  1. Walk away. The price is in the correct range, but with no history you know not what it has had done, maybe oil changed twice ? cambelt and water pump ? That alone will add £500 to your initial £3k You know you might get £200 knocked off for no history, then on your drive home the cam belt goes. That is one EXPENSIVE Discount Take care National
  2. Quote George "Charges for Management Services rises in Sewage, Water, Electricity charges, Rules on the Movement or Removal of Vans on their Site, Insurance, Whole Week Letting Only, Safety Checks. Annual Inspections etc etc" This is the biggy Most sites will not allow sub letting Most sites insist vans over five years old are removed, and GUESS what ONLY they can remove them, and at a sale price to you that THEY decide Reade the small print before you make a decision or part with any cash The thrill of a nice new eight berth home for pennies compared to a cottage tends to give Rose Tinted Spectacles National
  3. I could have half accepted it IF I had any doubts about my lifestyle, Only seriously I have never had a run in with anyone in my life There is no obvious reason I was attacked The only wrong thing I can see, is I am the only person in the street who wears a collar and tie, and the guy at the end of the street got busted for running a Cannabis farm, so possibly he thought it must have been me who grassed him up IT WAS NOT I did not even know about it, Until the big raid It could have been anyone, wrong colour car, English in Scotland, but never had a problem in my small town in forty years Just put it down to it happened get over it, and I have my great car back eventually, and in even better nick even if my premiums go up Witch they will National aka Jimbo
  4. I got the floods because it is pitch black after midnight, as the street lights go off (saves the council money as NO ONE WALKS HOME AT NIGHT DO THEY? ) I think I may cut the floods and wire the PIR to a buzzer next to my computer, as I am nearly always here to the small hours, so I will see on the camera, and pop out to teach them how to play pool or snooker which ever one they want educated in Rallye Green would be a big problem as I live in a Rangers area :-) (Ignorance is bliss, when I arrived up here from the North East, my first day at work, they said are you Blue or Green, I said no I am Pink man the same as everyone else :-) National aka Jimbo
  5. Thank you all, all advice taken Today I toured paint and or body shops, for private repair, cheapest back street garage £1700 dearest £2500 Insurance RAC has authorised full repair, that is good news anyway The garage has to smash the windscreen to spray the posts ? plus they strip the body completely, so he says there will be no tape or overspray markings I am going to chance my arm and ask if he will do my delaminated spoiler :-) Bad news is the Garage doing the work, closes on Friday for two weeks holidays (Fair Fortnight) so will commence the work 20 Aug Outcome I am getting my brilliant car back, It will be on my drive for three weeks so Mr Angry has time to come back and take his frustrations out Pool Cue and camera purchased along with PIR Security floods Once again thank you all for your support and help at this time National aka Jimbo
  6. My first VRS Was early yellow, I loved it, but changed for the Blue SE I love the SE leather and that, but miss the yellow, I could not work it out but I think it had been chipped, and did the Nuremburgring, from paperwork found in the boot after buying National
  7. Well I had the plod this morning, but as I do not know anyone (retired and no social life as such) could not help, Only speculation on culprit However tonight suspected culprit returned to the scene at 00.15 He walked to my drive, and then the milkman arrived and it put my security light on, so he walked away (I was available with my pool cue) Ten minutes later his missus walked out of the house in a towel dressing gown and not much else, but set a big firework off ? Five minutes later she did the same At fifteen minutes she walked from the front of the house they had supposedly vacated and walked around to the back entrance Thirty minutes later he came out and walked across to my drive, but then got in one of his four cars and drove off Tomorrow (today) I have the insurance assessor and I am dreading the outcome as I have kept the car in tip top condition, new, brake discs and pads, always full service on time new Rad and header tank, new cam belt and metal impeller, new battery, drop links always hand washed from new, and always used shell plus from new I do not know how to go about keeping the car if they declare it a write off Can I withdraw the claim? If written off can I buy the car back? and go private for the work ? Can I withdraw the claim and, just ride about with what is cosmetic damage ? The Plod were good but could do nothing on speculation, they offered a call by CID to my drug farm suspect, but I declined the offer, best to let sleeping dogs lie at least he will feel happy and hopefully not do it again, If the had a visit then he may/would come again The insurance are to phone me today (Monday) and advise, and I have been told to ask any questions I wish, but I do not feel comfortable declaring my hand before the result I am fully comp insurance with the RAC and the policy states identical replacement, There is a NEAR replacement available in Manchester apart from double the mileage ie 110k miles and £7449 (mine is 5766 miles and I have the vandalism cover for no claims bonus I honestly feel if push came to shove, I could do the work myself, only I am unsure about the sparkly paint bit, I have in the past managed plain blue on my old bangers Thank you for all your support National aka Jimbo
  8. Thank you for your support and comments people The car is insured Fully Comp apart from the £350 excess Police involved, but nothing to go on, they called on all the neighbours Worried about the write off bit, as the SE is my pride and joy including the seat number 028 means something to me Once again thanks National aka Jimbo
  9. I drove from Scotland Fife, To Huddersfield for mine, no problem, a good day out and a great car at the end of it for a superb drive home National
  10. I have never ever hurt a fly I thought I had no enemies I have lived in my street for over 40 years This morning I awoke to find my Fabia 07 SE VRS covered on every panel, with some sort of liquid that has removed the paint down to the metal including the tyres and alloy's I do not know where I stand with insurance for vandalism, the last time over six years ago was a hit and run, but cost me dear insurance wise as a no fault but unable to claim as no witnesses, Same today I have honestly never crossed anyone, but it was definitely targeted as only car in the street and on my drive I thought I had no enemies, I have worked in the roughest pubs in Scotland, and even murderers were kind to me All I have is SPECULATION, one of the guys in the street was raided by the Police for a cannabis farm, he left the street last night, He reckons I am a bit posh compared to the rest, with the newest car, I helped him many times with his Alfa Romeo's but even with the help just grunted thanks or do not bother mate I feel so sick, my pride and joy is ruined, can not afford a non insurance claim ,My last was a hit and run on my VRS six years ago, I could not even eat tonight, I feel so sick I am 66 and this was my retirement present to myself :-( National
  11. I have the same vrs se 07 56k miles and it was the Radiator £108 plus VAT Labour 1.5 hours plus coolant £238 I have since found out it is the plastic to metal tubes failed :-( National
  12. Hang on in with the NHS, It is a serious operation, a private dentist may remove them but not with the CTscan results which will cause you serious injury National
  13. Just had to get a new Rad on my 07 VRS so rusty you can poke your fingers through, (£238) National
  14. New header tank, about £12 easily fitted by self National
  15. Oh well it had to happen some time, great car Yesterday temperature alarm came on, checked header tank, Level well below MIN Topped up fluid to MAX drove two miles, alarm on, Header tank below MIN I took her to my specialist and gloom Radiator is rusted like a sieve, so much in fact you can poke your finger through it Not road chips as I retired last year and she is only used on slow trips to the shops once a week :-( (Which brings me on to INSURANCE ROBBERS, Advised reduced annual mileage from 25k to 3k, Insurance increased 20% as only leisure driving now not commuting ??? Apparently it is more of a risk driving in the afternoon for an hour than commuting in heavy traffic daily for three hours at peak times ??) Pick her up in the morning with new Rad fitted, (£237 radiator, fluid and labour + VAT) Having said all this only problem I have had since new is the header tank sensor, going faulty, new header tank £10, everything else OK Touch wood National
  16. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/227335-replacing-the-battery-on-a-late-mark-1-fabia-vrs/page__hl__%2Bbattery+%2Bremoval How to remove battery from Fabia VRS SE Why,? I spent hours today with no clue how to get the battery out to charge it, no one to jump start Ended up with a long extension lead across the pavemet along the street, Next arranged with dealer for replacement battery and all the cost for Dealer and fitting With access to this thread, I could have DMS and saved half the money National aka Jimbo
  17. And that is where YOU are lucky, you rent your home If you were a fool and tried to go it alone and BUY a home, then when the crunch comes, You do not get HB, You have to sell the car, as you get nothing You hope the sale of the car will cover you until you get a job in a couple of months, Nope that does not happen, So it is UP FOR SALE notice on your home You can not move into rented accomodation with help as, you have ASSETS ie your house When/If you sell your home, No benefits as you have CASH, When you are down to your last £2k then you can apply for benefits, and may even get the offer of a bed n breakfast accomodation in some slum hotel for your family of four You are right what you say about selling YOUR car, the cash you got would just be taken to pay the rent again for two months, then back on benefits Meanwhile in my employment I gave ALUGINE MAGHRIANITLY And her nine children, a lump sum of £29k, and weekly payments of £1200, the council moved out three sitting tennants and knocked their houses into ONE for Alugine, rent free HB Next Alugine is on the phone to me saying that here new Range Rover Discovery was not big enough to do the school run and what was I going to do about it I suggested she sold the RRD and hired a mini bus I was suspended that afternoon without pay, and two weeks later, stoppage of seniority, and reduced pension rights You are doing your best by trying to work, but like all people on benefit EXPECT everything to carry on as if nothing had happened No doubt you feel the same way towards those who have never worked, yet have better than you, ie THE FULL SKY PACKAGE, THE PLASMA TV etc National
  18. Abu Hamza al-Masri LAWYERS missed that trick National
  19. DVLA do not employ IT, They use FUJI for that as do all Gov departments Sorry double post but an addition I started the IT side of life in 82, when it was God like Fortunatley I retired from it in April this year To be honest What was once a secret special career, now most twelve year olds can sort the basic software, and as for repairs a new system is cheaper than a repair on the home side of things Major companies well yes it is different whole network systems, but they are affaite of the glut of engineers available and thus Salaries reflect it, consequently shop assistants can earn more in the right shop I ended up with Goverment work, They want more as do your employer In the end my non skilled labourer friend in a local factory was on double my SKILLED salary in IT Believe it or not one of the better network jobs is with Gaming companies, have you been in a pub or betting office, and noticed all those roulette games, Well yep they are on a Network ALONG with the payout systems and printers They are needing people only look before you leap (I have worked this too) the money is good, and company car, but a lot of travelling and late nights National
  20. DVLA do not employ IT, They use FUJI for that as do all Gov departments National
  21. Too late now, but I took it that the car had had an oil change within service limits, so within a year So to me under a year or as he states 10k and 1.5k to get home would be fine for oil As a non mechanic I must be more specific with any advice I give in future Lesson learned National
  22. Un sure of the Superb, As advised service comes up either, when the miles are done or the time since service Interval Sometimes the garage does not reset it correctly The whistle is on Turbo cars, it is the Turbo spooling up, you only normally hear it when in an enclosed area ie through a tunnel, or with walls either side, as in narrow street or garage, especially with the windows down. It comes on when you increase the revs, once revs reached it quietens down (you have probably never noticed it before) Enjoy the rest of your hols and relax it will be OK, Personally if I had not done 10k with the oil I would leave it as is (I am NOT a mechanic) Regards National
  23. Just gone throught the same :-) with the same people Initial discussion on phone, "That is fine sir, all sorted will get letter out to you soonest" Me "Excuse me but would you like to know Who I actually am, you know name DOB and where I was employed etc" So we cleared that up and after ten days NOTHING IN THE POST Called again Did not ask my name or any security questions, and again advised all would be sorted by Friday and I would get a payment on the Moday Again asked if they wanted to know who was actually calling This went on and on until I finally got an IFA , paid him to do it and got my pension three months later than it should have been Fortunately I own my own home, and have few bills, but I do have capital to tide me over I dread to think the damage that could be done to someone who relies on this pension from one week working to retired the next with no income for three months National
  24. Well my insurance is due in a week On Friday I retired, So no longer commute at busy times and lots of traffic, reduced my mileage from 24k to 4k a year, no longer any penalty points or claims, consequetly changed from leisure and commute to leisure only Confidently phoned up to renew and advised of the changes I wanted to make :-) :-( £20 to make the change and increased insurance by £39 a year, as more dangerous leisure driving during the day than commuting at peak times ? Compare sites are £100 less than this insurer, which I advised them of, Reply there is no way that is possible and we would not compete. Advised then I would not renew and would go elsewhere Next problem the new insurers want proof of no claims Phoned old insurer back asking for this as on the renewal For NCD it is blank and it says phone for NCD They want £23 for a NCD notice to be sent out All this on 0845 numbers too Is there any other way national data base or something I can attain this information ? National
  25. I despair really Last week pulled up to the pumps behind a driving school car The instructor got out with the female learner They then eventually found the lever in the car to open the fuel cap Instructed how to open and put the fuel in Filled up Then the instructor and learner got back into the car and the Instructor, leaned over and searched the back seat for a bag eventually found the bag and spent FIVE minutes searching and found a purse, then went off to pay TEN minutes later still not back So after 15 minutes, I then had the opportunity to reverse back and move to the other side of the pump (only one island with VPower) Filled up and went in to pay, Paid, when the Instructor came out of the toilet with a bag of shopping from the garage and was looking for a credit card I left got back to the car and she was still not out of the forecourt or shop for that matter SOME INSTRUCTOR can one mention RED learners in FIFE Unable to get any fuel today in Dundee or Fife and I am on empty, I have to work next week Next door neighbour 75 years old does about six miles a week in his Clio Queued for half an hour thismorning to fill up and complained that he had to pay £27 as he usually only puts a fiver in As for tanker drivers what *******, all the rules and regulations but are now happy to do late deliveries, as the Gubernment have lifted the minimum driving hours for them to refill the empty stations Lots of money on overtime Err the rules are too dangerous to drive but when offered overtime are happy to break the rules as the Gubernment say OK you can drive as long as you want as long as we get the fuel out ? OK THATS FINE THEN One minute they are saying strike over conditions, the next with a wiff of overtime it is OK to drive over the EU Driving limitations That is OK THEN ? The only good thing, is with all the overtime the pumps will now be full, and all the ******* that panic bought will have more than enough and be unable to fill up anymore for weeks and I hopefully will get some fuel before Tuesday to return to work as a working vehicle National
