Glove Box
Mine is an early 2021 car, and the manual talks about having places to keep SD cards. But since MIB3 cards can't use SD cards that seems to be leftover from the MY20 manual. However when I open the glovebox 'door' I have three slots inside it which can hold pound coins or trolley tokens. I suppose these might also hold an SD card should it be needed. The pen holder is on the left hand side of the glovebox, with a spring clip above it (to hold a notepad I suppose). Chris PS: The small dropdown cubby hole by your right knee has a slot to hold a credit/debit card in too. And there are also card slots in the central 'jumbo box' of course. Chris

Skoda Karoq First Impressions
If your car was built 03-12 2020, then it is a MY21 car, as the model year runs from around August to July. Chris

Eco Driving Mode
VAG cars used to remember the driving mode that was last used, but when the fuel and emission tests were tightened up the cars were tested in their Drive mode. And this was then made the default mode whenever the engine was started... (perhaps to stop owners complaining that their car couldn't match the quoted figures as they always left their cars in Sport mode??) Interestingly I saw that WhatCar recently reported on how well cars met their advertised MPG figures, and the Skoda Karoq 1.5TSI was more economical than expected! True MPG: which cars beat their official figures – and which are farthest away? | What Car? Chris

A couple of questions if I may....
According to my manual, if you've chosen a service partner the car will tell them when it requires a service. They then contact you to schedule an appointment. So no, it doesn't just drive to them!! Chris
-
A couple of questions if I may....
As far as I am aware, you only need to nominate a Service Partner if you want to let the car book a service with them. And the Skoda Connect website doesn't seem to mention the registration number so presumably relies on the VIN to identify your car? Chris

"Take the wheel!"
Same for me Ken. My first DSG was a Golf Plus in 2011, when I was deliberating between a 2.0TDI manual or 1.6TDI DSG. (I was coming from a 2.0TDI Octavia so was a bit concerned about the drop in power, but was pleasantly surprised with the Golf Plus. Then when I swapped it for a Golf SV in 2015, diesels were getting to be bad news so I went for the 1.4TSI DSG rather than the 2.0TSI manual. Now VW have dropped the MPV-style higher cars, so the Karoq became the obvious replacement Chris

"Take the wheel!"
Correct... for that engine and trim. There were also 1525 SE 1.0TSIs which were all manual as that doesn't come with a DSG box. But the overall figures show more DSGs than manual still.

Paddle Gears, Umbrella and Cup holder
No, the removable torch was deleted from MY21 cars. I'm told it wasn't that powerful anyway, and I bought a USB rechargeable torch from Aldi as a replacement when they were on offer. Chris

"Take the wheel!"
Again from the DVLA figures, the commonest Karoq variant on the roads is the SE L 1.5TSI. Of those, 5849 are manual and 7216 DSG. So with a free choice owners are willing to spend more to buy the DSG equipped cars. And for the SE L 2.0TDI, 357 were the manual FWD, 642 were manual 4x4, and 726 DSG 4x4 cars.

Paddle Gears, Umbrella and Cup holder
I have the paddle shifts on my Sportline, but never find the need to use them. I think they are trim-specific, or optional. There is a small drop down flap under my passenger seat to hold the umbrella. It is missing from yours, or did the dealer just drop it in the boot? There have been many comments on the 'cup holders' which have been designed to hold a small drinks bottle still while you unscrew the lid. Other threads have identified conical coffee containers that fit, although it doesn't address my complaint that I can't sit a tin of sweets in the cupholders any more Chris PS: having looked at the current brochure, it only mentions the DSG paddles in conjunction with the heated steering wheels, so perhaps you need to add that option to get them?? Chris

"Take the wheel!"
Automation is coming! According to the DVLA, 52% of the UK's Karoqs have DSGs as owners realise the benefits of automatic gearboxes. And if an inattentive driver is coming towards me I'd be very happy if the Lane Assist on his car prompted him to take his eyes off his phone and return to his lane! Now if we could only get automatic indicators for BMWs Chris

"Take the wheel!"
Each to his own! I had it on my previous Golf SV back in 2014 and I find it useful and very sensitive to lane markings. It even picks up some near roadworks that have been painted over! The only time I turn it off is when roads are icy as it removes the feel of the slippery road. Chris

"Take the wheel!"
How old is your car Crookie? On my previous Golf SV, when you used lane assist on a straight motorway it gave a similar message if you were driving in a straight line for too long as it the steering wheel to move now and then. And if it didn't, it assumed you had taken your hands off the wheel. But on MY21 Karoqs I understand it uses capacitive sensors on the rim of the steering wheel to know when your hands were on the wheel. Car manufacturers obviously can't let drivers take their hands off the wheel and rely on the lane assist to steer the car yet! Chris

Happy driving! If you have the 'virtual cockpit' option you can leave the central display showing the radio stations, and have the map in the instrument panel. Otherwise I think you can display the active radio station in the analogue instrument panel and the map on the central display. Chris

4 Wheel drive
Nothing new there. I still remember being in a FIAT dealers with my parents in the 1980s, when he was insisting that the FIAT 124 was also FWD just like the FIAT 128 I was persuading them to buy. He only stopped when I showed him the prop shaft on the 124! Chris

Bosch AeroTwins
My factory fits were fine for 6 months in snow, rain or drizzle. But then started juddering as they swept across the windscreen a few weeks ago. I couldn't put it down to any particular part of the blade, and they didn't seem to have moved at all. It was after I'd washed the car a few days previously, but I'd done that before without any problem. And fitting the Bosch wipers (from Amazon) cured the problem completely. Chris

4 Wheel drive
You might find these articles interesting as well. ŠKODA 4×4: Your Best Bet in the Snow - ŠKODA Storyboard (skoda-storyboard.com) My understanding is that the rear wheels are only driven when the front ones lose traction, but even in last winter's snow I never detected mine being engaged. The car just drove over the snow and ice with no fuss whatsoever. Chris PS: According to this video: History of the Haldex AWD System - YouTube the Gen 1 Haldex fed 10% to 50% drive to the rear wheels as required. The Gen 2 fed 5% to 50%, and from the Gen 3 on it was 0% to 50%. So your salesman was a bit out of date Chris

Eco Mode
Yes so the real fuel economy gains will be down to restricting the acceleration, using higher gears (for DSGs) and restricting the power consumed by the air-con. Although I do find coasting very smooth and quieter Chris
-
Headlight on light
Exactly. Their making your car more visible to approaching traffic when hidden in deep shade! Chris
-
Eco Mode
Yes mine does that too (as did my previous Golf SV). And it also restricts your acceleration as an economy measure too. I've seen arguments that coasting down hills is no more efficient that letting the engine control the speed as when coasting the engine uses fuel to keep it ricking over, while when the engine is controlling the speed it is not injecting any fuel, but have never been able to prove it with consumption measurements either way. Chris

Bosch AeroTwins
The front wipers is the Bosch Aerotwin pack A864S (18"/45cm & 26"/65cm) or Aerotwin Plus (AP26U & A{P18U). I've just replaced my front ones with the A864S pack as after being fine for 6 monts ther originals suddenly started juddering. The new ones are fine. The rear wiper is a Bosch A331H (13"/33cm). Chris

Headlight on light
It's standard VW/SEAT/Skoda/Audi I'm afraid. If you have a satnav system you can set the map to change to night-time mode (ie dark) when the lights are on, and that makes it very obvious when the lights are on (either because the Auto setting has turned them on, or because you have turned the rotary switch. After driving VWs or Skodas for 22 years I'm used to it now! Chris
