  1. Engines can free off but you would have thought that happened long ago. The ECU will not have adapted. Weather changes but you must have had plenty temperature changes in the past 20,000 miles. Is the oil due a change or has it been done recently? It might be a bit diluted with fuel now if not changed recently, Has your Haldex had its oil change at 3 years / 30,000 miles. A thrashing is not a bad thing ( an itlian tune up) and maybe the tyre pressures a bit higher through the summer. I would hope a lighter petrol Fabia felt a bit nippier.
  2. @Rob1984 I asked a few times, sorry if you answered and i missed it. ? Was the car a Cat N write off. From what your OP said. What damage, an accident or stolen recovered or what was the story?
  3. http://caravanclub.co.uk/whats-on/awards/towcar-of-the-year/SKODA Front wheel drive. 1 speed / DSG. Did they even look at the car or the Skoda spec sheet. Or did they get their info from one of those?
  4. They have built Caravans / Trailers like that. But then as said you have the weight of what you are towing to consider. You are back to towing more weight to get more range. So what you really need is the regeneration from the thing towed and a small battery, like with a Hybrid Plug in car. But still weight is the issue. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/502992-electric-cars-or-vans-towing-in-the-uk-any-reviews-or-videos-anyones-experience-etc
  5. I suspect you know what a dealership is. There you might find a dealer principal or manager. In a physical building you might go to. There are cars bought or leased that might be supplied by whoever and delivered to you. They are all coming from Skoda and into the UK because Skoda / VW UK are the importer.
  6. @george4064best touch nothing and get the fault reported and booked in to be repaired using the warranty the car has. Do not leave too long before doing this.
  7. Skoda UK / VW UK decide for the UK market that they are going to offer what ever for their market and if that is style over function then that is what is the choices. Even basic models of a Fabia / Scala etc for sale / lease to Fleets / Utility Companies / NHS etc might not be available with sensible wheel choices for their users anymore. Now with the horrible Aero Wheel Trims (IMO) that cars are coming with there might as well be 16" steel wheels offered and with a All Season tyre option in the UK. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/504905-mk4-colour-edition-wheel-caps
  8. @domhnallArnold ClarK Booking Centre in Glasgow had someone call me this week to arrange my 2nd Service. I said if there was one due it was in August, but first could they maybe arrange my first service to be completed & the service indicator reset and the 4 outstanding recall actions to be done as i have been asking for over 18 months. She said yes and she could book me in at Arnold Clark Dock Street Dundee. I said she could if the have a courtesy car for at least 4 days and it might need to be longer as they can not appear to actually do the updates within a week. She said no problem, and i said is that because you now have Automatic Courtesy cars or you can now through Motability get one from Eurocar. So she knows nothing about this. Nothing about a Corsa Electric supposedly having a 1st Service @ 1 year / 8,000 miles and the 2nd 2 years later. Mine is overdue the 2 years later from the 8,000 mile service as it was done within 6 months of the PDI. So Arnold Clark Dock Street Dundee was going to be contacted and a Service Manager was to call me. Well i am waiting. Just as well i check stuff like brakes my self, they are a very rusty mess at nearly 30,000 miles and 23 month.
  9. @RR1976 No need to break an engine though. So get the Servicing and maintenance done in the 2 weeks before anyone goes and puts new engine management on a car. Do the Servicing and use the different petrol if you are going to when wanting improved performance then go do your spirited driving and be sure all feels good. Know it is running well and fault codes if there are any are checked now and cleared and then you can see if any are logged again. If Basic Diagnostics @ Celtic Tuning comprises of plugging the car in and checking for fault codes, misfires etc then best you get 4 new spark plugs in prior to visiting and maybe a new air filter and Super Unleaded fuel and see that the car is running well. If you use E10 95 Unleaded now then why not try Tesco Momentum 99 Super Unleaded and see if the car feels any more responsive. That will be only about £2.50 a tank full more than buying unleaded. Maybe no more if you are not buying Super Market Unleaded now but the Big Branded fuels. Best that you do try to learn about the DSG you have. Your DSG is very different from the one in your vRS. That would have been a 6 speed Wet Clutch DSG which had one oil in it and required oil & filter changes every 40,000 miles. A DQ250 DSG i expect. The type of DSG you have in a 1.4 TSI Rapid is not used in 2.0 TSI's or TDI's. But then whoever at Celtic Tuning you talk to should explain that to you. You have a DQ200 7 speed Twin Dry clutch DSG which has 2 oils in it, in the box and in the MCU and it has no servicing schedule, guidelines or recommendations. They are in FWD cars with no more than 250 Nm from that factory and in Skoda no more than 180 ps and in VW;s no more than 192 ps. ( in the Remap Links you read i have spoken about Mk2 Fabia vRS 1.4 TSI's being remapped to over 200 ps and over 210 ps stage 1 or stage 2 and having 300 /320 Nm on the standard DQ200 DSG without issue, but then there are those that have not been lucky.) http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/456036-dq200-dsg-tpi-information http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/439395-the-story-of-the-famous-dq200-clutch-slip/page/9 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/478696-highest-mileage-with-a-dq200-dsg-gearbox Your car does not need the DSG Oil Change. The Spark Plugs should have been changed or inspected and the Air Filter checked, changed or cleaned.
  10. Welcome. The Experience will be much the same as any model of a Euro 6 1.4 TSI 148 or 150 ps with a DQ200 DSG which is you will get a bit more power. So if the engine and DQ200 is OK then not an issue. Are you going to run on E10 95 ron or E5 97/99 ron and what do Celtic Tuning show if not on Super Unleaded as the possible gain? Maybe more on Briskoda have had Octavia 1.4 TSI's remapped. Maybe best you get an engine remap and a DSG remap of the DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG. ? Does Celtic Tuning do DQ200 remaps? http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/496005-octavia-mk3-14-tsi-remap http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/477722-anyone-think-remaps-are-worth-it
  11. Bottom vid and the usual error. Not really thinking while understanding 'an awful lot of juice!'. If he went to a Super Market and went on a 'Fast Charger' that is Free then in 1 hour he might get 6.6 maybe 7 kWh. so maybe 25 miles added. 30 minutes obviously 1/2 that. But if on a Rapid 50 kW, maybe a PodPoint @ 28 pence a kWh and he gets 35 kWh that is £9.80. If it gets 45 kWh of a charge then that is £12.60.
  12. @CarlstonIs the numbers person that can give you all the info you might ever need. The post is there up top and the 2nd reply with the scores on the doors.
  13. Let's hope the small difference of unsprung weight can help you improve the ride. Some might change springs / dampers. The height of the rubber is pretty much fixed. The outside so the circumference. The hole in the middle is small if a 16" wheel is in it compared to a 17 or 18" rim. So the sidewall of the tyre is taller to keep the circumference the same. You can get more flex tyre dependent. You might have XL sidewalls on a lower profile tyre, a sportier tyre. As with a 15" Steel spare wheel has a tyre with more % of a profile to use even if replacing an 18" alloy wheel removed. Tyre pressures are shown for light load to full load /ECO pressures. PS. Look in your owners manual and you will see the wheel size Skoda gives to use if snow chains are used.
  14. They were telling the truth they are very desirable and they could sell it and make a profit. Not that many salespeople ever tell a prospective buyer with a car to trade in that their can is not of any interest to them or anyone else and is worth nothing. There are some but they usually do not last long selling cars.
  15. @Rob1984 What kind of thing was done to make it a 'Full Service'. Oil & Filters, Spark Plugs, Pollen & Air Filter. How much did you pay?
  16. Good then if the technician is identifying the problem, repair and if an issue that needs Skoda / VW alerted to that can happen.
  17. Did they look like this when new? The tyres had to wear someplace otherwise they are going to be lasting forever. They are not bad for 12,355 miles of use. ? How about a picture of the rears?
  18. @Practicaldriver Sorry the cover question was a different thing. Just to know if the Dealership is on the ball. There is a Safety Recall on the Cover of 2.0 TSI engines and the solution was to remove them until there are replacements. Maybe yours not part of it, or checked and considered safe. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions Shows for 2020 & 2021.
  19. @Practicaldriver Does that mean you are just to drive it meantime without the source of the leak being known? I just posted late before you. Has the Engine Cover been taken off your car due to the Recall?
  20. The week is not because they are working on it a week, it might be them looking at it some hour next Wednesday. You have the remainder of the Manufacturers warranty only. Then you could go with an Extended Warranty. If between now and then there were further issues then that would be when you discus with Skoda / VW them extending the warranty. Time will tell where the leak is. if a MCU in needed, or a new DSG or DSG & Mechatronic Control Unit or something else altogether. @Practicaldriver Just nosy but had your car already had the engine cover removed when in for the AC or recently were you told about the recall on that and had it removed?
  21. More rubber with air between road and wheel might be a better theory for just a passenger road car. You could go lighter wheel in that smaller size and not too reinforced a tyre sidewall.
  22. @Practicaldriver What engine and gearbox does your car have and how many miles has it done?
  23. Actually. back on Earth and not a fictional VW world. There is no evidence of any kind that 0w 30 FS III uses LESS OIL than 5 w 30 FS III or now that 0w 20 FS IV uses less oil than 5w 30 FS III did. What there is is the WLTP & RDE now RDE2 and supposedly lower emissions and less fuel consumed. Actually over the past years many have been using more engine oil, but then that is not part of the WLTP / RDE 2 so VW Group care not if some are like 2 strokes in how much oil used.
  24. If some sort of Recall, Recall Action or TPI then they should contact a registered keeper. Good if they can pop up on a screen. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions This one is 'Inspection in 29 days'. so just that. The usual thing many have had over the years. @Alanphe That is good if FREE and it suits you to go in. ?? Do they have a price that an INSPECTION would cost but that they are going to waive? But i fear you are being lied to. Someone at the Dealership is making this up. They are going to correct their error in that 30 minutes. The 'Inspection' was just left on the Service indicator and should not have been. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/500875-1st-service-due
  25. In my favourite colour. Look smaller if further away!
