  1. I had a puncture repaired two weeks ago, then on Good Friday hit a pothole hidden under a puddle and destroyed nsf tyre...
  2. I had an ex-Management Rover once (don't ask). It had an extra... half a dozen condoms in the spare wheel bay.
  3. Oh poo. Well the Edition at my local dealer had Bridgestones on. Fingers crossed it's not Pirelli.
  4. Seen one in white in a queue near Nottingham (going the other way) and one in business grey on the M1 (going south as I was). Might see a black one this weekend.
  5. I use different Tesco stores all around the country and have my Kessy key in my pocket. Never had an issue yet.
  6. I've had both the Goodyear Eagle F1 and the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT on a Volvo S60. I really rate the Sport Maxx RT as grippy, quiet and resistant to aquaplaning. They just wear out too quickly.
  7. Did you know that Skoda named one of their cars after an obsolete music system? Octa = 8 Via = Road or track
  8. Dealer was kind enough to let me 'test' a Karoq again today with a view to seeing if it did 'bang' under fast accel and/or uneven road surface (it wasn't wet today). Basically, the Karoq doesn't do this anywhere near as badly as my Superb. It's still there slightly but far less of a 'bang' and not obtrusive at all. On pulling out of a junction under partial lock I could make the tyres skip but no bang - this definitely sets off a bang or two in the Superb. I'm beginning to think that there might be a fault with the Superb, although when I first had the car the supplying dealer had it up on the ramp but couldn't find anything wrong. Anyway, I'm much happier now and looking forward to taking delivery.
  9. I would have liked a 2.0 TSi 190, like in the Ateca. Having said that, the 1.5 I test drove wasn't too bad if a bit screamy when revved. In the end we decided that it's powerful enough for our 'family' car. (I suspect that a 2.0 TSi would also have been stupidly expensive compared to the 1.5 TSi, what with marketing, EU mandated CO2 targets, etc.)
  10. I was working with a car engine on the ramp once when the handbrake gave out and the car rolled forwards gently pushing me against the wall. Basically I was stuck between Karoq and a hard place.
  11. Should there be a less than or equal to, or greater than or equal to sign on one of those? As written, 97 could be lumped into either. In that case would 95 be in the same table as 97 and 98?
  12. Hi Juux, well your credentials do seem up to the job. Nice explaination thank you. It's true that more than one tank of fuel is required to achieve the benefits of higher octane fuels. As I say, my experience with 97 RON is dated now but I did check the consumption figures accurately (brim to brim) rather than relying on the car's computer. On those two cars 97 was no better than 95. But I haven't tried 97 in the Superb.
  13. I blame the Pirellis - bl**dy awful tyres in the cold/wet
  14. My overall average is 38 mpg on Tesco 99 (TSi 220 hatch). If VAG engine management is still the same as it used to be, then running 97 RON might be a waste of time. I haven't tried it on the Superb due to previous experience; on a Leon Cupra R and an Audi S6 2.3 5 cylinder the 95 and 97 octane performed the same (fuel consumption and perceived power), only 98 octane or better made a difference. I read somewhere that the cars I used to have were mapped for 98 octane and use a knock sensor to retard the ignition and/or modify the engine management map to suit the fuel. Anyone qualified care to comment? (Armchair experts need not apply :))
  15. Re: Superb banging noise - I agree with Gizmo's assessment. This was also confirmed by my local dealer and Skoda UK. But back to my original question. Has anyone experienced this issue in a Karoq?
  16. This happens in our Superb in the wet when pulling away, especially on uneven road surface and every time if accelerationg over a gap/expension joint in the road at low speed. The bang is caused by the engine rocking back suddenly to the limit inside the dogbone mount underneath the engine. It seems to be partly due to the choice of tyres. Anyone experience this in a Karoq?
  17. As per the title... What tyres are arriving at the moment - we are expecting to pick up over Easter. I don't think Michelin are making a Cross Climate in this size yet. So I'd also be interested in peeps experiences with 1.5 TSi front wheel drive cars and what tyres they have fitted. I'm hoping NOT to get Pirellis as I have P7's on my Superb and they are simply terrible in the wet but downright dangerous in the cold and wet.
  18. Yep, the 1.5 petrol is a really nice engine IMHO.
  19. Me too. We will now be a two Skoda family - Karoq + Superb.
  20. We just ordered an almost identical car + heated screen and Canton. Build week 10.
  21. I tried my p7's at 2.2 Bar today and they are still terrible in this cold/wet weather.
  22. The P7's are truly terrible in the cold/wet. They were OK-ish in the summer and I can't say too noisy but right now, when pulling away even under quite gentle acceleration, I get one or both wheels lose grip. And the 'bang' if you happen to accelerate over an expansion joint even in the dry is pretty disturbing. IMHO these tyres are not fit for purpose in Northern Europe. Then I remembered how I suffered back in 2007 with poor grip and noisy tyres in my new Volvo V50. Guess what? Pirelli P7's
  23. I'm also using the Prestone stuff (Costco rather than Screwfix) at 50/50 and I had exactly the same experience as TGR, i.e the headlamp washers worked but the windscreen washers didn't. This was after 20 miles driving to get to work on that frosty morning. I can only conclude that the heated bit of the washer nozzles isn't actually the heated version, isn't being switched on or doesn't work (faulty). As its both that didn't work, I don't think faulty. I dropped into a dealer who told me that 'there's no fault code'. Duh!
