Vehicle options ... probably Audi A3 or Toyota Corolla Hybrid ... circa 2020 models
This is the one I test drove last weekend ... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202307109481689?sort=price-asc&body-type=Estate&fuel-type=Petrol Hybrid&fuel-type=Petrol&make=Toyota&maximum-badge-engine-size=2.0&minimum-badge-engine-size=2.0&model=Corolla&advertising-location=at_cars&fromsra I was quite surprised to be just given the keys and said to bring it back in 15 to 20 minutes. Too many miles on this one but I'm starting to warm to the Primer (Manhattan) grey colour ......... hmmm

Yes, I'm definitely NOT having a White or Silver one and probably not a Primer Grey one either ............ I don't want folk flagging me down in town, Lol Colour is the one particular choice that I am still pondering Gaz.

Vehicle options ... probably Audi A3 or Toyota Corolla Hybrid ... circa 2020 models
It has been a long time coming and I think I have now discounted the Merc A class and its CLA also ... I like the CLA but not so keen on it's interior, so........... Any thoughts on the Title cars, especially from current or previous owners (around this specific model year) would be greatly appreciated. I see the A3 has been around in this guise since 2013 with just a facelift in 2016 ...... I would probably look at the Black Edition if I go for this. They look smart IMO in this spec BUT i think the third gen maybe looks a little dated. I test drove a Corolla Touring (I would go this model) today and it was certainly different ...... I quite like it's shape and it's interior too so currently thinking this may be the choice if I find the right one but maybe I need to test drive the A3 first. I did like my petrol A4 2.0T. Cheers

E-bike
Just purchased .......... An offset chainring spider A crank extractor tool ............ (but now I mention that, i'm not sure that I actually need one, bugger) And a lockring tool Ready for a chainring swap on the Strike. 34T to possibly a 38T or a 40T I already have a 40T as have just swapped the Vado back to it's original 44T, so if the shoe fits eh, Lol .......... And it will make for much easier swaps in the future .............

Speedometer reliability / accuracy
On the occasions that I have checked versus Tom Tom Go520 ......... Speedometer always seemed to read about 3mph over what the sat nav indicated. Higher or lowering the vehicle speed made no difference .... generally 3mph.

E-bike
I have now a (switchable on / off, so I can use it only on private ground) Volspeed V4 fitted to my Scott Strike ............. Amazing. It really does make for a different experience. And after many months of wondering if it would make enough difference to fit a Levociraptor Gen 2 to my Specialized Vado SL (as its motor has only 35nm torque) I purchased one and fitted just today and went for a test ride. Made such a difference that I cannot believe, especially considering the low torque motor. The Vado is only 15kg in total. The Strike is 25kg. Achieved in excess of 20 mph easily on the Vado ......... and only in tour mode, didn't even try it in Turbo and didn't even push myself much at all. All testing was done on private grounds. Used safely and legally, I definitely recommend. I need to look at the swaps next (chainring and cassette) that i mentioned for the Strike as I am very pleased with the cassette swap on the Vado from the 11/42t to the 105 CS-R7000 11-30t. I did neglect to say that I had to adapt the back of the new cassette though as it didn't push onto the hub quite far enough. I had to cut grooves on the back of the cassette to match the hub splines ......... just so it pushed on by about another 2mm so that the lockring would fit and the new cassette lined up / same position as the original cassette.

Used Car Prices
I haven't even looked at one yet as I had set my mind on an A class but due to the fact they are everywhere and prices of them are stupid money ....... ........ I am considering an E class coupe instead ........... They seem to be one of the better value cars, (I can understand why) although still overpriced. I was convinced that I was going petrol engine but comments about the smaller petrol engines needing to be revved, and not sounding great either, I may stick with diesel. Liking the thought of a E250 (twin turbo). Really needing to think, do I need to be practical, Lol. I need to check insurance but this shouldn't be a problem and the ones I am looking at are ULEZ compliant, at least atm. If anyone has any thoughts Re diesel and it's future, I am interested to hear.

Used Car Prices
I don't think that is what George was saying as he states 'there has to be a turnover of stock' ........... I totally agree with the thinking that the 'trade won't just sell at any price' .............. The whole idea of this topic is that stock has already been hidden away for some time now, having the consequence of highly inflated prices to boot.
-
Used Car Prices
I disagree, based on a few factors ...... 1 The car supermarkets and traders have already, and continue to do so afaik, paid top wack for trade ins and folk just selling their cars. (I do get that the px part of this is not such a big factor as the buyer would have also paid top wack for their newer car). 2 There are a lot of people with more money than sense, in most cases a lot more money than sense... 3 And the ones that have about as much (little) money as (little) sense, just borrow stupid amounts to have the best car they cannot really afford. 4 Any 'small influx of cars' (with folk trying to cash in on high prices) will just be sent to storage somewhere. Their company will still be worth ££££ as they still have the stock. So, prices may vary a little but there is no way I see any kind of 'price crash' happening. A bit like houses, people need and want cars ....... and whilst finance is so easily available I cannot see a change.

Automatics ......
It is NOT a choice for me but a necessity. (I would have one anyway tho). Having had the Octy DSG since FEB 2011 and it not putting a foot wrong so far, I would certainly not hesitate to have another. However, considering that a different manufacturer may not have a DSG equipped vehicle, are there any other Auto's (by manufacturer / car type) that you would, or wouldn't recommend ??? Car is likely to be somewhere between 2016 and possibly up to 2020. As @Aspman, I've been promising myself a newer car for about 6 yrs now. Wish I'd have bought one back then .... prices are so extortionate to date. Thanks.

Pre-facelift drivers side mirror blindspot
Is this all the way back, meaning towards or away from you ??? The further you are sat back then the less effective the mirror will be especially for the blind spot. I have checked my 55 plate estate (but not a scout) and the drivers side mirror has a solid line marking the curve, as @pikpilotsaid earlier.

E-bike
Thanks ... , I don't have a problem with throttle only bikes being legal as it is reasonably easy for a regular cyclist to pedal to that speed (15.5mph) anyway, even unassisted. Very easy with pedal assistance. I say F*** em anyway ......... ride what you like ......... BUT ride sensibly and with respect to others.

E-bike
@Gaz You know what they say mate ......... you learn summat new every day. I will have a read .... thanks Not sure what is involved with the meaning of 'requiring type approval' (since 2016) ????? Throttle control ‘Twist and gos’ – electric bikes manufactured with the capability of being powered by a throttle alone – have required type approval since January 2016. ‘Grandfather rights’ apply to ‘twist and go’ e-bikes prior to January 2016. (This is entirely separate to ‘walk assist mode’ throttles that power the bike to a 6kmh top limit i.e. walking speed, to help you push the bike along, which are not affected by this law update.)
-
E-bike
Yes, if it is, or can be ridden throttle only, then it is a motor bike, so requires insurance, Licence etc etc that's my belief anyway. I speak to lots of students that think their own E scooters are legal ....... I think not ........( fairly sure but i'm not 100%). I have asked the local (I think they were) PCSO's and they weren't at all sure but what they did say was that it was a Police matter and not something they themselves (the PCSO's) dealt with. I see lots of what I believe to be illegal bikes being ridden around Nottingham as well.

Ignition lock issue
I assumed this ^^^ would be familiar to most, if not all .......... but maybe not

Pre-facelift drivers side mirror blindspot
If that picture of yours is still showing 25% of the side of the car, then I would say something else seems amiss, unless your seat is reclined as if you are in the dentists chair, Lol. I have mine set to just see the side of my car and my mirror does not look to be pushed out as for as yours does. (assuming there's no difference between the normal Octy and the Scout)..

Ignition lock issue
Had my Mk2 for 12 years now and never had that happen...... let's hope it doesn't, now i've said that, Lol. Good luck to the Op to get it sorted.

help needed
Deffo need to arrange a test drive IMO However, I'm wondering if the EM (with you saying the EML is on) is restricting the revs, and this may remain a problem during any test drive. Ie, in limp mode ????

ONE sidelight issue / temperamental
Oh, and I got the grinder out and put slots in the airbox screw heads for ease of removal should the need arise.

ONE sidelight issue / temperamental
Update for anyone interested, and helpful parties ........ After finally managing to remove the airbox (made more difficult with rusted screw heads, before my work colleague said it can be removed without opening it up) And finding an allen key in my bike bag that fitted the removal bolt (as most of my tools and bits are at work) after searching for ages There is at least three earth bolts in the vicinity of E2 and none of these looked in bad condition at all. I still removed all three and cleaned them up. The cabling is too difficult to follow the earth as it is all wound with tape and plastic sleeving. The tape would be difficult to remove and recover properly and difficult anyway without removing the whole battery and holder assembly. I also wiggled all of the connectors that I could get a grip on, just in case. The bulb that was in already, still has the same issue, but another (different type but still led) bulb that I had tried previously as well ............. now seems to work ok. I'm hoping this at least gets the car through the mot ......... and then time will tell, I guess. Soooooo looking forward to getting something newer .............. here's hoping. Thanks for all the help and advice.

Help with a rear cycle carrier for an estate
It's the wide bars on an MTB that makes this difficult ............... my racer would go in quite easily. Certainly could not get my Scott Spark into my estate without removing the front wheel ......... As for my circa 25kg Scott Strike ........... not a chance, Lol.

Used Car Prices
Thought a little more on this and of course (I'm assuming) these online companies must be investment backed ............ So therefore it is investors stockpiling the supply and therefore interfering with supply. The demand probably hasn't gone up, rather that the supply has been stifled by said investors, via these online car sites, by simply hoarding cars. Crafty way of price fixing if you ask me .................

ONE sidelight issue / temperamental
@MikeTheThinker ............ Finally got into looking at this today and there is a long black ridged box right above said earthing points. (not sure if it is filter box) Has the big hose at the back of it. I was hoping to remove this box as otherwise, access to the earth points is too difficult,.even with the headlight removed. Blummin weather real pita atm. I remember removing this cover before, but this was years ago, and now some of the screw heads are buggered / rusted and I cannot undo them. Can this box be removed as a whole, ie, without getting inside it, and if so are there any complications, as I see a hose (or wiring ???) coming out from the underside. Any further advice gratefully received ............. and anyone else with advice on this. (For VWD ... I do not really do elec testing but cannot really see why the holder should have a fault as this is totally encased from the weather. Appreciate input tho.) The earth points are very vulnerable to the weather though so this makes sense at least.

Help with a rear cycle carrier for an estate
Yes, really don't think you will have a problem with the glass ......... Think how some of these tailgates get slammed shut, maybe some folk wishing someones head was in there, Lol.
