Remap thoughts please?
The effective leverage in high gears puts more load on the clutches. If you drop a gear then that leverage is reduced putting less load through the box. Also the same force output from the power source in a lower gear will give you more go.

Help with iV charging timer for off peak charging
The minimum charge will certainly be a part of the issue. If you don't need that feature then set it to 0%. I don't use the app as I wasn't getting any use from it. All my settings are entered in the car. Assuming it's the same as VW: There should be 2 buttons by the socket on the car. One for immediate charge (regardless of minimum level), which I use for when I need a quick juice mid day. Then the timer button for the times set in the car. You need to set the off peak charge time. Mine is 0030 to 0800. This covers the bulk of the charging on cheap then a bit of mains for preheat/cool. Then set the departure time so the car knows when to precondition the car for. Then you need to make sure the car can take precondition energy from either battery or mains depending on your preference. Also make sure the preconditioning is set up right as it's a separate sub menu. That should be everything. One thing to note is the granny cable isn't powerful enough to effectively precondition the car and charge at the same time.

Pedal box would also help with the pick-up. DSG should be fine as long as you don't give it too much in high gears. If you have paddles on the steering wheel just drop it down a gear when wanting more go to minimise the load on the clutches.

A question to the owners of the IV model
Dragon Green!! I wanted that colour but internal management declined. Not jealous at all!
- Superb iV intermittently not charging - faulty cable? App? Software? Car? Help!

Middle Seat Width
Sounds like you need a people carrier. We had a trip recently where my MIL asked if there was enough space to fit in our car between the kids. Short answer... No. 1 kids seat and 1 booster though instead of your 2 boosters. Have you looked at kids bench seats? There's a company that does a 3 seater modular thing that goes over a regular car back seat. Here

Any useful software change recommendations using OBD eleven?
There is a way to disable SS though. I did that and then reversed it when it came to sale time. Pretty sure that saved my battery from failure that a lot of SS batteries suffer with. Don't use the in built apps with OBDeleven though. You don't know what they are changing and the reverse function may not work if you have changed something else resulting in another thing breaking. One thing I did that made life much easier was to lower the speed at which the reverse beeper turned off when setting off. Also lowered the speed that high beam assist kicked in. Cornering fig lights to help see round corners.

Has anyone managed to extend the iV battery?
Would reducing the brake size help to be part of that weight saving? With the regen you rely on the mechanical brakes less. Add on some lighter wheels and tyres........

DSG or not to DSG?
@roottoot From here (I also read it in official vw docs way back when, though can't find that now) Quote "the DQ250 "primal DSG6" was further developed in to the DQ400e."
-
DSG or not to DSG?
Previous Octavia 2.0tdi was dsg. Current Passat GTE is based on the same dq250 box (with a bit extra for the electric bit) and both have been great.

I'm sure that millers is good stuff but I won't be using it. They need numbers to back up the octane claims and alarm bells ring when in 2 places on the same page they claim different increases.

USB
The power from the factory usb port is quite low. If it were me I'd connect what I needed to the car (music storage?) Then the other stuff to a 12v usb port either with a dedicated unit like this or the hub you describe.

Euro 4 to Euro 6 – upgrade my 08 Scout to a newer one?
Assuming the 08 scout is a PD engine. They are renowned for lasting. What else is likely to be a big bill? If happy with the motor and it's a bit loose why not have all the bushes changed. Shouldn't be too expensive and will go a long way to tighten things up. New shocks should also help and with the age and popularity you should get aftermarket parts quite cheap. Could even do some yourself if handy on a spanner to save a little. Has the rear diff and haldex been serviced regularly? If so then I'd be happy chucking a little cash at it to make it good again.

Parked car priority
Yeah I remember seeing that video too. @roottoot Is that a case of the town getting too big for the road network? See similar a lot round me.

Parked car priority
One comparison this person made: "it's the same as a stream of traffic coming from the right at a roundabout". I pointed out that it's nothing like that as that is the assumed priority already. On the hill front, I would always try to give way to anyone coming up as it's harder to start going again.
-
Parked car priority
Ok so its' not just me but also my thinking re the priority and line of traffic stands. Makes me feel better as the person I was discussing it with was quite aggressive about it. Thanks all.
-
Parked car priority
@varooom I was careful not to put right of way. HWC only discusses priority (apart from the section saying there is no right of way). In your example did you think about it at all and wonder whether someone should have held back? I just don't get the mentality that someone in front has gone so I can go. Is my thinking outdated or are people on the road getting more self absorbed?

Parked car priority
I think it's a well understood rule that if you have cars parked on your side of the road then oncoming vehicles have priority. But then if you have committed (i.e. before oncoming traffic has arrived on the scene) then you assume priority. If both arrive at the same time then you give way. That much is all clear and pretty well understood. I was having a discussion the other day regarding this and the other party was of the impression that if the side that should give way had a stream of vehicles coming through then they all have priority even when someone is waiting who normally would assume the priority. Example: 10 cars in a line with first 2 committed to passing parked cars. Another car arrives in the opposite direction but the line of cars all continue through even though 8 of the 10 are yet to commit. The way I see it is if you cant see that it is clear then you shouldn't go. Same as entering a yellow box with cars still in it. What if they stop? What are people views on this?

EVC Throttle Controller - Great upgrade
I have a DTUK Pedal Box on my Passat. Previously fitted to my Octavia and bought from a golf owner. I'd be surprised if a karoq unit didn't fit a superb.

Breakdown in France
The issue with getting it done under warranty is proving the fault as it only occurs at warmup under load. A dealer might not be willing to go through that process to prove it unfortunately. Best bet is to phone around and ask while explaining it's covered under warranty if proven faulty. But also be prepared to pay full price for the work if you can't get it proven. Then you'd be best shopping around independents for the best price. Forgot to respond to your mileage reply. 42k is right on the money for these failures. They tend to go between 40 and 60 I think.

Breakdown in France
2.0 TDI have common fault of sticky thermostat sleeve that is built into the pump. Only resolution is to replace the pump. It's usually cambelt driven so worth changing that at the same time. So sounds like the French dealer might have been on the money albeit on the cautionary side. I don't think anyone with those symptoms have had a head gasket failure but that doesn't mean it's fine. I'd guess a pressure test would solve that. Certainly cheaper than an actual replacement. How many miles has the car done and has it had a belt change ever?

need new infotainment sytem
It's the head unit. You'll need the part number from it (with the keys) to find a suitable new one. Contact @pab567 as he is the resident guru. May well be possible to fix the current unit.

Spare wheel issue
As above re wheel speed sensor. Also the diff will be going nuts, especially if you have a trick diff (not sure if they do on the 4x4?). I think the reason you are talking about with spares on the back of 4x4 is due to the diff. As the system on these cars is essentially on-demand-4x4, you won't have the same issue. Crack on with putting it on the rear.

Don't overlook the usual stuff
A little ashamed to admit that I have never cleaned the space a filter would go apart from a quick vacuum. What do you use to clean the filter housing? A spritz of Dettol or something a bit more involved?
