  1. My car was in for service yesterday and I get a phone call from the service receptionist. Receptionist- I have been asked to phone you as the "technician" has alerted me to a safety critical issue with your car" Me- What is wrong R- Sir, your tyres have very little tread on them 4mm rear and 3mm front. Me- What do you sugest? (I knew exactly what my tread depths were) R- We can replace them and it will be £205 per tyre (WTF) Me- That is interesting but the legal minimum is 1.6mm and my rear tyres are less than 50% worn and fronts just over 50% worn, so why would that be a safety "critical" issue????? R- ummmm (end of phone cal). So, just another way for the unwary to pay top dollar (I can source contisport 5 for £125) for something they don't need, which is the same trick they try with brake pads. Definitely STEALERS!!!!!!
  2. My Black CR Vrs estate went in for it's 3rd and last free service at 30k miles yesterday and in the 14 months since new it has not put a foot wrong. When I picked my car up it was sitting next to a race blue Mk3 Vrs and the salesman took the opportunity to get me to change cars. So, I had a good look around and it was interesting to have them side by side but having compared the two I will not be changing. More BHP- I am happy with 170. Styling- Very nice but a huge amount of money to pay for the nice looking exhausts. Interior- It looks a bit snazzier. Value for money- erm no. No VAT free or other offers.
  3. I think I can comment on this topic as I have had both the petrol and diesel. I bought a new 11 plate petrol Vrs estate and ran it for 12 months but my annual mileage went fro 12K miles to over 20k Miles per year. I enjoyed the car and the engine was smooth, powerful and everything the petrol fans say it is. Average MPG over the year 36 MPG. I traded that in for a new 12 plate CR Vrs estate and it is now 14 months old and about to go in for its 30k mile service. I enjoy the car and it gets an average 50 MPG, however it is a different drive due to weight and engine characteristics etc. My opinion- These are 2 different cars and should be treated as such with each having there own good and bad points.
  4. I had a similar issue with a car i purchased for my wife. It was an 03 Shogun and came with a 3 month limited mileage warranty. The climate control packed up after 4 weeks, so I researched the Sale of Goods Act (see Honest John web-site) and phoned the dealer. They did not even quibble or use the warranty and took the car in and fixed it. SOGA is a very powerfull piece of legislation and would cover the brake and DMF issue.
  5. My Vrs is now 14 months old and the Contisport 2 have done 29500 miles so far but will be due a change in the next couple of months. While having a puncture fixed this week I was chatting to the owner of the company I used and asked about cheap tyres. He was very much of the opinion that "you get what you pay for" especially in wear rates and performance. Hence I will be replacing mine with Contisport 5.
  6. The running in does matter however I am not sure you have it right. The police Vrs we drive get heavy use from day one and use loads of oil. I ran mine in before the load pedal was fully used and I used 0.5 litres in 10k miles. Both petrol and FL models so it is a direct comparison.
  7. I have a CR Vrs and from new last May I have covered 28k miles, most of it on the motorway, which is ideal for the DPF. This week my wife has had my car and she does 12 miles each way to work and yesterday it did a regen. These cars and the DPF system is just not designed for short journeys.
  8. I bought a Shogun (03) for my wife recently (horse box towing) that had a full service history over its 90k miles with the service done every 9k miles. However all it means is a full service book and an oil/filter change as there is a service menu and it is up to the owner to choose some bits. So, has it had the anti freeze, brake fluid etc changed. Has an auto box or DSG had an oil change or even transfer box or dif oil. Unless you get a massive file of receipts or can get a dealer print of work carried out a "FSH" is not worth the paper it is written on.
  9. I was told today by Beadles Maidstone that the change for the belt on my CR Crs is 4 years or 60K miles. That is not what it says in the service book!!! Why do I feel I am being had over by SUK!!!!!!
  10. "The biggie though is my non working aircon is due to a compressor failure, currently on back order so could be a couple of weeks before they get one in, and apparently £750 to do. Is that a common problem?" Apparently it is a regular issue. My mate has had his go on his CR Vrs but luckily covered by a used Skoda warranty. It appears to be a real weak point.
  11. Contis on mine and I have just passed 26k since new last May. There is still about 3-4k left on them, however they were swapped at the 10 and 20 service so I will need to change all 4 at the same time. A friend of mine has a DSG version of the VRS, so same car and his fronts last 12k as he uses mostly A road (quickly) while I use motorways for most of my commute.
  12. A good friend of mine owns a Vrs that is over 3 years old but still within its 1 year used warranty. He went to use the climate control with A/C when the weather improved and no cold air. A trip to the dealer and 1 A/C unit required. So, what is the issue with the Octavia A/C unit as there seems to be a problem at about 3 years old. Is it poor design or cheap unit?
  13. High mileage user as at 12 months I have just passed 26000 miles
  14. A bit of advice I have a 12 plate VRS CR and looking at the service book it states that the "toothed belt" should be changed at 180000 km for engine code CEGA. Is the toothed belt the cam belt? Is the VRS CR engine the CEGA code? Having read a few posts on cam belt changes they say 4 years or 40000 miles or is this for a different engine? So what is the 180000 km (120000 miles) the book talks about? Confused.com
  15. I am so glad I said no to a DSG Vrs when I purchased my new one last year.
  16. I have 2 dogs, a cocker spaniel and a lab/retriever cross and they have plenty of room in my estate but I suspect they would have similar space in a hatch. However What I like most about my black estate is that it is a very good Q car and I remember one of the motoring magazines (Evo I think) doing an article on Q cars and the Vrs estate was included along with the Audi S4 Saloon, Insignia VRX Tourer, BMW 550i, Jaguar XJ Supersport.
  17. Black CR Vrs wagon new May 2012. Just turned 25k miles. No faults Just about to change first set of tyres. Q car which I like It can cruise all day at 130 kmh (across France and Holland)

    Why?

A good friend of mine parked his new Ford Galaxy at a sports club and went into the gym. Not just any space but as he had kids and wife he parked in a mother and baby "wide" space. Out he came about 2 hours later to find the rear offside bumper hanging off. Off he went to the sport centre and called the police, who arrived and asked to see the CCTV and watched as a lady in a Q7 parked in the space next to the Galaxy and managed to scrape the bumper on the way in and then immediately reversed out and ripped it off. The best bit--- she just parked in another empty space and wondered into the gym, completely ignoring the damage she had caused. The police called her out of the gym and she denied everything. Taken to court, points and a fine etc etc. My mates still not happy though. I think he wanted her publicly flogged.
  19. The miles you get from your tyres depends on the type of road you drive on. My friend and I bought our CR Vrs last May. We both have an annual mileage of around 25k but he drives on A roads around North Yorkshire while my mileage is mainly on the M2. My tyres are the originals on 23K miles and he is on his second set of fronts. Both have CS 2 at moment.
  20. I have just washed my black 2012 Vrs estate today as it was sunny down here and decided to give it a coat of polish. As usual I used Autoglym Super resin but I was no overly happy with the depth of finish on my car. Always used the stuff in the past but this is my first black car. Maybe I am being too picky. I was thinking of getting AG High definition wax to use as a base and then add AG Super resin. Comments or ideas from those of you into the detailing side of cars?
  21. 1) Every 10K (+oil filter) as on fixed service and that equates to every 4.5 months with my mileage 2) Every week 3) At least every week with a big clean inc polish etc every month or 2 depending on weather. 4) as above
  22. Has anyone used S-Line Automotive in Ashford Kent as I am looking for someone to service my car once the warranty runs out. I live near Canterbury and work in Gravesend so can anyone recommend a good independent Skoda garage who can be trusted and know what they are talking about?
  23. Is there a grinding noise when you brake? That would be a sign that you have a stone. If not it could be that with your low mileage that is causing the issue.
