Dodgy USB Port
Yes should be simple. Take a look at Sasha's thread in the Octavia section. Should have everything you need.

Halfords - Tyres on the Drive - New Battery - Help !
The line about not trusting briskoda is warranted. A bunch of keyboard warriors giving advice on stuff they only know about because they once owned a Skoda 😀

Halfords - Tyres on the Drive - New Battery - Help !
The risk is that the car will think the old (presumably duff?) battery is still in the car. It will charge it accordingly. This could prematurely age the new one. Definitely get it coded. Either get something yourself (OBDeleven is best value) or look up on here where someone is local to you and pat them in beer/tea/biscuits.

Expert help required please
Check the tyre pressures before you set off anywhere too.

Underbody aero mods
For a bit of light reading have look HERE. I am interested in whether these parts are cross compatible with various MQB models. For those who haven't read the above: the headline is VW designing, but not fitting, underbody aero parts to stock cars. Part numbers are listed and tested on a MK7 golf. Improvements are noticed in sound reduction and suspected economy. I am making wild assumptions that my Passat GTE is similar enough to the Golf GTE and Superb that part should (might?) be compatible. My focus is on the exhaust tunnel and maybe the rear axle cover. Anyone else had a go with this stuff on a superb (or any other car)?

2018 1.6 manual greenline remap
Age old discussion about whether a remap will gain you economy. Short answer is it can of you drive carefully. If you use the extra power at all you will naturally burn through more fuel. A remap will make better use of the fuel but as they pretty much always gain you power this then uses more fuel.

2018 superb S spec screen upgrade
Actually looking at that pic it looks like you might not have the hole for a unit. A new part there would be needed too. Possibly not expensive but you are in the realms of pulling the car apart rather than unplugging bits.

2018 superb S spec screen upgrade
Anything is possible. Depends how much you want to spend and how much you are willing/able to pull the car apart. If OEM you'll need to get the cables to the glovebox so if all is there you'll need to split them and get the glovebox out to route it correctly. If you don't have all the right cables then you'll need to get those and do the routing. Most aftermarket systems should be able to make use of the buttons. If an android system then you should be able to custom code them. If you are the type of person to leave your phone screen as it comes then I'd say it's worth talking to a local car audio place as well as pab567 to get a better idea of what's involved.

2018 superb S spec screen upgrade
That looks like the most basic system (swing?) with the head unit in the dash. Can you confirm you don't have a unit in the glovebox? If you don't then it will probably be a better route to go aftermarket if you want carplay etc. If you have a unit in the glovebox then you should have a better route. Give @pab567 a shout. He is the guru with this stuff.

DAB option missing
Please excuse the obvious question. Did you press the screen where it says it's on FM as that's how you cycle through to DAB. I certainly found it hard to find it when I was new to the car but once I realised where to select it was fine. Again I apologise if you know this already and it's genuinely missing.

What do I need to retrofit MIB2?
Not entirely sure. Could be not having the right gear or knowledge. Or could be just a dealer policy. These things are generally coded at the factory and when a dealer replaces a part it will probably arrive at the dealership ready for installation to that specific car. That's my best guess anyway. If you do find a dealer that is willing to do the coding then let us all know as that could be useful information. Probably really expensive though. Then the smartlink (for carplay etc) will be another cost on top. Wouldn't surprise me if the coding alone was double or triple what pab567 charges.

What do I need to retrofit MIB2?
Not sure specifically but there will be a load of stuff on your car that won't work. Things like lights might misbehave for example.

What do I need to retrofit MIB2?
There is a wealth of knowledge on this in the forum and it's been asked quite recently. Try doing a search to find detailed info on part numbers but below is a chronological list of things to do. Take reading of current system (module F5 maybe). Fit new system and go to dealer for cp removal. Send readout above and/or old unit with the new unit to @pab567 for coding. Fit and enjoy. edit: dealer will not code it. They should do the CP removal though.

Interesting Service Quote?
So the dsg has never been done. To me that says one of two things (if it's 7speed): A) The dealer doesn't know the difference between we or dry 7 speed boxes. The dealers I've gone to treat all wet boxes the same with a service at 40k. ii) For one thing they do know what they are doing as the later 7 speeds are 80k miles. Still no harm in getting it done early as 55k isn't trivial and you said you wanted a clean slate.

Interesting Service Quote?
I retract my first reply. I should learn to pay attention to what the car is. Had it actually had a cambelt and rear diff it would have been a good deal. As per roots usually sound servicing advice. Find a good local indy and go that route.
-
Interesting Service Quote?
If that 800 genuinely includes DSG, haldex, cambelt and the various filters I would bite their arms off. Especially as you are getting a service "included" with the plan.

New tyres on the 4x4 superb
I think the main point is also to not mix tyre types at all. Putting a different type on (extreme weather, spare tyre, etc) is a temporary situation.

Fog lights
So did you actually turn them on? Or did you simply leave the light control in auto? I don't think fog lights are auto so your mate was probably seeing the cornering light.

Replacement shocks
Bilstein b6 or koni special actives are the usual upgrades. Bilstein b4 if wanting a more stock ride and lower cost.

Can SmartLink/CarPlay be activated
Yeah the SUK response on twitter is wrong. If it shows then you can have it.

Are the tyres 225/40 or 235/45 (Octavia or superb)? Thanks

Head unit change?
Yes looks like mib1 Amundsen. If going for aftermarket system then CP (component protection) shouldn't be an issue. 2 issues you'll come across that I can think of immediately: 1. Physical space for the Kenwood unit. There is limited space at the top of the hole as the channels for the vents slopes down. b) the Comms cables are currently routed to the glovebox as that is the where the main mib unit is. Possible to reroute but may need cable mods/extension. iii- many of the car systems are controlled/adjusted by the infotainment system. An aftermarket one may not pick up all the relevant bits through the canbus. The above contributes to why many on here go for mib2 upgrade. Parts aside, the relevant coding costs in the region of £300-350 for mib2 upgrade. Maybe a starting point would be to contact pab567 and ask what his cheapest solution would be. You may be surprised. Then recover some money back by selling the Kenwood?

New tyres on the 4x4 superb
The road temps at commuting times can easily be below the 7 Deg cutoff where regular tyres lose performance. I'll say it one last time, winter tyres are not snow tyres.

Last minute Octavia questions before I buy one!
1. Yes depending on head unit which also depends on how you approach no.2. 2. Not natively. Elegance should come with Amundsen which I think there is a plug-in for AA. Not worth it going on how a mate got on with one in his Audi. Worth a retrofit to mib2 though if willing to spend £600+ (sorry don't know how much in aus dollars). Android unit is definitely worth it if happy to tinker. 3. Sorry don't know. 4. Water pump fails as 40-60k miles. Cam belt needs to come off to change the pump so most choose to do the cam kit at the same time. If this belt hasn't been done then do it with the pump now to save failure down the line. How many miles/Km's has it done? If low mileage I'd question the reliability of the dpf. Should be in the 80k miles range for this to be ok. 5. This is the dq250 which needs oil change every 40k miles (60k Kms?). See mileage above. Should be on its second change based on the numbers above. 6. 4.9 converts to 48 mpg which it should get happily. Many report more. Certainly shouldn't get less. 7. If looked after you should be able to get it to 400k Kms. Maybe. With a tail wind. And a friendly mechanic. 8. Definitely possible to add stuff. Check out Sasha's thread. Loads of good stuff in there although she doesn't have that car any more so may not respond to questions.

Timing Belt problem - can't remove bolt
There's a Skoda specialist near me (forget the name) that I didn't like and the job I got them to do had mistakes. The service was also bad. Switch to a couple of different VW specialist and the experience is totally different. I agree that they should be the same but in (quite limited) experience this is not the case. I was probably unlucky.
