  1. I have a 64 plate Octavia and my USB port charges my iPhone 5/4 and Kindle Paperwhite and I use none genuine cables. You could also print this thread and show the dealer.
  2. Be careful, the Amundsen does not read native iTunes music files and your whole library will need to be in MP3 format - It's a right pain.
  3. Czech of ski the forecourt - the last couple of minutes of Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture. https://youtu.be/VbxgYlcNxE8?t=13m58s
  4. Yes you must speak to VW finance, the car belongs to them and under the supply of goods act they have to provide a car of serviceable quality. Have you considered getting an independent inspection of the car, if they confirm there is an issue you have evidence of the fault to go to the finance company with - if found faulty the cost can be reclaimed from VW finance.
  5. If you live in the UK, you need to understand where your legal contract is and then what influence Skoda UK can have. If you bought your car on any form of finance the car belongs to the finance company until the last payment and they have to under the supply of goods act provide a car of satisfactory quality. They can offer repair. It the car is repaired and still continues to fail again not of satisfactory quality and you can reject the car. Within the law the finance company are within there rights to only give you market value for the car - had this done to me. Paid for the car in full, the car belongs to you and your contract is with the supplying dealer and again they have to prove under the supply of goods act they have supplied a car of satisfactory quality, Within the law the dealer are within there rights to only give you market value for the car. Extract from the supply of goods act 1979 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1979/54#commentary-c1108905 (2)Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are of satisfactory quality. (2A)For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances. (2B)For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods— (a)fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied, (b )appearance and finish, (c )freedom from minor defects, (d)safety, and (e)durability. Skoda UK can act as a go between for you and provide goodwill payments, but are not legally responsible. Compensation as below.
  6. I drove diesels for years and now have a 1.4tsi and love it. With the DSG if needed it shifts and my car rarely has just me in it and is usually four up. If you have a Skoda dealer near by I would test drive the 1.4tsi next to the 1.6.
  7. The Octavia is about mid cycle and in the next 6 to 12 months will be due a face lift.
  8. I do wonder if the 1.4 140 and 150 in the Octavia is the 1.4 ACT engine running different software/map. Edit just realised VW off a 1.4 without ACT in the Golf so it's not the same engine.
  9. Around town in London and cities alike the DSG comes into its own and just makes driving easy. The 7 speed is slick and quick and just keeps the car moving and quickly when needed. Any gearbox can give issues and searching the internet might not be the best way to get an idea of how good a car/gear box is, take this forum most of the posts are about a problem or a possible problem does that make the Octavia a bad car - no the problems are in the 0.001% or less of total production. I would go for the 1.4TSI over the 1.2. The 1.2 is ideal for around town and the 1.4 is ideal for your long runs fully loaded.
  10. Good to read it's an easy fix and the AA new not to tow the car.
  11. The DPF has a separate warning light (page 22 of the manual). From the manual, If the warning light  begins to flash while driving, a fault exists in the engine control. The system allows the vehicle to run in emergency mode. Seek help from a specialist garage. You need to take the car to a dealer and let them have a look and see if any fault codes have been logged - I had it a lot on my 1.2TDI greenline Fabia, it kept blowing injectors.
  12. The big shift to diesel cars is because of the increased fuel efficiency over petrol to the point Gordon Brown brought in the extra tax on diesel. This government is likely to increase the tax on diesel over petrol, (shifting car sales towards petrol) while bringing in lower emission levels that will hit diesels. My 1.4TSI is almost as fuel efficient as my 1.6TDI CR. Average residuals between diesel and petrol cars are already very close, diesel 38.9 and petrol 38.3 after three years and over the coming years are likely to swap.
  13. Can't see the extra 10ps making much difference in the real world, torque's the same for the DSG and 0-62 has changed from 8.3 to 8.2 for the estate. Cars are supposed to be getting cleaner, my EU5 DSG 115, EU6 117 co2?
  14. Could be just a faulty thermostat, in the old days I would just take it out for the summer months.
  15. Had a rare run along the M6/42 using ACC in Eco mode in my 1.4 TSI, set the ACC to all the speed limits along the way and drove as fast as the traffic and limit would allow. Out 55 mpg on the way back through heavier traffic (breakdowns and accidents) the car registered 60.1 mpg at on point and ended up at 55.7 thanks to a broken down lorry. I am happy with the mpg using ACC - as good as my manual 1.6TDI Fabia with standard CC.
  16. Good luck with the new car, you have to do what is best for you and your body.
  17. I am just under halfway with mine and am quite undecided. The car industry has just had sales better than before the crash, and as a result current residuals have been affected. By the time I come to change my car residuals might have changed. Last night I read about car residuals for 3 year old cars on the AutoExpress website, petrol/hybrid 39.3, diesel 38.9 and petrol 38.3% - not a lot in it. I nearly bought a Toyota Auris Hybrid and not the Octavia and my next car might be a hybrid.
  18. I really like ACC and probably could get better MPG myself, but bought ACC for easy lazy driving. As for Eco mode, for me it is no Eco mode, I live in a hilly part of the country and the best MPG I get is from individual mode and no coasting out of gear.
  19. I suggest the TSI, especially if you do a lot of short town driving where the engine and exhaust do not get hot. The 1.4 is a great engine, much better than my previous 1.6TDI in the smaller Fabia.
  20. The new hatch 1.4 150ps EU6 manual is 120 CO2 and with 17/ 18" 118 with 16", in DSG with 17/18" 115 and 112 with 16". The estate is 121 with 17/18" and 119 with 16" wheels ,DSG is 117/114. Interesting as a lot of company cars will be SE spec with 16" wheels. The 1.4 is as quick as Pipsyp 150TDI. Then again I am not the best thermometer for a car as my next car could be a Dacia - if I get nothing for the car over three years it would cost no more than the Octavia.
  21. Mine was piggy backed with a 3amp fuse. Not your fault gadgetman. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I've had my money back. I suspect there is a possibility the hard wire kit is causing the cams/ GPS units to die, with both of mine I had a smell of burning electronics which could have been down to the hard wire kit. Better to send the cam back than risk the car.. Sad that the good intention of the group buy has ended with disappointment. I am still outstanding the return postage for two faulty units.
  23. Nox levels from DVLA. 1.4TSI Manual 27, DGS. 21. 1.6 TDI Greenline 117. Co2 Greenline. 85 1.4TSI. 121, DSG 116 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Most people are concerned about a car's real MPG and what tax band it's in. I suspect the government will do two things, first they will change VED possibly linking Nox and or age to the band and increase the diesel levy at the pumps. Those people that can afford to change there car will get cleaner cars and those that cannot will have to bare the cost, either way the government wins and over time pollution drops.
