  1. I also think your user name is unusual, however, life is too short to be in any way concerned enough to make strange suggestions concerning its removal, I am not in the least bit offended by it. Just hope that I will not be castigated by all the people who do not like it. Long live democracy, Freedom of Speech and an incurable sense of humour
  2. When people are enquiring about the merits of a 4x4 against a 2x4, most of the replies seem to major on performance in snow and ice. Lets not loose track of the fact that driving in winter conditions with a 4x4 and winter tyres (of course) is only a fraction of a year of motoring. I have have ordered a 4x4 Yeti because of its superior traction and advanced levels of stability on all types of surfaces in all weather conditions ie wet greasy roads following summer storms, muddy roads, grit covered roads, adverse camber, towing etc etc. This is where such a system is far more advantageous, Winter performance is the icing on the cake!
  3. I ordered a Yeti 2.0 TDI CR 170 Elegance with Floor Mats, Spare Wheel, Tyre Pressure Monitor, Annapurna Alloys in Candy White on the 5th November 2010. Total cost £18855.29 inc delivery to my home address. I paid a £500 deposit on a credit card which gives you Section 75 cover for the full purchase price. You should also be aware that a V5 has emblazoned across the front that it is not proof of ownership of the vehicle, this is provided by your sales invoice. I must say that I was very surprised at the price. The company I used was "Carquake" at the following site: http://www.carquake.co.uk/ The car is due in to the dealer on Sunday 24th April (So they say!)
  4. Diligentia maximum etiam mediocris ingeni subsidium Lets call a truce, I surrender to a superior intellect, you think I am arrogant and I think you are Walter Mitty.
  5. Erm!! I think your "Paper" has a big brown smudge on it, follow the link in my previous post and it clearly states that natural gas is stored in "Old Salt Mines" in the US. Also you ought to contact Danny Fortson at "The Times" and put him right, he seems to think differently. Check this link:- http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/natural_resources/article6936263.ece As far as putting a fan heater inside a motor vehicle is concerned you must be seriously deranged, with over 35 Years as a Fire Officer I would urge anybody who thinks that it is a good idea to think again!! and not follow your dangerous example.
  6. Erm! "Salt Cavities" (your quote) are caverns left over from worked out salt mines, I know, I live 14 miles from the largest salt mine in the UK. You should check this article out which refers to natural gas storage in the USA:- http://www.articlealley.com/article_226908_22.html However, getting back on topic,I think you should contact Skoda`s good ideas department, fan heaters in cars should be in the manual, what an inspired idea!!
  7. Llanigraham, Thanks for your support, Terfyn scares me, you know he has to shoulder a great burden of knowledge and he has also worked in an old salt mine. So if there is a little man under the Yeti bonnet or should I say hood (That`s what they call it in the US ), you can be certain he knows what a gas analyser does!!
  8. It must be very scary knowing that you have been entrusted with such an onerous level of knowledge. Me, I am just plain thick, I thought there was a miniature chemist located under the bonnet busily analysing things. But apparently I am wrong, It appears that the HVAC is controlled by a fast response gas analyser which when set to auto will trigger actuators controlling exterior air inducement. And now for the really exciting bit, as we all know (apart from you) gas is a random group of atoms and molecules, a smell or odour is actually a gas, Ergo - the sensors in the Yeti ventilation air intakes will detect both gas and odour. So Llanigraham you are totally correct.
  9. This is pasted text from the 11-2010 Owners Manual, page 104. It shows that automatic air distribution uses air pollution sensors to control pollutants being sucked into the vehicle from the exterior. It does not effect temperature or humidity levels. Recirculated air mode In recirculated air mode air is sucked out of the interior of the vehicle and then fed back into the interior. When the automatic air distribution control is switched on,an air quality sensor measures the concentration of pollutants in the drawn-in air. Recirculated air mode prevents polluted air outside the vehicle from getting into the vehicle, for example when driving through a tunnel or when standing in a traffic jam. If a considerable increase in concentration of pollutants is recognized by the air quality sensor, when the automatic air distribution control is switched on, the air distribution control will temporarily be switched off. If the concentration of pollutants decreases to the normal level, the air distribution control is automatically switched off so that fresh air can be guided into the vehicle interior.
  10. You are either deranged, on something, or have a serious medical problem, which ever one it is, go and see a doctor soon, before it gets any worse!
  11. Rockhopper - I agree with you entirely, my Better 3/4 has a Mini Cooper D with a DPF, she has driven some 24000 miles over 2 years, most of it local runs for her job. We have had absolutely no issues whatsoever, it has not influenced how she drives the vehicle at all, in fact, the first time I heard about these "So Called" problems were in these very forums. The only thing that grabs my intention is the stunning shiny interior of the tailpipe, which proves to me how efficient these devices are and what a valuable contribution they play in improving our environment.
  12. Ahh! Newtown, gateway to the Mawddach Estuary and Mrs. Whites CL. Happy days.
  13. I believe that the term "Mc Donald`s" refers to a fast food franchise normally found in the more populated areas of the United Kingdom as opposed to the more remote locations. As for the description "500ml bottle", I have been reliably informed that it refers to a new unit of measurement describing the capacity of a liquid containment vessel. This ground breaking new "Metric System" is gradually filtering through to the more isolated areas and will eventually replace Imperial measurements. PS. I did not sell you your caravan - did I?
  14. Has somebody upset Terfyn, he has gone very quiet.
  15. Found out yesterday that my 170 4x4 Elegance ordered 5th November 2010 will be at the dealers by 24th April (Sunday?). When I rang 3 weeks ago they said 17th April.
  16. Insurance hike sounds good, one other thing I am desperate to know, it seems you are quite garrulous about your re-map, have you cleared it with Skoda. If not, lets hope they do not monitor these posts.
  17. While you are at it, I would also get an insurance quote, they are getting a bit touchy about "Mods" especially performance enhancing alterations.

  19. I quite fancied a VW Tiguan untill I calculated how much it would cost to spec it up to be on a par with an Elegance, the final nail in its coffin was the stingy one year roadside assistance and recovery (Same as Nissan).
  20. I stopped using "Back to Black" because of the aggressive pigment used in its composition, I found that it actually changed the colour of the bumpers. However, I now use a far superior product - Autoglym Bumper care, it is a gel like product with no added pigment, it gives fantastic results especially on "Porous" finishes. Try this Link:- http://www.autoglym.com/engb/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=EM&Range=1
  21. Why dont people understand what the are saying!!! I must give you top marks for the most jaundiced comparison imaginable. If you truly wish to compare the running costs of the 1.2 and a diesel (Spelt diesel not deisel)the most reliable comparison would be between the Yeti SE 1.2TSI 105PS 0-60 11.8 Secs, 175NM 1550-4100, £16705 and the Yeti SE 2.0TDI CR 110PS DPF, 0-60 11.6 Secs, 250NM 1750-2500, £18045. These two vehicles are more or less perfectly matched in performance and specification. The 2.0 TDI works out at £1340 more than the petrol, according to the trade depreciation tables, at the end of 3 years the 1.2 TSI will be worth 43% which is £7016 and 2.0 TDI will be worth 45% which is £8120 a difference of £1104. Therefore, in 3 years time the Diesel has cost £236 more than the petrol, if we now factor in the fuel costs obtained from the official "VCAfueldata" site, 12,000 Miles per year x 3 using the combined fuel cycle figure, the petrol costs are £4155 and the Diesel £3537, which equates to the Petrol costing £618 more than the Diesel, if we now deduct £236 mentioned above from this figure of £618 the Petrol does in fact cost £382 more over a 3 year period! Put that in your tailpipe and smoke it! I own a 58 Plate Mini Cooper S Clubman, 1.6T, 173BHP, 177LB/FT,0-60 7.6 Secs, 47.9 mpg (Combined)Band E Road Tax £110, Fuel costs on a combined cycle according to the VCA £1276 for 12,000 miles. My wife owns a Mini Cooper D 1.6D (Diesel) 108BHP, 177LB/FT, 0-60 9.9 Secs, 74.3 mpg (Combined) Band B Road Tax £20!!!!!, Fuel costs on a combined cycle according to the VCA £830 for 12,000 miles. I drive both these cars and find that once on the move the diesel is more than a match for the Cooper S, that is because both engines produce the same amount of torque. But that is where the comparison stops, the Diesel has nearly half the fuel costs, £20 a year Road Tax, 5 Year servicing £180. That is why the Cooper S is going to make way for a Yeti 170 2.0 TDI CR 170PS 4X4 DPF Elegance. Official Goverment Fuel Data Site:- http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/
  22. Explain why a Diesel 110PS (52.3 mpg combined) is more expensive to run than a Petrol 105PS (44.1 mpg combined). How does the torque figure of 175NM equate to the diesels 250NM in real world driving. You also appear to have overlooked the fact that the enhanced cost of the diesel when new is recouped when the vehicle is sold especially when the residual values are also some 3% higher. As for your comments about "Uncivilised Noise" and vibrations, utter nonsense drive a modern diesel and find out for yourself.
  23. I would like to get things into perspective, I tried a dealer in the Midlands who told me he had a pre-registered Yeti Elegance 170 4x4 in Blue with "Gobi" leather. He wanted £22000, it had done 3500 miles and when we turned up for the test drive it was so dirty that it was difficult to see what shade of Blue it actually was. At the time there were also a number of used Yeti`s available on the internet at the same sort of price range. I can only assume that the surprisingly lengthy delivery times were adding a premium to the asking prices of used models, that is probably why Carquake seemed more than happy to refund my deposit when I enquired about the delivery schedule last week (obviusly no shortage of customers available to fill my slot). Decision time had arrived, it was late October and I needed to make a move, do I buy the much used and abused demonstator for £22,000 which would have been available more or less immediately or go for a brand new factory fresh Yeti delivered to my door for £18855 together with a 5-6 months wait. I choose the latter and ordered on the 5th November 2010.. I was not particularly concerned about the V5 retention because it is the Sales Invoice and receipt and not the V5 that provides proof of ownership. It is also worth remembering that if you purchase via a PCP or HP agreement it is the finance company that actually own the vehicle untill the loan is repaid and the Option to Purchase fee is paid.
