  1. Full details about what you get are listed here: ŠKODA CONNECT (skoda-connect.com) The Skoda Connect app gives you similar features to the Volvo one by the sound of it, but not the remote starting as fat as I know. I have a WiFi hub in my Karoq, but you have to pay for an extra dataplan to power it, or use your mobile phone as a data connection. For your Kodiaq it may well depend on which infotainment system you have fitted, but the owner's manual may tell you more. Chris
  2. Not that I can find :( The topic came up last year when I was considering buying a Karoq but put off by the statement here ŠKODA SatNav updates | Lancashire & Greater Manchester | RRG ŠKODA (rrg-group.com) that Skoda only provide free updates for three years. But when I queried this on the forum, I was assured that in practice Skoda were still letting you download updated maps after the three years had expired. But now I see the Update Portal at Update portal (skoda-auto.com) only mentions the MIB2 systems, so it looks like the MIB1 systems are no longer being offered updates. Other threads on this forum have suggested that you can download the VW file instead (from Volkswagen Map Updates ) and use that one successfully? (See Amundsen MIB1 Map Update 2020-2021 - Page 2 - Skoda Audio, Electronics and Security - BRISKODA) Chris
  3. Does your dealer charge you for updating the maps? Skoda's Update Portal only mentions that if you have problems doing it then the dealer can do it for you, but it implies they will charge for the service. The 5 year limit seems to be linked to how long Skoda CZ will make the updated maps available on the website. So as long as the dealer can download them (presumably keeping a copy on their local server to transfer to your SD card) it will be their commercial decision as to how long they will provide the service and how much it will cost, IMHO. Chris
  4. This gets more confusing! A Karoq owner has just had this letter from Skoda Customer Support: Re: Karoq SE Drive – Dear Mr .......... Thank you for getting in contact with us. I have spoken with one of my colleagues who has confirmed that the map updates are done automatically to your Multi-Media Unit. This is because all new ŠKODAs come with 1 year free ŠKODA Connect Services. Once this has expired, you can either chose to renew your ŠKODA Connect Services, or not and have to do this manually. This would be done by downloading the map update onto a USBC stick; that would then be plugged in and manually uploaded onto the vehicle. These instructions will be updated for your make and model, once translated over from German to English. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Of course, should you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on the details below. Thank you for contacting ŠKODA UK. Kind regards So perhaps we will be able to manually update the maps after all??? Chris
  5. That is amazingly good news!! So they seem to be saying that by this autumn we will be able to download the updated maps (or perhaps November 2021 by the time they are published) and update our cars via the USB-C ports. My only concern is that several of us have already tried this and failed, so it suggests that the manual update didn't fail because the satnav couldn't read the files, but because we needed some kind of install file in the bundle? I do hope Jennifer-Louize has got her facts right! Perhaps worthwhile keeping her letter somewhere safe Chris
  6. Unfortunately that seems to be the standard response nowadays, since 'Who sold you that then?' doesn't work to well at a Skoda dealers! The car can pick up the speed limits in three ways I think. From the GPS position and the map, from online information about road works, and from the camera seeing a speed limit sign (if you have that option.) The last way also suffers from speed limit signs being obscured by trees, bushes and other traffic of course. My car will tell me that there is a 5 mph speed limit on entering a car park, then update it to 10 mph when it sees the speed limit sign. When I approach a road works on a duel carriageway it shows the 40 mph limit, but also does this when I am on the other carriageway opposite the road works with the normal 60 mph limit. When I am on a 30 mph road with 20 mph signs for a road joining it, it often picks up the 20 mph signs at the junction and tells me my road is also a 20 mph limit. There are some roads in Stafford which are 30, but the car suddenly shows a 45 mph limit (!) for no reason before switching back to 30. Other drivers have also reported this problem, and really all we can do is treat the speed limit reminders as advisory rather than gospel. Just be thankful that we are still driving our cars rather than computers! I have altered the car settings to give me a visual reminder if it thinks I am exceeding the current speed limit, but not an audible warning as that was getting too annoying! Chris
  7. Well my understanding is that the MIB3 system updates 'local' maps online whenever updates are released, and Customer Support tell me this means 'your country'. (Not known if this means the UK or England!) Certainly my map database jumped last week from v19:11 to v20:09, and I'd guess the delay was caused by my not using my car enough over the past few months so that the ignition was on long enough for the file to be downloaded earlier. I'm also told that if I plan a trip to France, say, it will check for updated maps that are relevant to the journey, and download them as well. (Hopefully when I'm still in the UK?) Why are they doing this? Well one of the major implications is that like all other VAG customers we will no longer be able to download free map updates for 5 years as we could with the MIB1 & 2 systems, and now will only be able to update our maps by subscribing to the Skoda Infotainment Online Service at 70€ a year. Chris
  8. Mine has them saying 'SKODA' on the ground when the door is opened! Don't think it was a MY21 change, but might have been restricted to Editions and Sportlines. Chris
  9. Mine is just as shown in DSL's post: The towing eye is a dark grey at the far righthand corner as shown above. (This is a spacesaver spare wheel so it might be in a different place for a full size spare.) Chris
  10. When I enter the Update Portal using my VIN, I'd expect it to use that data to realise I have a MY21 car (and so a MIB3) rather than just recognise it as a Karoq!! It's not rocket science to decode a Skoda VIN!! Chris
  11. My VW maps used to be updated every May and November or so, but I wouldn't trust the Skoda portal to be correct as it still tells me to update my MIB3 satnav with an SD card! And |I've been assured by Skoda Customer Support (for what that's worth!) that the online updates are issued whenever the maps in your country get updated. (But despite that, my maps are version 20.9 not 20.11 as some others have reported.) Chris
  12. Mine picks up roadworks without needing a map update. I think it knows about them from online warnings as mine told me a local road had roadworks before they started! And then tells me that the 40 mph limit on the other carriageway also applies to me when it doesn't! My favourite 'test' road to see if my maps are up to date used to be the A14 at Huntington. But I haven't been allowed to drive that way for a L O N G time! Chris
  13. Sounds interesting I've been concerned that my maps hadn't updated online yet, but wondered if that was due to my only being able to drive it for around 24 hours since November. (My Amundsen is also at Software v0270, but the navigation database was still 19.11 - the same as when it was built in October 2020.) But I thought I'd check the latest status and see that the nav database has now been updated in the background to 20.9! Funny that yours has gone to 20.11, but perhaps that will appear on mine in the next few months? Chris
  14. My early MY21 has the towing eye, but the plastic puller to remove the wheel bolt covers was missing! There's no strap to hold up the boot floor, and as the Sportline only has the rail and bag hooks on one side, there's no obvious place to secure it on the righthand side of the boot. But as there's little space around the spare wheel for anything but various tools and spare bulbs etc, I won't be lifting the boot floor that often anyway. Chris
  15. CJJE replied to yosser65's topic in Skoda Karoq
No it doesn't have the retractable parcel shelf - it has a rigid shelf which hinges up with the tailgate - or can be removed. The rear seat folds down, but does not slide, so the boot space can't be expanded like Karoqs with the VarioFlex seats. The front seats are very comfortable I find, but may not be to everyone's preference. It also has 19 inch Vega wheels, which some say they find uncomfortable, but as I opted for the DCC option mine are fine. I am a bit wary of kerbing them though as diamond-cut wheels are easily damaged. I much prefer the fully painted bumpers over the grey ones fitted to other Karoqs, but check out the full spec here: ŠKODA KAROQ SportLine | New 2020 Model | ŠKODA UK (skoda.co.uk) Chris

Yeh, well I'm down south and not allowed to come to play in the North yet! Normally I'd be planning a visit to The Trossachs this Spring, but who knows when I'll be let through the border!! Chris
  17. CJJE replied to paco's topic in Skoda Karoq
Mine has on occasion, but only when the weather was very cold (around freezing). Chris
  18. I see that according to Autocar: "Skoda Sales & Marketing boss, Alain Favey, will move to fellow Volkswagen Group brand Bentley later this year to replace Chris Craft. Favey, whose career with the VW group stretches back to 2009, and includes stints at Volkswagen, Porsche and Skoda, will oversee product launches with the |British luxury brand from June as it progresses with its 'Beyond 100' electrification strategy. I'd hope he'll listen to Bentley customers better than he has to us, or he won't last long there! No news yet on who his replacement will be. Chris
  19. CJJE replied to 1stkaroc's topic in Skoda Karoq
MIB3 systems are 'supposed' to get 'local' updates online as soon as they are available, but my car is still showing version 19:11 so it is not obvious if I've had any. If you set up a route to a different country, then it is 'supposed' to update maps used on the way. But again I have no evidence this is actually happening. The MIB3 system is a disaster in all VAG cars, and it is about time the motoring press started reporting it instead of regurgitating their old tests on MiB2 cars! And if you have a look at the German Karoq forum (Skoda Karoq Forum – Die deutschsprachige Karoq Community) you'll see they are equally incensed over there!! Chris
  20. CJJE replied to 1stkaroc's topic in Skoda Karoq
I suspect it was designed for European postcodes, not the UK ones which for domestic locations can cover quite a wide area - which is why if you enter a postcode it locates to the central off-road position rather than an address. Due to a lack of long-distance travelling I haven't yet had to try it out, but if you enter a full address will it take you to that house? Chris
  21. CJJE replied to 1stkaroc's topic in Skoda Karoq
Yep, you've discovered the design bug in the new MIB3 satnav systems fitted to all VAG cars now. Keep complaining and perhaps someone will realise it's stupid and issue a software update. (You'll see similar complaints in several sections of Briskoda, and also other SEAT and VW owner forums! I'm told that if you store the destination with your own name, it'll remember that. But I can't comment on how well it navigates there due to covid lockdowns! Chris
  22. When I fitted mine, the first went straight on and stayed there... but the second one worked it's way off as I tightened the bolt. Pushing it right up and not over-tightening the bolt seemed to work. But I haven't driven any distance since to see if it stays there! The U bracket has two 'bumps' on the inside that I suppose are intended to penetrate the plastic tongues to keep it on, but I also made sure the sliding part of the U bolt was turned so its edges would also 'cut' into the plastic tongues. Chris
  23. I believe the Skoda Connect icon is in the main menu rather than the nav system, but I've also seen a statement on the Skoda Connect Portal website saying this function isn't available yet. Chris
  24. I would have expected your dealer to have set this up during the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) as it would be very dangerous to have the speedo reading in km/h instead of mph! But having set it correctly, I can't see any reason for it to change unless you have the personalisation option and have somehow set it up so that one of the keys resets it to Km. If it persists, I think a call to your dealer is called for! Chris
  25. And you can open them later without needing a current licence?? I've read that they are locked documents that check with base that you are still allowed to open them... and that 'Print to PDF' is disabled? Chris
