  1. @keepfor15 The recommended oil for Fixed or Variable servicing of the engine is 5w 30 FS III (long life oil) That is VW504 00 / 507 00. But you are wanting to run your 1.0 TSI 3 cylinder engine for 15 year. So maybe do fixed service Oil & Filter changes @ 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner. & do not use LONG LIFE OIL. Use VW 502 00 which is 5w 40 Full Synthetic. Then fingers crossed a longer lived 3 cylinder Euro 6 TSI Since they came in in 2015/16 they have just been on the roads for 7 years, so lets get to 10 years and beyond and see how well they last. http://volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers/servicing/service-plans/service-schedules.html
  2. Welcome. Have you refilled to see what you used? So have you got a locking fuel cap? It would need to be a very choked air filter to have that bad economy and that does not happen overnight. Winter spec petrol was staring to be delivered in Scotland and the north of England this week. That would make no difference.
  3. No harm in replacing it come time, @ whatever km / miles those in the actual know suggest or if the gearbox feels like it needs it. I know nothing about manual boxes, but when not in an offroader they should not suffer much because of the environment used in.
  4. @Eccles As i asked in the other thread. How many miles has your car done in the near 8 years when the mechanic checked the belt? Maybe as more of the first Euro 6 1.2 TSI's get to 8 years old VW Group might revise the Recommendation, guidelines or schedule for timing belt changes in the UK. Then again they might not.
  5. @Eccleshow many miles on your car @ nearly 8 years when the belt was inspected? They as in VW Group could simply extend the time / miles /km that they give as a guide / recommendation / schedule for Timing belt changes. Maybe now that Euro 6 engines are 7 years old they might do. Bur then they have not so plenty will take advice they get from the manufacturers, and if they have not had a car from new they do not know about it early years, maybe the first 3 or 5 years.
  6. Welcome . It will be the timing belt and tensioners. That is past being due. Coolant can be tested for the strength. Brake fluid for h2o content. The power steering fluid can be left as is. As can the thermostat.
  7. Do people really need to read tests and articles to know that tyres with low tread left are rubbish in the wet, cold or snow?
  8. The issue really is carrying more than 5 people and luggage, maybe sports / leisure equipment in an EV & travelling some distance maybe in inclement weather with them comfortable the car not getting steamed up and damp and them having to endure a few charging sessions, maybe even at locations were there are no toilets or other facilities. 250 miles in colder or damp weather with a driver and passengers and stuff will be amazing. Maybe even just 5 golfers and there sets of clubs. With the Merc. 250 miles, 66 kWh battery, so near 3.8 miles per kWh loaded. In their dreams.
  9. The Gairnshiel route (bridge) is still closed just now for a new bridge and road realignment at either end. So the diversion from the A93 is at Dinnet or by Tarland to the A944 if you would normally be going on the A939. You get there quicker if doing legal speeds with the diversion anyway. Just not quite such a perfect 'drivers road.' http://www.aberdeenlive.news/news/aberdeen-news/work-replacing-historic-aberdeenshire-bridge-7700013
  10. @numskull I would put money that the tyres / treads on the Summer / All year round tyres you had on the cars in the 1980's / 90's were rather different from the wider / low profile and ECO bias tyres fitted now from the factory. Yesterday was lovely and warm while pithing down with pretty wet and in places & flooded roads, and warmer winter oop north often means snow then thaw and cold wet roads. As you know it is a location location location thing. I live in the north east which has rather different weather and winters from up the middle of Scotland or the west or the far north. (From the east the snow will blow, from the west the snow will go. We getting lambing snows.) My family are in Nairn but it is many a year since i have gone further up the A9 than Aviemore, i get to Inverness coming along the coast. i go across to Nairn from Carrbridge to Ferness, or am over by the Lecht and Grantown to Ferness and i was across this week in the pithing rain. Hence why new front tyres are going on this morning. Flooded roads and big holes opened up. It should be on anyone's bucket list if you have not been on a A93 & A939. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/435353-north-east-250-scotland One of my favourite roads and my choice of routes as long as the Snow Gates are open.
  11. OK. What happened with your car? There was a common issue with the cars your age and that was the Turbo Acuator, which when customers were paying they were told it needed a Turbo and Acuator but actually you can get an actuator. There was a early issue as well and a TPI and the fix was a Shim. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/444502-12tsi-turbo-epc-issues
  12. @Gazthat indicated 64 mph will be pretty much the car doing 62 mph then if the GPS was checking it. Maybe it is a setting someplace on that screen.
  13. @BroadsrangerI alerted a Mod so that your thread can go to the Karoq section. ? Is the car new to you?
  14. @BettyFabiahave you diagnosed yourself that this is what you need. Does whoever is fitting it not get cheaper than you with 'Trade prices'?
  15. @BroadsrangerHas this just started as something new now? Instead of turning off the Speed Warning maybe set the Winter Tyre warning at 100 MPH and the other at 110 and see how that goes. Ask a Salesperson for assistance to reset or stop the warning if needs must. Is the car out of warranty now?
  16. Are you checking this VIN checker. If so it is hopeless, There can be TPI's and software updates and nothing shows there. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions The 2nd Recall in 2017 on DQ200's 2013-2015 never showed there, or the World Wide Recall 2012 that excluded Europe until 2014 when a Recall Action Service campaign was called. Not a RECALL.
  17. There is the same oil in a Wet clutch DSG, in the box and MCU. (Different from the Dry clutch DSG's which have 2 oils, separated.) So if you have a leak you likely have a loss of pressure with the Mechatronic Control Unit. Needs addressing then.
  18. @JR RS The OP has 1.4 TSI to the left in their signature, but has a 1.5 TSI ACT. Still a DQ200 DSG when a FWD Skoda. ( The 1.5 TSI AWD's got a DQ381.) So the engines got a Software Update when recalled, but there were also 1.5 TSI with a DQ200 that needed a DSG Software update, and some needed 2 carried out. Karoq. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/446820-15-sel-first-gear-issue/page/116 Superb. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/472663-new-recall Octavia. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/507885-issues-with-skoda-octavia-2021-combi-15-tsi
  19. Being a TDI the correct oil is Long Life regardless of the car being on a fixed service or variable / flexible regime. That would be to VW 504 00 /507 00. The VW507 00 being the spec and 5w 30 FS III. The factor i would look for is that the oil level has not been increasing. As in Diesel diluting the oil. But if the Oil Level when checked has been staying the same or only slightly dropping then that should not be an issue. PS Checking what an Invoice says when a car is serviced is more than a good idea, and checking what they reset the service indicator to. Also dipping the oil cold and again at operating temp to see they put enough in and not too much is 'simply clever'.
  20. @akcope. Out of interest. What engine, how many miles / km? What oil was used at the last service and how many miles/km ago was that. So when set last time was it showing as 24 months, 18,000-20,000 miles to the next oil service?.
  21. Welcome. Is this something new happening? How many Miles / Km has the car done? So is the engine serviced correctly, and has the DSG been serviced and had oil changes @ 40,000 miles / 64,000 km?
  22. @numskullLocation location location. Nice that in Surrey there has not been what you would call bad weather. This winter not putting on the heating will not be much of a hardship i would imagine. Not many Ski centres down south are there? You seem to not pay attention to how many days the ski centres were open and how many days there was snow but the Snow Gates closed on the A93 & A939 for Glenshee or the Lecht, or up the Ski road to the Cairngorms. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/323078-skiers-and-snowboarders-come-forward/page/12 You need to get north more often. Maybe to where the Cold Weather Payments for 7 days of average 0*oC are paid out. In the past 8 years some post code areas have had as many as 7 payment week's, 5 is common. Last year there were fewer, but that is sometimes because missed by 1 day,or before November or after March when the payments run. 2017/18 & 2018/19 was when there were many weeks where payments were made in the Perthshire, Aberdeenshire and Highland areas, and Fife, Edinburgh and other areas. To get to Inverness from the south you probably come up the A9 so over Drumochter & the Slochd were you have winter roads during a UK winter. There is a bit of a heat wave this week. Did you notice Inverness is at sea level and the Moray Firth benefits from the Gulf Stream. Spey Bay being rather lovely. Inverness is built where it is an the end of a river, at the corner of the Moray Firth, and most Cities and Ports at the sea are where the weather is less severe. As are Airports, you build them where fog / freezing fog will not shut them down. The reason for the Golf Courses being along the coasts is because of sand the nature of the land, but also because of the weather. The coarses at Braemar and Ballater. Aboyne etc are lovely as well though, in the coldest areas of Scotland. When i was young many fitted Firestone Town & Country tyres for the winter. Winter and Snow Tyres are not a new phenomenon in Scotland as they have been getting fitted for many decades. I first used Sitirling Winter Remoulds every winter back in the 1970's and then Winter Tyres of all sorts as they became more common. The first were Vredestein that were pretty affordable into the 1980's.. Fitted to the cars wee scooted about in in winter. http://vredestein.co.uk/classic-tyres/products http://vredestein.co.uk/heritage-legacy
  23. @Joss1733 Did your car come minus them because someone never fitted them at the PDI?
  24. ? Has anyone that has had the recall work had this issue? http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/507937-no-fluid-in-hybrid-coolant-header-tank
  25. @numskullsome horror show tyres can come from Michelin, Continental , Bridgestone & Pirelli. ECO tyres fitted as OE by the VW Group even to 'SUV's', Summer tyres on cars coming to the UK and maybe having to be used all year round as 'fleet or lease cars' will not get something better fitted unless at the drivers expense.
