  1. Same thing happened to me and I ended up with 2 new tyres across the axle for peace of mind. The cross climate has a specific feel and I wasn't willing to mess with the ballance. Strangely enough I went to V4S too. New ones on the back of course. The Goodyear has a winter lean compared to the summer lean of the Michelin so the "grippier" tyre should go on the back. Especially as it's new too.
  2. Thanks to those above for clearing that up. Like I said it was a few years ago (c~20) so my memory of the matter was not reliable.
  3. I think this is more accurate than my bad memory. Very probably just a note on the cert as it was many years ago it happened to me. Advice above is good. Just whip it out and they can't do anything. Sorry no I have no idea. See my response above for reference.
  4. Because if you had a spare and it was faulty it would be a failure. But not a requirement to have one in the first place. The rule of 'if it's fitted it needs to be roadworthy'. I assume that's the thinking behind if a can needs to be in date. Seems to be an accessory though so not needed to be in date.

  6. I don't like to derail discussions when I can help it...but. Have you thought about a noodle kit and inflator instead? Much less hassle getting the tyre replaced after an incident. Less mess. A bit more know how needed but plenty of vids online if needed. Otherwise I imagine any known product for canhohgunge would be fine.
  7. Not especially. The only time I feel it is in reverse (I think most cars reverse is a slightly higher gear than 1). So I simply jab the pedal a few times instead of press and hold. As the clutch is already engaged on the hybrid there is no slipping to deal with and it pulls away smoothly. The rest of the time it's just a nicer response.
  8. The effects, yes. The feel, no.
  9. I'd say 500 in modern times is about right. Plenty reports of dealers quoting near double that but you'd be lucky to find somewhere to do it for must less.
  10. The way a diesel runs is with excess air. Then controlled via the amount of fuel added. It's a contributing factor into why they are more efficient as they actually burn all the fuel that is put through them. A modern petrol is controlled by both air and fuel. Adding more air will make the system see more via the MAF sensor and then add more fuel. Hence more power. For these reasons the intake mods that make more power on a petrol will not have anywhere near the same affect on a diesel.
  11. Glad you got that sorted. Finding a trusted place to take your car these days seems to be increasingly hard work. We have a local place that I used for some heavier stuff and they didn't do a great job. Perfect for MOTs though.
  12. Thanks. I knew it was something that way. If driven correctly it should offer some great economy. Maybe if that's a driver for getting this engine it would be worth doing some homework on it to know how and when to get the most from it.
  13. The 190 tsi is a different engine to the older 2.0s. it has a clever way of changing the combustion cycle (miller?) To make it more frugal. A bit like cylinder on demand some other engines use.
  14. Yep dq200 on that which is dry clutch system. Still has oil in the selection mechanism and can be serviced. Roottoot will be along with current recommendations. It's technically sealed for life but that really depends on how long you plan on keeping it and whether it's worth it to you to get it done.
  15. Do you have any idea how it was driven before you got it? I drive my sister in law's metro years ago and the clutch was shot but she was so used to it and never did more than short town trips it didn't bother her. It was 4 speed and I took it on the motorway and felt like it was in second at times. Had to be real gentle with it. That's the car I learned rev matching!
  16. Oh yeah that's what I meant. I just said a specific use case. I think only one can be android auto/carplay but both can make/receive calls and maybe have the option of media on either too. Last one needs confirmation.
  17. I think the 9.2 screen is part of the Columbus system. The only thing this would give that I would use is the ability to link 2 phones via Bluetooth. So you could have one doing maps and another able to receive calls. Useful for company car users. Oh yeah the bigger screen is nice too. Otherwise it's much of a muchness for my usage at least.
  18. Also sounds a little like normal behaviour but maybe exacerbated by needing a service? These boxes do hunt for as high a gear as possible and also some like to pull away in 2nd. Also seen reports of stop/start kicking in before becoming stationary. Not saying it should be like that but what you describe matches reports of others.
  19. I didn't think the 1.5 was that much different to the 1.4. What are people using as the interval? Mrs G's arona will need doing but it's only on a little over 20k so trying to find the most economical answer. My GTE will need doing too but that's a different subject.
  20. Looks like a lot of cracks though. I wouldn't want to drive on those.
  21. Hmm. Maybe sawtoothing on the tyre/s? If you are confident it's not the bearing or CV there's only a few more things it can be.
  22. Have you confirmed it's linked to car speed and not engine speed?
  23. Good tyres and less fuel should see a sub 5. Good work 👍
  24. If not give me a shout as I have a paddle wheel on my shelf that needs a home. Postage and a beer should cover it if interested.
