancillaries over to the new engine. Are you going to try and do this work yourself?
  9. It won't be the same engine code obviously, but the core will be the same, the core is the block and head, all the other stuff that bolts onto it makes for a different code because it's for a different application.
  10. It is the same core engine, I can't comment on the ancillaries but you can swap them over from your engine if the connectors are different and use your existing pump. You'll have to re-use your engine mounts too since the Octavia is a larger Golf platform car.
  11. It's NEVER the steering rack, god alone knows why you've been told it needs replacing, the rack is a purely mechanical device and only has to be replaced if it's leaking oil. If you're losing steering at low speeds then it HAS to be a bad battery, I don't care if it's been checked, testing batteries is very difficult to do and I strongly suspect that the voltage is dropping at low engine speeds while the PAS pump is yanking 60A out of it. Just spend £50 and fit a new one instead of £1300 on a load of work that doesn't need doing.
  12. I can't believe this, just because the OP didn't see the dwarf with a portapak hiding in the engine bay doesn't mean they weren't there, I thought that people kept an open mind on here, next you'll be telling me that father Christmas isn't real either!
  13. Yes, swap out 3 & 4 to start with and see if it improves, if it stays the same then swap 1 & 2 with the ones you took out.
  14. Then you have at least one failing coil pack.
  15. Coil pack or ignition leads depending on which engine you have.
  16. I can't tell if he really can't see where he's going or if he's trying to put lipstick on the pig.
  17. Was the throttle body or the throttle pedal replaced, because whichever one was done, it's the other one that needs doing.
  18. I'd take it back, you want a low-smoke torque limited map, not a balls out smokey jobbie, if you complain loudly enough they should change it for nowt.
  19. All show and no go, polish your headlight lenses properly, you'd be amazed at the difference and you'll save a fortune.
  20. As a third option you could get it reflashed with a good map, keeping the power but losing the smoke. It's probably a legacy map from the noughties back when the moronic mantra of cretinous diesel tuners was "no smoke, no poke" and every remapped oil burner had a matte black tailgate from the soot belching from the exhaust.
