the truth about electric cars
I knew 3 young men that went to Uni , studied law and then when they started working as solicitors bought land & as much as they could afford. It just happened to be near the airport and that is now where long term parking is and warehousing and much more. That was 40 years ago. No idea at which point they sold or if they did sell parts parts of their land. I suspect they did sell by now. These parking areas were not that large or some that close to the airport and cars were jammed in back 40 years ago.

the truth about electric cars
I really am now loosing interest in this 'Truth about electric cars' which has now gone all 'possibly a hybrid' and such guff. I want to use the term used by the artist formally knows as @KenONeill, This is supposedly about Scalextric cars. So they can burn, burn hot, even burn liquid fuel if they are range extenders. It is how it is and it will be politicians and civil servants that make decisions on parking and storage and all that guff, nobody on here though.

Start-stop error with engine light
@itsko77 Welcome to the forum. You need a mechanic not how you are going to and taking your money and fixing nothing. ? How many km has your car done? What engine and gearbox does your car done. Is it a TDI & glow plugs, or a TSI and spark plugs replaced? You do say Ignition Coils replaced. Are they just putting parts on your car as trial to find an error or was it needing spark plugs, coils

Struggling to figure out as to why my fuel mileage/range seems to go down quick
@Apollyon001Welcome. Brim that tank sometime and drive 70 miles and brim it again and see if it needs only 4.546 litres. Averages. If you were averaging 60-70 mpg then you would need to be getting 80-90 mpg sometimes to account for when getting 40-50 mpg. We do not buy fuel in gallons anyway, it is in litres so 10 miles to a litre is not great, 45 litres = 450 miles. 15 miles to a litre is lovely. 675 miles.

the truth about electric cars
More sensibly priced EV,s with more range has been a 'simply clever' move. It is VW Group that seems to be dragging it,s heals. http://bbc.co.uk/news/business-67115975

the truth about electric cars
As to LPG. 110 octane in the UK. Hence why used even in V8,s for racing like Morgans & there are countries where the engine capacity can not be modified so Classic 3.5 V8 engines run on LPG. http://v8engines.com build such engines.

VRS 2.0 TSI (EA888) oil consumption?
Muppet technician that did this ball-sup of an Oil Consumption test even thought a litre of engine oil weighs 1,000 grams. Which it does not. The member got their new engine once this was pointed out to Skoda UK warranties. Happened often with 1.4 TSI Twincharger Fabia Mk2,s where some at dealerships said a litre in 1,000 km was acceptable because someone told them that was the number.

VRS 2.0 TSI (EA888) oil consumption?
Nooo. That is the pith take. VW Group say for all engines for 2 decades now, 3,4,5,6,8,10,12 cylinder, 44 bhp up, petrol or diesel. May use as much as 0.5 litre /1,000 km. 621 miles, so a litre in 1,242 miles. Total pith and their get out. Not acceptable in the UK on normal roads in UK weather, not towing after run in if the car is in Warranty. But some do use oil over time, and how used, and serviced & fuel / oil / plugs etc. ........... Using plenty oil on High Alpine Mountain Passes in High Summer Temperatures towing something is maybe 'Normal use' for the dudes at VW Group. Driving to work or just to the shops etc and they are at it. Even used as a Taxi / Private Hire Car / Airport transport it is just a 220 ps 2.0 TSI family / sales rep size car not some highly tunes Hot Hatch.

Is it safe to remap my mk2 vrs with the standard clutch?
@luisbuckIf you are talking Stage 1 & the DQ200 DSG as it is in your 2010 then yes totally safe. But seeing as your DSG is 13 years old and it might have had abuse or just hard use you might find that it goes wrong & then you would need new clutch packs, upgraded software. Do you know if it is the original DSG and never had new clutches up to now, did it get Service Campaign '34F7' sometime since 2014. Is there a sticker in the spare tyre well? ? Are you going to be doing lots of standing starts full throttle, going to the 1/4 mile, hill climbs or sprints? As it is putting out 205 bhp instead of 178 bhp will make little difference driving normally if the DSG is good now. ? Is your engine all good for remapping and do you know that it is not already remapped, have you checked, or had the car from new??? PS Some of the first cars in the UK registered about May / June 2010 were used as Media Cars and had a bit different software. In S at 127 mph or so they go into S7 and do not stay in S6. This is a good thing as it turns out. Some might still be running, i know of 5 of these cars that members had. ..... This was one that a member had and he sold it for spares or repairs, engine failure, it had a personal plate then. *back running with the original registration and on the road.* I had one of them as well and red. Still on the road with the original engine back in it when i sold it, but it was an oil user when it was sold as a Ex Demonstrator & rejected by the first buyer. There were at least 3 in each colour.

the truth about electric cars
A small point regarding diesels and LPG. The diesels were not converted like petrols to run on petrol or LPG or like i had just LPG and no need to start on petrol. The LPG was used at about 25% with the diesel to boost the power.

VRS 2.0 TSI (EA888) oil consumption?
Use any oil to the Spec VW 504 00 / 507 00 so 5w 30 FS III. ASDA, TESCO etc are fine, proper oil produced by proper oil compaines. Or go non Long life oil at the next Oil & Filter change. VW502 00 so basically '5w 40 FS'. Fixed Service Oil Changes, 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner. Non Long Life oil and a long living 2.0 TSI Euro 5 / 6. .............. If running it on E10 95 Ron maybe get in E5 97 or 99 ron. Maybe Tesco Momentum 99 or Sainsbury,s Super Unleaded 97 ron Minimum. Winter spec petrol starts getting delivered starting in Scotlsnd and North of England from now.

First long range trip tomorrow
I just got back in and it is 2"oC. I have no heated steering wheel this winter and really the heater does not blast out heat while charging lie the Corsa electric did. Heated seats work when charging but there are no wind deflectors because on frameless doors so i need to sort that out before the snow and rain again because i sit in when charging. PS When passing the Dundee Tesla Supercharger you could get a quick top up. Open up an account as a Non Tesla Driver. (Dundee & Aviemore are part of the Scheme, Aviemore very handy.) 20,00- Midnight & to 16.00 is 50 pence a KWh in Dundee & 16.00-20.00 61 pence a kWh. 8 x 150 kW max chargers. Broxden Park & Ride Perth new Chargers can not be far off being ready. 35 pence a kWh. Stirling Park & Ride, Castle View is the same. Chargers in Auchterarder near the Crown Wynd, beside toilets, chip shop ect on High Street,

Black roof?
It might have been an idea to ask in the Mk3 Fabia Section. Usually painted. There were Mk2 Fabia Monte Carlo that came with a wrapped roof but i suspect they were built for another country with a different standard trim then ended up in the UK and not the RoI or other right hand drive countries so they wrapped them.

VRS 2.0 TSI (EA888) oil consumption?
~It is not unusual# Tom Jones. @Kevin Pallett How long have you had the car / miles? When serviced last or when you got it had you checked the Oil Level stone cold, and as it needs checked, At normal Operating Temperature so up near an indicated 90*oC when stopped a few minutes and parked on the flat? Just asking so that it is clear the oil is at Max and not low between your topping up. ? Used daily for how long journeys from a cold start until stopped?

First long range trip tomorrow
@Ovv Were you only about 150 miles from Public Charger to home and to IKEA and back home then to a charger? What sort of efficiency did the car show in the not very cold yet weather? I used to use the Kinross Charger at the Park & Ride near Sainsbury for a quick top up but they became unreliable & maybe blocked by the same cars. The chargers at the Service Area i never used because of the cost but i might need to with my MINI just to be OK as the winter comes on. @BoxerBoy Obviously people might go elsewhere and not directly there and directly back and it is good to know that there is plenty range if you do need to divert and maybe cross the Tay Bridge rather than the Friarton Bridge and this past week the Traffic Lights and flooding have been making for big queues between Friarton & Dundee.

@Ollythewolly Be sure that the driver is matching Photo ID for the Named Driver. Reason i say this is the driver that crashed into me did not have ID or even know their name and called someone who arrived and gave a name & details. They were not who they pretended to be or even the nationality of the person insured, i checked Facebook etc got their picture and proof for my insurer. Turned out my Insurance and theirs was owned by the same Insurance company and they were going knock for knock. As it was the driver worked for the company that had the Group Insurance that had their fleet vehicles, they were a valeter and car delivery person and had no licence. I got my total losses covered and no hit at the next renewal but then i had different policies and some without NCB, and some with.

Better have this in another thread like a Mobility one of which there are in General Automotive chat. But since you ask. Personal Independent Payment and the higher Mobility Components or DLA Higher Mobility Component to Lease a car from Motability the Charity. Money recieved to do what you want with for you mobility / transport needs, or whatever, but some lease a car from Motability, or buy / lease cars from where ever using the money. Some even Lease EV.s and pay £5,000 - £8,000 in an Advance Payment, or get a grant to pay that, and get adaptions. Motability have about £2.8 Billion in their funds at present & own however many cars / vehicles, 300,000 plus i think. These go to BAC to be auctioned at end of lease. Usually @ 3 years or some sooner, but they can be kept for 4 or 5 years if low annual mileage or during shortages / long waiting times currently for some.

@J.R. You do talk some rubbish. Not their car but they pay £71 a week for it and paid an Advance Payment to lease it. Maybe a couple of thousand pound. So not even taking the increase each year on paying over their PIP it is £11,000 plus payments & that £2,000 or whatever. £13,000 for 3 years. The thing is is the driver the Person leasing or a named driver on the insurance? That can be several Named Drivers with a Motability Car. Be sure that the Persons ID is one on Motability & Direct Lines insurance. Often drivers of Motability vehicles might not be the Named ones, or even anything to do with who leases the car. ie, not the disabled person, spouse / partner / family / carer etc.

EV real world range and cost to charge
A near empty and cold battery and ambient temp of 4°C and only getting 39kW on a 50 kW charger & paying 41 pence a kWh. 20 kWh will be £8 20 and getting 3 1 miles a kWh that is just 62 miles. That is more expensive than a good economy ICE. But then the next 20 kWh charge will be at home @ 20 pence a kWh or even some charge Free at a NHS charger.
-

Sorry to hear this. (spelling) Motability have just last month changed their insurers to Direct Line. (Which is a good thing.) She will be well looked after, just make sure you are by our Insurer who have or should have no problem having Direct Line make them whole so you as well.

First long range trip tomorrow
@Ovv When i am charged £1.00 or £1.50 for plugging in and chargers not starting i make them take that charge off. The hundreds of Quids worth of charging that do not register and the thousands of miles free i got i do not offer to pay that back. The system is crap. But crap in my favour.
