  1. Hi , Take a look at your wiring Loom where it comes into the tailgate via a grommet, there has been a few incidents of the Loom fraying or wires breaking within the sleeve that can cause tail Gate Electric Problems. Hope this helps
  2. I would be suspicious that the battery has been unclamped for a reason , maybe the previous owner sold on the car with a inferior battery that would just about pass muster through an Auction , or going in for PX and could not be arsed re clamping the battery see if you can get another battery and reset the DTC (fault codes) and try the car again. The fact that the supplying Garage will only offer £60 towards a replacement kind of tells you the real calibre of the people who sold you the car in my opinion. As mentioned the Can bus systems on these vehicles are ultra sensitive to voltage drops and will throw a shed full of spurious fault codes up and once a replacement suitable battery is fitted they can all cleared down and get your new battery coded in as it tells the "ECU" that the charging regime can be changed to a new batteries capacity. Hope that you get it sorted - or throw the car back at them if you have no Joy with Battery.
  3. Further to yesterdays update, I inspected the car at home with a strong LED inspection Lamp, I also read Technicians comments and he stated the following. "Confirmed customer complaint when engine cold and found factory guidance relevant, Removed V belt to see if noise still present when vehicle is running without belt and confirmed noise still present, Engine is ea288EVO engine, carried out cambelt lubrication with special Lubricant G052172m2 as stated in guidance, refitted V Belt and confirmed fault has now been rectified and noise is no longer present" I can see that a New V belt has been fitted and that the Alternator pulley is New as well as what looks like a new Air conditioning Clutch pulley (all the bolts are shiny brand new), Nothing mentioned in the comments about replacing pulleys, they had the car in for 3 days so My only guess is that perhaps someone replaced the pulleys and the v belt and found noise still there - then followed the Factory Guidance for Cambelt Lubrication - something I have never heard mentioned before
  4. As promised an update to the squeaking noise from Drive Belt area, I collected my car today and the nice lady on reception said "All fixed" and the repair is done under the extended warranty. I was told by the receptionist that it was some "kind of grease" but she also mentioned waiting for parts to arrive so I opened the bonnet and started the engine up from cold on the forecourt to inspect and listen for any further squeaking. I noticed that the Alternator pulley has been changed and also it looks like a replacement A/C Compressor clutch as the bolts are all brand new down there as well. The car sounds as sweet as it should be and I test drove it for 20 miles to road test it and bed everything in. All good and the squeaking has now been rectified. I took out extended warranty /All in service plan last year and that has already been worth the money as I had the oil and filter changed a full "Health Check" where they look for some work to charge you for (Air conditioning check £145 for example). The car is only low mileage and has a full Skoda service History, last two services carried out by this dealership, so if the belt had shredded and destroyed the engine after me flagging up this squeaking noise then the Garage would have been liable for missing it on inspection, so in fairness they gave it a good going over as it was in both our interests to do so. Hope this helps anyone else who may have a similar, noise. Don't ignore noises in your drive belt area as on my previous Skoda I took the car to the main agents with a squeak that they tried to fob me off as "Normal Noise" I reminded them the car was under manufacturers warranty and left it with them .I also mentioned there was a TPI out regarding this noise. Few hrs later they had fitted a new cam belt which was obviously defective.
  5. How old is your Car Battery ? you can get a myriad of strange faults appearing when the voltage gets too shaky on these modern Can Bus systems, that would be my first port of call. Make sure you code the new battery into the car so it knows it has a New battery .
  6. Update on drive belt area squeak. I have had my sportline plus diesel estate in for its annual service , only done 22,600 miles, and a paltry 3,500 miles last year but it was all either longer journeys or towing my Caravan. I asked them to look at this noise coming from the Drivebelt /Cam Belt area and its been in the main agents since last thursday, I told them to listen for the squeak from a cold start so left it with them over the weekend. The Lady on Service desk rang to say they have ordered some parts for a "solution to this noise" when I pushed her for more details she said it,s some sort of special grease they use and if that makes the noise go away all is well? I will pick it up tomorrow and ask for more details from the workshop guys if I can speak to anyone. I asked the receptionist if there was a technical service bulletin out on this issue and she said there was and the "special Grease" is the first step in trying to resolve the issue (Im guessing as opposed to replacing the cam belt for example). Will keep you posted.
  7. Sorry once again for the slow reply , Had 3 bereavements in the family since I originally started this thread and a lot of time away from my PC, and home. I still have the 2022 Superb sport line plus 150 TDI and recently noticed an increase in the originally barely perceptible squeak from the pulley area. It only happens from a cold start and the last few frosty mornings have seen an increase in the sound , but only for a minute or two then it disappears. I am not sure whether it is a tensioner and I have returned to this thread to refresh my own memory. The car has had two more services at the local main agents , still at only 21,000 miles as I only use it for towing the caravan in the summer months and the odd longer journey to see the Grandchildren, (we have a petrol Suzuki S Cross for shorter journeys ,shopping trips to Gym etc as short Journeys kill DPF's on Diesels) I will pursue this elusive Squeak now that it has become more prominent and see what I can discover and get back to this post with an update.
  8. I had a similar fault and the car kept going into limp mode and In the end it was an ABS sensor, but then fault came back and I found a small nick in wiring to ABS sensor, repaired that and put a new wheel hub in( with magnetic ring). This cleared the fault for good. Also make sure you had the battery coded in because otherwise the charging will still be set up for an old battery which could prevent proper charging and again throw up faults. Hope you get it sorted (I also got a Glow plug light but it was the ABS Sensor in the end)
  9. I had to replace the wifes battery in her 2017 Seat the other day , I encountered the same problem then found out to set the adaptation(even for the new battery) I had to put in a security code 20103 (it will be the same code for all VAG cars I was told) it worked on mine using VCDS HEX-V2. Hope this helps anyone else scratching their head with this problem.
  10. I recently fitted two Michelin x climate tyres on the rear of my Sportline superb estate (front ones worn so fitters put old rear tyres on front and new on the rear. I thought I would have to stick with the original 235/40/19 which were £189 per side at COSTCO, they have the 245/40/19 tyres at £179 a side (for members only) Would the slightly different 245 tyres have to be notified to my insurance ? and maybe I could fit those on the front when I change them next. Car seems much quieter rolling along , less road noise but still get the crashing on these bloody Pot Holes that infest most of our roads now days.
  11. Hi try looking for genuine Ross tech Dealers, there is one in cornwall area. As for the location of the sensor I am not sure (not worked on one so far) as others say maybe get it mapped out, the whole system is a pain in the butt and is actually bolted onto a perfectly good engine that now has to deal with a heath robinson type emission control contraption as part of the climate green tree hugging scam https://www.ilexa.co.uk/diagnostic-tools/vag-com-vcds.html
  12. Lovely Cars, I just wonder have they made the cars kerb weight any lighter ? As a superb Sportline 150 BHP DSG TDI estate owner on a 22 plate I pondered recently over the last of the MK 3 L&K models that look a bargain , I even looked at a Kodiaq 5 seat SUV, but the boot space in my superb estate (dog crate in boot) allows me to load up the rear footwells with stuff and the back seats with the Caravan awning etc to keep the weight out of the caravan (swift CHALLENGER 580SE 1550 KG) . I thought it would be a bit too heavy for the bigger caravan but it towed like a dream to France and back and I got 34mpg towing on the way down to Dover brim to brim (not using the maxidot) and a bit less coming home but that was a lot more hill climbing coming back up North (quite literally up North and down south from where we live) I would like to see some reports from an owner of the new MK4 towing a bigger van, but thank you so much for your posts and photographs
  13. Basically you have not grasped the mechanisms of data harvesting, by giving your DOB you open yourself up to all kinds of targeted unsolicited sales pitches and most importantly Identity fraud. I spoke to FCA about this ,they agreed with me and wanted more information about the company to keep a watch on them. One loophole is to use an umbrella company to " process your data" and what does that " process" entail ? They never tell you it's just a purosely vague statement. The industry of Data being used as a comoddity is truly upon us and it is facilitated by guile to dupe the naieve Into giving up their privacy. Each to their own of course, but the big brother totalitarian state is being constructed all around us and most people are simply sleep walking into it. Thanks for All the interesting comments
  14. Plus once someone tells me a porky, I have to wonder if there is any credibility in them about everything else they say.
  15. It's a used car, and I guess you might call me " curious " when I suspect someone is blowing smoke up my bum. I despise Deception in any form , Just the way I Roll.
  16. Just for the record, I telephoned the FCA this morning and spoke with a compliance officer for about 20 minutes regarding the garage saying they required my Date of Birth to process the order for the car I am attempting to buy from them. this is the response I gave to the Garage after speaking with FCA Directly. "With regard to me being required to give you my date of birth as part of compliance by the FCA, I contacted the FCA this morning with regard to this and they told me that there is no requirement for me to impart my date of birth to you and they advised that your company is not fully regulated but that you offer your finance products under the umbrella of ITC Compliance LTD, so you do not need my date of birth or personal details to record and pass on to ITC Compliance to process this sale as there is no finance or brokering taking place , its a simple cash transaction for a car without any other products being sought , rather I Just pay the difference and take the car (FCA ,s words not mine) " I know ITC take over the financial brokering compliance for many retailers in the motor trade, but FCA advise there is no requirement by me to give my details for you to pass on to a third party (ITC) as I am not buying any financial products from you or them, so This transaction does not come under the umbrella of FCA compliance . I am well aware this is common practise to sell peoples data onward and I have already been the victim of my details ending up in the hands of cold callers and spammers hence my reluctance to give personal details that are not required, but often sought to sell on by other parties. I am awaiting a reply which as of yet is not forthcoming. The FCA Officer was rather interested in the enquirey and he didnt seem happy that they wanted my Date of birth quoting "FCA Compliance" as he said it had nothing to do with my transaction.
  17. strangely enough when they asked for my Date of Birth ,It rang alarm bells, and when, I queried why they needed it, I told them I was bringing my Passport and paper driving license with me , and they said I didnt need to bring them with me, which again I found strange as I will obviously be taking a test drive in the vehicle. The salesman said " we need your date of birth for our compliance system which is run by the FCA , we have to complete this to show that we treat all customers fairly, he said the information does not get shared with anyone else. (I have this in writing from them) I find this all very suspicious, given what happened to me after a new car purchase a few years ago , when within weeks I was bombarded with spam emails and unsolicited calls after giving information to a car salesman. I understand the compliance where they have to offer insurance and other services to a customer to "protect their asset" but I have had £5700 worth of "offers" presented to me on top of the cars price which I have already declined in writing , so they have a record of their "compliance offerings" being presented to me and also me declining to take them up. I read on the society of motor manufacturers site about the needs of compliance to make these offers to customers, but the garage have complied by offering me these ridiculous "extras" I suspect because they have not gleaned any commission from me declining the extras ,they are looking to sell my data on to some other third party. Interestingly enough there is a company that babysits the motor trade compliance for garages, and I suspect it may be them who are after my Date of birth to "process" my data (sell on the details). Date of birth is something that is used for precision identification , by the likes of NHS for instance . I suspect they are trying it on and intend to contact FCA this morning because this sounds like a data harvesting excercise. I
  18. I think I will give the FCA a call tomorrow , as I understand about money laundering rules etc but money is coming from my bank via transfer so a legitimate source, I understand they have to offer me finance etc , but If I decline any products at all I cannot see a logical reason why I have to give my DOB to a car salesman , it stinks of Data harvesting to me.
  19. looking to buy another skoda I told them I dont want finance, I dont want any extra car Gap insurance, Diamond brite treatments , Just want the car and pay the difference in cash. Salesman said he needs my Date of birth to get the order form completed ?? Sounds well dodgy to me - more likely they are using a company called Automotive compliance who babysit the garages FCA compliance and I suspect will sell my data onwards. I had this once before where a garage sold my details on and I was hounded by unsolicited calls and emails. I have not agreed to give it to them as Im suspicious this is a data selling scam. Anyone else had this experience buying from a main agents??
  20. YEAH SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST A BIT SLOW CATCHING ON TO WHAT LOOKS THE BUSINESS:)
  21. I started a post in 2019 about the same type of noise. I had the cambelt changed , but the "rotatating noise" from bottom of engine stayed ...long story short it was the oil /vac pump situated in the sump , nothing to worry about kept the car a few years and never missed a beat. Here is the original post thread I started. hope this helps
  22. sorry to hear of your troubles, I am interested and concerned as I have the same model and year. How many miles has your car done? Are the Garage repairing your car under warranty ?
  23. sorry I dont understand your Logic , I know about car dealers putting bread on the table -I owned my own Garage for 20 years, but the prices some Garages are offering PX wise are really low, and the definition of "unrealistic" has a broad meaning. By the way the Merc I was looking at was not £55k it was 55k mileage maybe a bit of confusion there The seller wanted £20 k for it with the mileage of 55 thousand miles on the clock I sold my car to another dealer and got £1500 more PX for it and he sold it on for £3k more all water under the bridge now anyway.
  24. Interesting story regarding the BMW 5 series, I eventually went for another sportline Plus estate DSG 22 plate and got a better PX plus the Sportline was a demonstrator with a price tag of £1500 cheaper than anywhere else, Been very happy with the DSG some 10 months into ownership, and it tows like a Dream, My caravan is 1500kg. I am tempted by a new Caravan but according to the "Towing Bible" on caravan forums I need a heavier car as the one I fancy is an 8ft wide one and max weight loaded of 1662 kg. My V5 DOCUMENT STATES MASS IN SERVICE OF 1693 kg which is almost 100% but not quite, though over the 85% figure all the caravanners like to quote. The guy at caravan dealers did a check and its legal to tow but would like some feed back from other superb diesel estate owners, (mines a 150BHP 2 WD) I looked at a 5 series BMW estate with a 3.0 Diesel engine, simply due to its higher kerb weight but the PX price was £8k less than I paid for the car 10 months ago and I have only done 3k in the sportline plus so thats not going to happen.. I recall a member on here quoting he towed a 1900kg with a 4x4 Superb estate 190bhp with no problems 1 would love to hear any other owner experiences regarding towing at 100% of the kerbweight including driver which is usually 78kg . Oh and Happy New Year everyone
  25. You can register and pay 7 euros for an hours worth of searching via your VIN Number on this site, it will give you all the build codes on your car. Maybe you have already found this site/ or bought the car, but for future refererance this is the place for all the intel on any skoda , including Technical Product Information/ repair information etc. https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do
