  1. We have used the following company quite reasonable price. http://www.espuk.com I've got a couple of the halogen guardcams, and are quite good. As for cameras, all depends on what you want to cover, distance to object, light levels, etc. The more tv lines a camera has, more cost, IR has to be able to reflect off a surface, so no good for vast open spaces at nights. If you go for a kit system, then everything is in the box
  2. Plenty of old pitched filled cut-outs still in use, being fed via old pilc cables which was designed purely for 50s/60s houses when there wasn't a great deal of appliances etc. Also there is still "looped services" in use, where a supply goes into one house and then a link from that house into next door. Could be that it might be a burn out in the first house causing supply issues
  3. Another issue could be the RCD main switch is actually tripping at a milli-amp rating than stated on the actual rating of the RCD. A friend had a issue with his consumer unit and things was tripping at random. I carried out a Ramp test and over several tests the rcd was tripping at 17 milli-amps rather than around 30 milli-amps. With most things off , we went around switching various items and eventually it tripped. So wiring was ok, but as the leakage increases with items in use, the rcd tripped. Changed the rcd to a new one and carried out the ramp test and was tripping about 28 milli-amps . He hasn't had any issues since then. Another test is a earth leakage test, as it could also be a circuit with a pre existing high leakage and that can lead to false faults, as people think it's a kettle etc at fault, as it trips the rcd when it's used, where the fault is in the wiring, rather than the appliance Proteus isn't a manufacturer we won't use, we use MK, Wylex, Hager, Schneider and don't get any issues with them. Tend to get issues with the cheaper brands. As others have said, best to get a spark in to give it a once over. Have you had any periodic inspection carried out?

  5. I Used the M50 around Dublin in July, which has a toll-less system in use for a few euros, which you can pay by 8pm the next day. Paid the 1st one and on the return trip, what with ferry timings and ending up in hospital upon getting home, forgot all about it. Had a letter through from EPC, regarding the outstanding toll fee and admin charge, was grand total of £10.20
  6. Strabane is where I'm from originally and knew about the PSNI landrover incident. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/northern-ireland/psni-land-rover-strays-over-the-border-after-getting-lost-its-a-major-international-incident-fumes-donegal-councillor-30005790.html People both sides of the border were laughing about for weeks. I have relatives who live outside lifford and the stories regarding the Gardai, has had myself and the missus in stitches. Basically they said all the episodes from Father Ted, are probably based on real life incidents in Ireland, probably around Donegal. I did came across all those proposals regarding drink driving, learner drivers, etc. In theory some good points and some that needs admendments.
  7. Most quality wood burners with an airwash facility Will keep the glass reasonably clean, but it will get dirty over a period of time. Get some of the riddled fine ash from the ash pan, wet some kitchen roll, dip it in the ash and lightly scrub the glass to remove any deposits and then wipe dry with a cloth and it will come up a treat
  8. Plus they still have to pay for the remainder of the contract and be without a phone
  9. Out of curiosity, what would happen if you reside in Scotland along the border say an officer from a Scottish police force decides to follow you and you actually stop on English soil? Can they breathalyze you, and if they can and say you was over 50mg but below 80mg, could they prosecute? Now before anyone says, I don't drink when I drive and if I have a night out during the week, I will book the day off or get a work colleague to pick me up. I can see this causing a few problems along the border regions regarding 2 different levels close together. I'm originally from a border town in northern Ireland and they have the same issue. 80mg for northern Ireland and 50mg for the republic of Ireland. You can drive down some roads and cross over and back the border several times, and the locals use that to their advantage, as there is no border control or checkpoints since the good Friday agreement. PSNI cannot cross over into the republic and the Gardai can't cross over into northern Ireland the northern Ireland assembly are now planning to reduce the drink drive limit to 50mg to get around this loophole, so everyone knows it's 50mg regardless which side of the border you are
  10. Make sure you have the height clearance on the fluorescent fitting. Last thing you want to do is to turn around or stand up and hit the tube with your head. If you want a fluorescent fitting, go to a electrical wholesaler and ask for a LUV fitting, which is totally enclosed and much safer in confined spaces http://www.sparksdirect.co.uk/lights/fluorescent-fittings/weatherproof-fluorescent-lights
  11. Make sure the lamp is enclosed, seen too many fluorescent fittings with the tube exposed, which could lead to a nasty accident
  12. https://www.gov.uk/calculate-your-redundancy-pay You can calculate your redundancy pay using the above link. Redundancy pay is capped at £468 per week for each complete year of employment and total years employment is capped at 20 years
  13. There most likely be a CD player in the glove box, as considering a lot of the older generation are not into modern technology, they tend to still use CD's. My girlfriend's father still can't get around the fact I have quite a few cd's on my SD card and it's too technical for him. All he wants is be able put a CD in or press a preset for his radio stations
  14. I'm quite lucky as we are surrounded by a few good independent breweries. My current favourite are tiny rebel in Newport and untapped brewery at raglan. http://www.tinyrebel.co.uk http://www.untappedbrew.com/brews Also started to get into real cider now as I found this little cider mill tucked away a few Miles from my house, only came across it purely by chance as we was working in the area. http://blaengawneycider.co.uk/cider/ I had a 20 litre box of the medium cider matured in old rum casks, that didn't last long !!!
  15. He doesn't live on our street, as I don't recognize the car. More than likely visiting someone on the street, as we are used to ambulances attending to older and sick neighbours, including myself. Most people just park their car down the road and collect it later. If we can't get out due to an emergency vehicle, so be it. It's just one of the downside to living in a cul du sac, but it's a very quiet street
  16. The fat cn#t who had a go at an ambulance crew who was attending an emergency at a neighbour's house in our cul de sac. Sat there right in front of the ambulance with headlights glaring few feet away. Feckers like him who abuse the emergency services whilst attending an incident , have no place in society and should be taken outside and shot on the spot.
  17. Thought it was general practice that you don't turn on or turn OFF any electrical switch/ apparatus as switching off can cause a spark, due to breaking the switch contacts under load
  18. We work on the overhead electric network and I be honest with you, it's not the Health and safety issue, it's the claim culture from house holders, public etc. We are not allowed to set a foot on a roof, due to the risk of a customer "claiming" for damage. I had to arrange scaffolding just to carry out a 5 min repair. We had jobs cancelled as customers refuse to allow us to place ladders against their house incase we damaged their render, even though they rendered over the service cable. Then soon change their tune when we disconnect them on the pole, as they created the risk and they get billed for a disconnection, and a new service alteration. As for the poles , they belong to the electric board/BT and the engineers are trained to inspect and test the pole , that it's safe to climb using a ladder/ or climbing irons and securely using a harness. We had a call out from a patroller regarding a customer who decided to mount a flood light 2ft away from a live 11kv line and he took offence to us removing the flood
  19. Is it a company vehicle? If so report him to company. We had a issue with a LWB sprinter van parking on our street, causing access issues to other vehicles especially refuse lorries, emergency vehicles and access off our properties
  20. I get this all the time from neighbors 2 houses down. They seem to think it's acceptable to over hang my drive.. came to a head yesterday,as the neighbour opposite is in his 70s and currently receiving treatment for prostrate cancer. No matter what he did, he couldn't get his car out of his garage due to the length of the his car and width of the road. He knocked on their door, ask them politely to move it. The wife told him she isn't moving it and then when he went back to his car, her husband came out and started to threaten him. At this point I phoned another neighbour and we went to his aid..typical bully boy, all mouth and he backed off when he seen us coming over..came home today to find the drive blocked and unable to get the van on the drive. Asked them to move and refrain from parking and him and son starts mouthing off, threatening to vandalised the car and van. Son saying you don't know what I do, just started laughing at the fetus. I be more intimidated by the likes of 1direction than this little to55 pot
  21. My missus is Welsh and she was completely shocked when she seen one of the campaign adverts when we was over visiting my family in Tyrone a few years ago. My aunt and uncle couldn't believe that these adverts aren't shown on the mainland. I told them people complain about anything these days if it upsets little tarquin. I don't know if you had the adverts over here regarding electrical substations, but there was one with a kid whose frisbee landed on a transformer and he went to get it,climbed on the transformer and was quite horrific but it did its job.
  22. Now it's 02.10 am and I got to contend with drunken A$$ holes coming home from the pub, making a bloody racket. Next door has came home 30 mins ago and has made so much noise. Guess who's being woken up at 8am when I start Jack hammering my foot path up ready for the builders . I wouldn't mind so much, but I live in Wales
  23. It's the same on my VW transporter works van. I hate HHC being on a manual vehicle. It caught a few lads out at work initially as they was reporting issues with the vans regarding the situation you described. However on my yeti dsg, I find HHC is excellent
  24. Well eventually got round to fitting the dozer XL from mick's garage. Quite impressed with the quality of the item for the price, not up there with the Thule. The clamps have to be fully open to engage the roof rail. One thing for certain is, make sure you attach the bottom plastic strip under the roof bar, otherwise you will have a whistling noise once you get over 40mph. As for the Thule whisper bar, they will fit after a bit of modification to the dozer feet clamps, so will fit the whisper bar later on
  25. waterbeach is No longer an engineer regiment. The barracks and airfield us being sold off and is currently under proposal for 8000 new homes. When I was posted there, there was no museum
