Authenticator Apps ???
Aah but......... I don't keep my phone connected. It's on 2G most of the time ..... I only put it to 4G and Data on if I need to put a pic on here or for online banking. I do not use my phone online for anything else. Laptop for all other online stuff, emails etc, Lol. This is why I am reluctant to use it for anything to do with work ... I do use 2FA for some purchases Paypal etc, but simple text codes to my other phone that doesn't leave the house. Thanks again though for input. ( @Lee01 my emoji worked, ......... Lol)

Authenticator Apps ???
A little info first about my situation and then a couple of (maybe numpty) questions for anyone that doesn't mind. Thank you. I use works tablet but only have my own mobile, no work phone. Work want me to have access to an Authenticator app (which I may put on my phone if I have to (begrudgingly). This is for access to any work emails and to have 2FA....... I will only access work emails on the tablet (NOT on my phone) Does the App have to be on my phone (rather than the tablet) (i think this has to be a ... yes???) Anyone use one and recommend it ??? Will they all do what is needed irrespective of which App I choose, or might I need a specific one ie Googul or Msoft ??? If I have to put the App on my phone then I want it least intrusive and least data collection. Aegis seems sensible choice? Thank you.

Mrs Gaz has decided she wants a new (to her) car
Not sure about the Merc's 7G DCT gearbox but would expect it to be smooth with a dual clutch system. Could be different matter if this is a dry system though. Not sure. My Octy 6 speed DSG wet worked faultlessly for the almost thirteen years that I owned it (as mentioned before, (I never serviced it either, just sayin, Lol) The 1 series with the Steptronic is beautifully smooth double clutch, no issues 1st to 2nd gear or any at all. Lovely car ........ (bar the road noise, as I mentioned elsewhere and as @Ootohere did warn me about.....) @Gaz I wouldn't expect a 1.6L to be a particularly firm ride, but obvs a test drive is a must for as many miles as you can get away with, Lol. I didn't test drive mine properly but love most of it except the OTT road noise on rough surfaces, especially considering how young it is. I am also considering a swap mostly due to this but also decided to take the state of our roads into consideration ........... A tractor is a bit slow but you catch my drift.......... Lol, as I cannot see much improvements and our roads just get busier and busier.... Good luck in finding what she likes.

the truth about electric cars
@Luckypants Thanks for the information bud. Fairly sure they will be looking at new 2025 model. It is funny situation as the last time they visited (late last year) we had, shall we say a little disagreement (me and mum's fella) He was adamant he wouldn't entertain having an EV as the bloke that sold him the CRV told him that the batteries on EV's only last between 3 to 5 years. I told him that was crap and the salesman probably only told him that so that he would purchase the CRV. (The dealership probably didn't have any EV's to sell either). I told him 10 to 12 years ....... He didn't believe me. He has used L-ion battery power tools for a long time now ffs My L-ion Makita is still going after 15 years, albeit a bit tired now. And a quick google search would have put him right if he navigated around the one that was obviously on about the 12v batteries. Good luck to them now though, I'm sure they will love their decision. Thanks again.

the truth about electric cars
@Luckypants Hope you don't mind me asking but do you rate your ID.4 ...... ??? I ask, as my mum and her husband are looking at swapping their Honda CRV. 8 years owned from new, and they are looking at the ID.4. I had seen pics of the 2025 Enyaq and thought it looks pretty good, and he has mentioned that he thinks Skoda's are good ..... (though that is based only on that his friend has an Octavia and rates it, bless him, Lol). So yes, thoughts appreciated, if you don't mind.

My Skoda Octavia Mk2 Estate will not unlock any doors using Key phob or Key in the door !
My Octy sold ow so it's a long time since I used to start my Octavia mk2 estate engine (on the driveway) and lock the car with the spare key in the door, to let engine warm a little, but iirc anticlockwise locks it, does it not??? On inserting key in drivers door, this will be a mechanical action lock / unlock rather than electrical .... (on just the drivers door with single twist of the key) It would take a double twist of the key to activate the central locking iirc.

Software update - warning
From experience with updates of different kinds ..... If the car is working fine I will not install any updates. Maybe ignorance on my part but cannot see the need. I understand map updates for instance and I'm sure there are reasons for some others but as said, if the car is working fine then I cannot see the need. Years ago I allowed an update on my TomTom G0520 and all it did was remove the camera locations .............. Thanks for that.

2023 Karoq, Selling after 10 months.
Ouch .......... I thought the £300+ was extortionate when I had my Audi. When are prices going to stop going UP ???? Probably NEVER ............

2023 Karoq, Selling after 10 months.
In a similar boat with my 1 series but for different reasons....... Always preferred larger cars but the 1 series was a reasonably sensible choice as I do not need a particularly big car. And I quite like most of the car, it has a nice interior and the engine is fine for me,and apart from the Steptronic being opposite (+ & -) to my previous DSG by way of changing gear manually, and that I used the DSG for 13 years, I do like the Steptronic. Oh, but the road noise. On all but smooth surfaces it is intrusive IMO. For a supposedly premium car, I would have expected better sound insulation. When I purchased the car Dec 2023 I did think it possible I may still have it in ten years or so, but due only to the road noise I am seriously considering what I can replace it with........ Sad really. Root did try to warn me but I didn't think it would be so bothersome. I do miss my Audi A4 2.0T

2024 Mk3.5 2.0TSi L&K or 2024 Mk4 1.5eTSi SEL ?
As a dealer, can they not sort the paint ???? Have they offered ???? If it is not a deal breaker anyway, then no worries.

- Steering wheel not centred, what next?
I'm no expert on the subject but I firmly believe that to carry out alignment / tracking of a vehicles wheels then the steering wheel should firstly be 'centred' and fixed / locked in place, and then the aligning adjustments done on the four wheels.......... @Netman .... F1 by any chance???- Shut out.
Because it is still locked via the central locking ....- Errors - is my car gaslighting me?
Gremlins ............. Not the furry little buggers either, Lol. Put it down to that and carry on.- Basics: how to restart the engine after manually switching off?
@Snickthemapw If you have to press a button to open the vehicle then that is not really called 'keyless entry'. No worries tho eh....- Basics: how to restart the engine after manually switching off?
Would a Mk3 Fabia fob have a motion sensor in it ??? I'm assuming the car is not keyless entry ??? And that would be the only logic that the fob would have a motion sensor in it. I'm happy to be educated if i'm incorrect. If it has keyless entry, then okey dokey. @Snickthemapw You do not have to get out of the car to lock it with the fob, if you need to.- Gear changes
How many gears ???? I would have thought 5th gear at 40mph would be reasonable if you were just rolling along, no?- Twisted seatbelt
If you pull it all the way out you should be able to twist it back by rolling (almost folding) it over itself, and then let it retract. It should work. Fingers crossed for ya.- Oil Warning Message - Please Reduce Oil Level. Workshop!
Aye ...... You have to do it in a particular fashion. Drive a particular (minimum iirc) distance, with engine running iirc, level ground (obvs) maybe one or other specifics and await while it does it's check, for a reading. Certainly not as simple as just lifting bonnet and pulling out dipstick eh, Lol.- Battery ‘State of Charge’.
Can you 'solar charge' an EFB/AGM battery ?????? https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/143846/my-car-has-a-stop-start-feature-can-i-use-a-solar-charger-on-the-battery- I regularly used a 4 watt solar charger in my old Octy, what with it being a (DPF free) diesel and not doing long journeys. Doesn't really charge the battery as such more that it prevented it losing charge by covering it's parasitic drain.- Oil Warning Message - Please Reduce Oil Level. Workshop!
@Warrior193 Yes, onboard diagnostic ...... it's a bit of a faff to check though. I will probably have to look at the manual every time I want to check oil level, I think. I checked mine not all that long ago after a bit of a scare re exhaust smoke ...... (seems it is just water vapours local trusted mechanic 100% convinced) but I cannot remember how to do it now. Not worried about it but why no dipstick anymore ......... who knows.- Oil Warning Message - Please Reduce Oil Level. Workshop!
Alright for some ........... I ain't got one, Talk about penny pinching, Lol ......... - Steering wheel not centred, what next?
