Pirelli P7 no sidewall protection
A quick temp repair to inhibit corrosion if you have no lacquer is wipe with nail varnish remover to clear any dirt / salt now on it and paint over with clear nail varnish. Obviously corrosion will occur on salted roads over a winter with exposed alloy or metals.

Electric vehicles and charging
Bl00dy fiasco as often is the case with CPS chargers. Started out at 9.30 and now charging for the 3rd time at a different location. Dunblane early on worked on CCS but dead slow and cutting out. Charger in Ayr would not stay charging. A new Charger at Turnberry would not unlock CCS and has no AC cable attached and has no number and is not recognised on the App. So getting a free charge for an hour if nobody needs the single charger I am then free to do what I am here for. Still 150 miles more to go tonight but going to use Polar Plus to charge super quick on someone else's Audi card. Cold all day and only getting 2.7 miles per kWh with just me in the car and AC off. Once car is loaded and the temperature drops below freezing I am interested to see what it gets me. Had a tyre pressure warning so stopped and all 4 tyres were fine. Put a couple more psi in each and reset so will see if all is OK.

the truth about electric cars
But sit in Dundee and that is a whole different story with Yellow Nissan Leaf early and later cars and many other EV,s.128 licensed. Angus also for EV taxis. But then the public charging infrastructure is there and Taxi firms have their own charging hubs. As it is in Glasgow actually has the infrastructure where free charging is available. There are proper EV Taxi cabs around the city. In Dundee there are also fleets of Food Delivery and Couriers using EV,s.

the truth about electric cars
I would like to know what one being driven conservatively with a driver and 3 adult passengers as many are when Private Hire / Taxis to see what the early Leafs can do on a full charge. Still not much idea if maybe 40% of the journey is just the driver. Airport Transport type thing, no fare paying passengers on one leg of a journey.

Charge point cover
The only thought given is that someone will not plug in at a very open charger while there are blizzard conditions or freezing rain and the charger head will get surrounded with snow or ice while in there. There are nothing to prevent not 'simply clever' situations. Or crap charged locations as can be found in Scotland. The Czech manufacturer failed for decades to 'Winterize' fuel filler flaps of some models. If you put warm or hot water on the flap to get unfrozen and open or all you can do is pee on it you must be remember to dry it before closing again. Polish the area, use silicon spray or whatever you usually do as pre winter / pre freezing weather to insure Fuel Flaps open.

First Bong?
Not first bong but first sighting of Gritters out salting with air temp above freezing but road temp already below. Winter starts moving into the north east of Scotland.

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
Here. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/257110-correct-service-interval-and-oil-grade-for-fabia-ii-to-be-pinned Engine codes. Posted Feb 2012. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/228245-engine-code (http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/246296-vrs-oil-temperature) PITA for some when they changed Variable / flexible to Fixed. PITA when car in at the Dealerships that changed Fixed to Variable on cars that were set for Fixed and drivers wanted that.

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
There was a change with some Mk2 Fabia engines that had a Service code for Fixed Services only and then were changed to suitable for Variable / flexible. The same engines in Polo, Ibiza and A1 were already showing the Code for Variable servicing 2 years before the MK2,s but the models were out before the MK2. They showed VW 502 00 for fixed and VW504 00 for fixed or variable with petrols There was a change of Oil filters with 1.2 TSI,s and some here got the wrong filters even when the cars were serviced at Main Dealerships. There was the change of oil capacity from 3.6 liters to 3.9 and again that was overlooked at dealerships and some had 3.6 litres on their invoice / bills.

Electric vehicles and charging
The issue is with a small battery like i have. Going to be cold tonight, colder through Thursday and cold, windy and maybe snowy on Friday. So off to charge to 95% and later tonight i will top up again to 95% on the slow charger. It will not be plugged in at home tonight. Early tomorrow i set off & have at least 280 miles to go. First chance of a reliable charger on my route without charging too soon is at 73 miles where if i get on the charger for 40 minutes, maybe i need to go to the next hub 10 miles on, or need to go 125 miles and get a 20 minute charge to see me to the first leg of the journey where i can charge for over an hour. If i just take an ICE i am there in 2 3/4 hours instead of maybe 3 1/2. Then later 120 miles to go so i want to get charged up which i will do at 100 mikes, so before i get to my hotel & i will be ready for setting off home Friday morning after being to the airport, which is 100 miles if there is no snow disruption. I need to know i have enough energy to take diversions, sit in traffic etc and get to a charger. More thought needed than just filling with petrol / diesel and going and the bad weather possibility. I have done the same trip in my EV quite a few times in warm or hot weather but not the same one when it is cold. I do like that i can do it for free just now rather than buying 8 gallons or more of fuel. Buying the fuel does save the round about 3 hours that i will be sitting in the car while charging while travelling.

Dacia Spring Electric
This is 'Ideal for the city (or even town or country) More so for many getting about in UK weather with shopping, stuff, tools etc much of the year than e-Scooters / e-Bikes for hiring. Ideal for cities where there are Congestion Charges, Idea if they start charging lots more for big / long vehicles in a city with only one person in it like should happen in the UK.

Dacia Spring Electric
The point of a small car is it is not the size of a slightly bigger one, If you want bigger and heavier then surely you want bigger to put people or stuff in and then you need more power / battery / motor weight maybe. Just to move one or 2 people about in a village, town, city or countryside you do not need rear leg room. A Smart for 2 Car or Toyota 1Q moves one or 2 people about the iQ moved 3 or 4. An Up!MiiCitigo moves 4 comfortably enough. 33kW / 45 ps , 125 Nm More than enough in town with one or 2 people in it . Enough to get moving with other traffic. (2 of my e-Bikes have 75 Nm and my Specialized Levo Turbo 90 Nm) A left hand drive in a UK City would not be that much of an issue, you would get out at the pavement side on one way streets etc if making deliveries.

Octavia Estate PHEV % read out on Dash giving a False read out
NEDC was replaced by the just as much kidology WLTP so no idea why that is being quoted. VW has to learn to cheat the new regime. Failing badly and are having to discontinue certain cars. Is it Skoda Aberdeen John Clark that are bumping their gums?

Octavia Estate PHEV % read out on Dash giving a False read out
Absolutely right for the different overnight temps this week. Just as with my EV. Park with 142 miles available and a warm night maybe start with only 136 showing. Another time with the battery full it can be 136 miles and next morning 124 mile range showing. Do not drive it until later in the day when warmer and it has 142 mile range showing.

the truth about electric cars
Usually a car is to get people about so it is good people can have free choices if they get to select what they drive. With many drivers / owners it is to do with practicality and comfort usually and that vehicles are to suit their transport needs. That will not always mean a large vehicle is what they want or get. If they get a SUV size / Crossover vehicle and like it then they might replace that with another like for like, or maybe not. They might have more than one vehicle for use in different circumstances.

the truth about electric cars
@fabdavrav The underside of almost all EV's are worth looking under. Be them designed as vehicles that are EV only or ones that come as EV / Hybrid or ICE models.

More importantly too often the EV cars currently procured & supplied by Local Authorities for doing only a few miles a day are Leaf, Ionity, i3 etc at 30 grand plus and are a total unnecessary expenditure. eg Angus Council. Zoe's http://dailyrecord.co.uk/news/green-row-over-scots-council-25072357 https://news.stv.tv/west-central/hundreds-of-electric-cars-left-unused-by-council-for-almost-two-years?top

Refurb Shocks
A report of 'slight misting' is not unusual. as common as being told the brakes are 80% worn when they are not even 20% worn. Slight misting being reported year after year is not unusual either even when the first report is no pretty new cars. If they need replacing best get ones that have a warranty and if there are issues can be dealt with using the Warranty with the supplier.

Dacia Spring Electric
All the car that many people ever need if they just potter about town and country on single lane roads or limited speed dual carriageways. Fine as a Pool Car for many business users / NHS, Carers, social workers etc & even trades people just doing local journeys.
