Vehicle tax class change
@Andrew2024 Were you made aware of the road tax situation when you purchased the car ???? Was the car taxed by the seller, on your behalf ???? If you weren't made aware of the cost of the road tax, well, if it were me I would be fuming and take it up with the seller....... By the sounds of it, it is going to cost you around a grand extra every three years so even if the car was a bargain ........... sorry, not trying to upset you. Yes, I'd be fuming. Good luck man, hope you can sort something.

Vehicle tax class change
Maybe a sensible idea for the Op @Andrew2024 to contact the DVLA if he hasn't already. Not read all of the link above yet but this may help - but replace Toyota with Skoda You need to get the certificate from Toyota GB for your exact car, and submit that to DVLA to get the CO2 corrected.

Eco mode / coasting in gear DSG
@Ootohere Don't the DSG's learn and adapt to an individuals driving style re accelerating and gear changes / revs??? Iirc I remember reading this was the case but seriously, Sport mode would red line mine every time (Ok, almost, Lol)

Power Feed for Dashcam
I use my mobile with a 64GB micro SD card in it. It is only an old (2016) galaxy A5 but it works great. Easy to crop the video to save but just delete it if I do not need to save anything, AND i have the video to hand should I need it immediately. I drilled the fitting into the roof lining on the (now sold) Octavia, just beside the glasses holder and it worked well. I have a (possibly) temporary fitting secured to my sun visor in my newer car (fitted through the clip holder) but again, it works great with good vision and as it is just below the roof line it is well out of the sun so will not overheat. I say possibly temporary as it may fly off if I crash though Lol........ Lets hope not, eh. ............. It is reasonably secure to be fair.

Recomendations for Breakdown cover.
@chills The AA have an emergency number that you can call even if not a member .... You would have to pay a premium for the recovery AND subscribe to their services though for the year. I don't currently have recovery set up as my Dealership / manufacturer cover has just recently ran out but I do have the AA emergency number in my phone for just in case in the meantime. Do you not get cover with the car or has it ran out ??? I do believe that LV / Britannia rescue get the best reviews of all iirc as I looked into this a few weeks ago. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/advice/running-costs/best-breakdown-cover/ 1. Eco mode / coasting in gear DSG
Maybe depends on the car or / and gearbox though G. With my Octavia MK2 6 speed wet clutch 2005 DSG the sport setting revved the nuts off the thing ...... The normal 'D' setting though was just fine for as if you started uphill it seemed to hold the gear a little longer as you press the accelerator a bit more. Maybe depends on the engine too if Diesel, with the different characteristics PD vs CR

changing tyres from 235 45 18 to 225 40 18. Is it a bad idea?
^^^ aside of the legal (illegal I believe) implications .............. Even if the tyre sizes mentioned have been mixed up by the OP ie 235 x 40 ............ vs .......... 225 x 45 ......... is still a circa 7mm difference in sidewall height.

changing tyres from 235 45 18 to 225 40 18. Is it a bad idea?
surely that will change the rolling circumference .......

Power Feed for Dashcam
This is news that I just had to check was correct information ......... Seems crazy to 'have' to declare it but yes, deemed a 'Mod', as you say. At least it will likely get your insurance premium reduced some.

Tyres problem
seems a lot of tread left for the mileage stated. Irrelevant though anyway. Were the tyres under-inflated when they were removed from the wheel??? What did the tyre fitter say may be the cause, or did you remove them yourself??? Have you had a garage check this out ????

DMF
Sometimes it's like pulling teeth trying to get an answer to a simple question, Lol. Very slow cranking could just be your battery me thinks. ??? ......... I could be wrong I was trying to save you money but as you are going ahead with it, lets hope it sorts your issue.

Battery ‘State of Charge’.
Which car??? Do you use 'Stop-Start ??? Assuming you are speaking of the 12v battery, it is very easy to get the state of the battery checked at (assuming) any local garage.

@wd20 I'm no mechanic ......... but has the car had any starting issues at all??? (My Octavia was 5 years older than yours with similar mileage to yours too.) I do not think I would be replacing it if it hadn't any starting issues, but only you know how much you trust your mechanic.- DMF
@wd20 If this helps at all ........ The DMF was replaced by the seller when I purchased my Octavia back in 2011 as it was showing signs of beginning to fail. (Rattling) The clutch was not done and the clutch showed no issues in the following 13 years that I owned it. I had NO issues with the starter motor either, in all that time. To be fair I didn't do lots of miles though, circa 4k to 5k annually.- Does On Board SIM Card Use 3G (The 3G Network is Being Shutdown Across Europe)?
I think you knew what you meant*, but just to clarify, 2G will be around for a good number of years yet but this only serves for basic calls and texts, nothing more. 3G in the UK has now fully gone, I believe. I use 2G for calls rather than 4G as I get a full signal with 2G whereas only a very low signal on 4G and a tendency to drop if I move further into the house. I do live right on the outskirts though. And 4G gives me a better dBm figure than LTE gives me.- Eco mode / coasting in gear DSG
Different car altogether but I drive in Sport Individual mode all the time now.......... The car used to be in Standard mode and I have seen no noticeable difference in MPG. There is quite a difference in how the car responds / behaves though, with better engine braking and sensible throttle response. It behaves like a 'Normal' car now, it actually 'Goes' when I press the 'Go' pedal, Lol.- Hello From Downunder Australia!
G'day from Upover UK ...... I do not recall ever seeing an Octavia in Red ............ Bonzer mate ....... Possibly not the best word to use, Trolling ......... Unless you have been, Lol.- New to me MK2 Purchase
My only concern with the worth of the warranty would be the lead time of the garage ............ Seems a lot of Major garages have quite long lead times ...... I couldn't get my 1 series in for about 3 weeks and then they wanted me to leave it with them for who knew how long, so I decided to take it to my usual local that I have used for years. Luckily nothing serious though. - DMF
