Okay cheers. I see that there are three bulb strengths listed : 100/150/200. Any preferences ?

Bulbs
Hi does anyone have recommendations for H7 headlight bulb upgrades for 2010 Octavia. I’ve found that if you go to extreme they tend not last to long ?

Padsm sticking with Bremno
Spoke to local GSF shop and all sorted. Picking up parts tomorrow. GSF offer good discount on online orders only.

Padsm sticking with Bremno
GSF lists two types. None of their PR code numbers match my service book ones. Looking closely at the fitment details it seems one has a wear marker the other Intergrated wear device

Lose rear calliper carriers Octavia.
Carrier bolts ( rear ) are stretch bolts. Suppose same for fronts ? Better tightening torque qualities. Are supposed be replaced every time but lock thread would help. Shouldn’t imagine that expensive

Padsm sticking with Bremno
I need to change my front discs and pads. I’ve measured the disc at 312 mm and as I’m sticking with Brembo parts they list two types of pad. Does anyone know the correct PR code for these ?

Rear Shock
Although I've already replaced the rear shocks and bump stops, I'm going to also replace the top mounts too. These seem to have a nylon bush insert which would probably suffer wear as the forces on it act an arc motion ?
-
Rear Shock
For accuracy sake when torquing up the rear shock, lower bolt, is it necessary (Haynes manual) to measure the distance between the Hub center and wheel arch dimensions first ? I presume this specification is due to the angular movement of the strut through its travel and torque on the bush ?

Brake disc upgrade, worth it?
Reminds me of when fitting harder pads on "Tarox" discs many years ago. Went back to OEM pads in the end. For normal driving OEM pads work fine as harder pads need more heat to work well. As previous post mentions Caliper/Pad upgrade preferred way. Restrictions are "Hydraulics" ie master cylinder ratio ?

Loud squeaking (whistling) braking noise in low speed
Brakes need a service ? Check disc thickness as there is a minimum limit. Check pad thickness and spring clip condition. Assemble with anti squeal grease ( I use copper grease). If calliper piston partially seizing then a bit more involved but still DIY

Catch 22
Finally sorted my car excessive noise and suspension issues. Both rear tyres were feathered / sawtooth wear. Could have changed these first but still had plenty of tread left. Still I wouldn’t have found rear wheel bearing wear, worn shocks, rear geometry alignment fault. Now as good as new.

Bearing
Did this job today. Yes the hub bolt was very difficult to remove. Still worth doing as fitted bearing was badly worn
-
Filter
Can any one recommend a mechanic or non main dealer garage who can do the cv engine diesel fuel filter change/ purge via the Vcds system. Essex based ?
-
Bearing
At last on onto my last job. I need to replace a rear wheel bearing. Are there any known pit falls in doing this job ? I have the correct spline tools to do it

Shocks
Suspension work completed. What a difference ! Now the other jobs

HELP! Rear brake pads
A quicker way to measure disc without removing the wheel is to make a Large “ C” shape out of say cardboard and then position it in between the alloy wheel and measure the disc width. Works well !
-
Filter
When changing the Fuel filter on the CR Diesel engines it seems the recommended way is to purge the new unit via a VCDS system. As the software is £ 200 plus makes it expensive. Is this essentially correct or I was thinking to arrange a auto electrician to do this part ?

Air Box
many thanks for the tips. As can be seen from my posts trying to do service / maintenance work myself this time around. I do have one more post but will do that separately. Just a comment, the new front shocks / top mounts have transformed the ride / feeling of the car which is a result.
-
Air Box
Not shown. I've read somewhere that they were not sold as a separate items you had to buy the whole air box unit. People bought second hand Air boxes to just get the screws. I've seen part no ( WHT002087) that might fit ?
-
Air Box
Some of my Air box securing screws are corroded badly now. Did try oem source but they different to those fitted on mine. Instead of bolt type mine are a 35 mm length shank which is 4 mm dia most of the length except a coarse thread at the end which is app 5 mm dia. Does anyone know a source for these

Disc
Okay cheers for that. I’ll save some work next time and leave the carrier ( knuckle ) part in place until sure disc loose. Not a lot of room to work in behind wheel etc
-
Disc
Disc rusted / stuck to hub. Not tried heat yet but did try forcing bolt through carrier bolt hole. Didn’t push it to much though
