the truth about electric cars
@cheezemonkhaiPublic Car Park and Council chargers and Common Good Land. (EU Funded, but they took that sign down once it opened.) I did ask why no EU Funding sign was put up or directions to the EV Charging from the A90 or town as many do get confused finding it from Apps / Sat Navs. No overstay charge on chargers & no parking restrictions or enforcement. As is quite common or was around Scotland. 1st June and when the tariff goes to 41 pence a kWh that will be the end of me using the chargers. It is a pity that the Council have not imposed Charging Time Limits, but then that does not stop those that set their car to just charge that amount of time and cut out but the car sits locked in.

DSG & autohold/handbrake
Many years ago the brake lights were only on if they were sitting with a foot on the brake pedal in an auto and not going to N and putting on the parking brake. There are those police drivers that will sit held up in traffic that ignored the highway code. Then in more recent years sit in their XC90 Volvo or what ever in gridlock traffic like the Edinburgh bypass and Autohold has the brake lights on. Common sense has drivers last in the queue with their brake light on. Lots around without common sense though.

Rear End Protection
Those are not protecting anything are they on the corners if anyone hits them, just sacrificial and likely the bumper still gets pushed in. Is the front position where you normally get damage when something hits you? For directly to the rear get the most sticky tow ball you can.

High mileage... am I mad?
Welcome. Is it cheap enough? What is the History of, actually servicing and maintenance and part / consumable replacement, annually or bi-annually & not just Oil & Filter servicing? Is everything as should now, good tyres fitted, brakes, windscreen without chips & the car ready to roll. No DPF issues? Suspension all good?

Brake pedal free play.
What a parallel universe some stay in or drive in where every journey is an adventure & roads are a race track. Many drive and have rusty brakes as they hardly ever touch the brake pedal.

New or improved hubs announced, Government EV Loans in Scotland and free & no longer free public charging places..
1st June tariff update unannouncements. http://chargeplacescotland.org/tariff/1st-june-tariff-update-announcement Angus Council chargers increase to 41 pence a kWh on slow, fast or rapid chargers.

the truth about electric cars
There is plenty parking spaces and i have never seen them full since the place was opened. The chargers slow or Rapid get used and are unreliable and often what is working gets plugged into and used, Then there are total plonkers like this Octavia driver. Hard to really think what goes through their mind if anything. EDIT. Turns out it has been there at least for 3 days.

Boot lid recall
It is not a Recall if any of you were not notified before the car was actually into a dealership. Registered Keepers. Just a Recall Actions, a workshop service campaign, a Skoda Secret Service campaign from a TPI. Dont tell everyone jut those that get main dealer servicing or read forums! http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions If the dealers have the 'Recall notice' / TPI, then it should show for with your VIN if it applies to your vehicle. 'Safety Recalls' ones that are with the DVLA and the manufacturers agents given the Registered Keepers contact details, PHEV's. or 2.0 TSI,s.

DSG repair costs-should skoda pay
Getting the actually result of a diagnosis is the first step. ? Why was replacing the engine, or the gearbox even mentioned? Is it the DSG, is it the MCU faulty, clutch packs, fly wheel, selector forks, or actually a gearbox totally sha-gged and needing replaced. Unlikely that a gearbox and an engine, and if so a real issue for Skoda CZ and UK right there.

What to do with the fuel cap…?
I used to be a Pump Boy in my teens and certainly used the Trigger Lock back in the day filling up commercials, or my van or others with big tanks. Not with a Fabia though, and i vented the tank on any i was filling up. I never needed Hands Free with my Alhambra with a 63 litre tank, as i can scratch my ar5e with one hand.

Misfire on heavy acceleration
Surely no crud in the bottom of your cars tank and you do have a filter. Morrisions or any other place is not feeding crud from their tank through the filters to the pumps then through the filter in the pump. 2023 we are on now & these are modern filling stations.

What to do with the fuel cap…?
Topping up 45 litre tanks with a Fabia do not take long pulling the trigger and the blow back soon has the Auto cut off needing the trigger used again to brim them.

Brake pedal free play.
No idea on your issue, but what setting have you got the brake assist at? Your post on settings is here. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/490344-adjustable-brake-settings-deep-in-vcds

The MG 4 and 5 EV and Maxus vans - Game changing cars & vans from SAIC
@cheezemonkhai I doubt you failed to understand anything. & rear wipers to clear heavy snow will not be an issue if there is no heavy snow. ? Does an EV6 rear camera stay clean in messy salted / gritted roads if you maybe drive for an hour or 3 then have to reverse into a parking place / charger etc? AC /Demisting needing to be used in weather conditions when driving in the type of weather driving or sitting charging with people or animals in the car is not an issue for many if not trucking about in those circumstances. For those that are it is good to be able to keep the interior dry while sitting in the car in rainy or snowy conditions while charging. Wind deflectors pretty necessary to crack the windows open. It is a pity that is not a option with EV's. 3- 3.4 miles per kWh type efficiency in empty cars other than a driver in ambient temps in the teens even if it is raining is pathetic. Because the season is winter it is hardly Winter weather just because raining and 12*oC that can be around the UK any season of the year weather daytime or night time.

Cambelt change needs special 'laser guided' tool?
@w82Your specific engine is a 1.5 TSI ACT, so if googling what others charge remember it is not just a 1.5 TSI.
-
Services..what's included?
Not much is done at Oil & Inspection then Extended. . Extras cost. So the Air Filter, Pollen Filter, Fuel Filter, brake fluid. so before paying out lots find out what is getting actually replaced with that 'offer'..

DSG & autohold/handbrake
The car will not Stall, but if Stop / Start in active it can turn off, and restart easy enough. If the weather is not horrible it will not be dazzling everyone, and the stop not long then those behind will probably prefer the brake lights on and the quick move off rather than the shifter coming from P to Reverse with the light flash to N then D.

Towbar fitting question
Welcome. Hopefully someone here can help. ? Does your car have the Factory tow preparation and approval for towing?

Timing Belt Change
@PetrolDave yes. Then with 1.4 TSI there are with or without ACT & different prices. In some other threads in the General Automotive chat people have posted about the price of 1.5 TSI Cambelts with VW's or SEAT's and they need to remember if with or without ACT.

High Beam Assist/Auto LIght Assist

The MG 4 and 5 EV and Maxus vans - Game changing cars & vans from SAIC
I want to be able to be in Sport when not in towns. drive at NSL's and 70 mph where applicable, AC / heating or cooling / no misting available regardless of the weather and able to carry people and stuff in the car comfortably and not have to consider charging in 200 miles if a car has a 60 kWh usable battery. so 3.3 or better miles per kWh Stuff the ECO stuff and ECO tyres and setting off fingers crossed the weather is perfect for an EV. Charging properly every time is nice or actually rather important. UK winters are not that cold. Heating / de-misting with a car full of people or even just a driver being very important.

Tesla price drop UK 2023. Changing times, changing market. If they can pile them high and shift them cheaper. Or is it like a 'fire sale' make money while you can.
I just get peed off when they are using free or cheap chargers and the driver wants them to 100% before moving their sore ass. But there are many like that with big, medium or small batteries even doing it every time they charge even if they only ever do a few miles a time between charging.

The MG 4 and 5 EV and Maxus vans - Game changing cars & vans from SAIC
@cheezemonkhaiI went look at them again after dismissing a Megane e-Tech. (Pop out handles, crap in proper winter conditions.) Same Dealership. Just because available at Low Advance Payments on Motbility and bigger battery ones. Too many issues for me with screen, i am not left handed, the no rear wiper, and they need to sort snagging faults. The dealership is only 11 miles away but after the crap with my Corsa Electric i am not faffing about with faults / recalls etc. Tried and tested is the way i am going. Some issues can be expected but really that means me going to 2nd or 3rd generation EV's only. Sometime in the future then. *I do not want any shiny black plastic inside, anyplace i touch or have to wipe of stoor from.* Nor any outside where i have to wash of road grime / salt / sand etc from. Pity.

Timing Belt Change
@GrahamWadevery important is when getting prices is that it is a 1.5 TSI ACT (Active Cylinder Technology.) Priced differently from a 1.5 TSI if you check for Cam Belt replacement.
