  1. Arran from Maidens.
  2. I think that many right handed people driving right hand drive cars find touch screens a PITA to use with fingers of their left hand. The other day a guy in a Tesla was coming straight towards me and would have hit me head on while he was doing something on the screen in the middle of the car while using his right hand. I clearly saw him coming as i was not messing about on mine and i pulled on to the verge, neither him or the cars fancy electrics / radar saw me. I half expected the Tesla Lane Keep Assist to steer the car into mine.
  3. That is where the alcohol from the stills can be used. Outer Hebrides for those that might need to do a search. Fill up before getting on ferries and carry extra Super Unleaded if you want to be using full power on the roads...
  4. They have E5 at Strantaer Morrisons now.
  5. ?where do skoda have 98 (95) on filler flaps? They do on Fabia MK2 vRS. Is it the same on a 280? Where in Scotland is there not a Tesco, Esso, BP, Gulf, Texaco, Gleaner or Sainsbury with Super Unleaded ? North of Inverness there are less but as long as a tank takes 10 gallons you will get by just fine. VW do recommend 98 Ron for GTI,s and R,s. Ignoring the fact that UK retailers stopped selling 98 Ron min when BP went from 98 min to 97 min and Shell went from 98 to 99 so the same as Tesco Momentum 99. Now Esso super is also 99 Min.
  6. @SurreyJohn. I am not mixing up diesel and anti waxing and winter. There is Winter Spec and summer petroleum. Deliveries starting mid October in Scotland and north of England and then south as the month goes on. Same as In Continental Europe and rest of world. Different times of year, seasons like for Australia. The UK sometimes have stock coming in later into the spring as supplies are brought in from Europe and North America. Maybe do some research and if you are stuck I can help you. Less hygroscopic formulation with the winter petrol. Try a Google. 'UK still buying winter gasoline as European refiners switch to summer.'. People really seem not to know what they buy or use which is an issue when discussing what economy or performance they get from fuels. Winter spec 97 or 99 Ron MINIMUM super unleaded in the UK can be lovely and especially if it is 100 + Ron that came in from continental Europe where 100/102 is more available. https://argusmedia.com/en/news/2133338-europe-faces-summergrade-gasoline-overhang http://sp3h.com/blog/107/
  7. Some people are finding their car loves up to 5% more ethanol than they got with E5.. Now the E10 and E5 is Winter Spec in the UK until the end of March. It might well contain less than 10% Bio in the E10 presently so that it is less hygroscopic. Then with the likes of ESSO Synergy 99 ron superunleaded E5 there are regional differences to where there is up to 5% ethanol in the petrol.
  8. Lots more threads than these on the subject around the forums. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/497917-new-e10-fuel-and-economy http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/497147-e10-fuel-in-a-2021-vrs-20-petrol http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/490693-e10-fuels
  9. @Boatman1Who is it that has stopped a mechanic or diy'er that wants to replace pistons from doing so? If you want to do that yourself then why not just do that?
  10. This years vid on the same old same old.
  11. @nta16 The same trips on the same roads in the same towns and cities year after years will include overtaking, following tractors, bikes etc and various speeds and overtaking. Scotland does not get that many new motorways, dual carriageways or bypasses built in 50 years. There are many more average speed cameras or mobile cameras where there are better / quicker roads / routes. A Euro 5 1,390 cc 180 ps DSG Mk2 Fabia vRS could do 10 miles per litre. Even better than that with a bit of easy ozzy driving or no passengers. Even better remapped so not running the factory Engine Management. No Stop / Start, no coasting function. The Twinchargers could be great, but VW never did the production right with too little R&D. (The CEO of VW North America bogged off to Volvo after introducing the Defeat Device TDI's to the USA & Volvo got the Twinchargers sorted.) VW Group gave the Sister cars as in the VW Polo GTI / Seat Ibiza Cupra from 2013 & the Audi A1 185ps which were heavier and on wider tyres a lowed VED band and better consumption figures. This is VW Group engineering, as in the more expensive cars must look as better performing by manipulation. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/319834-vrs-mpg-only-please http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/461848-real-world-mpg-in-your-vrs

  13. My brim to brim with Mk2 Fabia vRS was 'Venting', them when going on runs. (Charcoal canister stuff never worried me or gave problems.) So the Mk2 vRS's took 7 litres more from filling up and then 'Venting them'. On some trips where there was not going to be Super Unleaded available venting plus carrying a couple of fuel cans was all that was needed. (That used to be the likes pf going north of Inverness.) If a modern car Euro 6 plus can not do 450 miles from 45 litres with people in the car at UK NSL.s then VW Group really should be discontinuing that vehicle.
  14. If you are in deep snow, wet snow, blizzard type condition the snow can compact in any kind of wheels / spoke type. As to Narrow Tyres, then yes maybe studded / snow tyres and getting through to get grip then narrow works. If on Ploughed / Gritted / Salted roads even with snow lying on top the winter / All Weather / Snow tyre tread works with the snow. Narrower need not be better and if you think 215 is better than 235 or 225 then by that thinking 195 might be even better, The thing is that in the UK from November to April the All Weather / Winter tyres might get hours or days of doing the job on Snow / Ice but then have weeks of just dealing with not so cold, not so wet or not so snowy.
  15. The money for Petrol / Diesel / LPG comes from my pocket and i have known the MPG of every vehicle i have ever owned since the 1970's uses as i drive the same places week / month / year after year. All are 2 pedal cars, so Auto / CVT / DSG, Automated Manual, Servo Clutch etc. Over the years they have become much more efficient. By the first or second time i fill a vehicle i know how much fuel it uses on different routes and different ways of driving. These days that will be using Coasting function or not. Also it is how many miles per litre it goes. That i started using when driving LPG vehicles. I never minded they required twice as many litres to go the same distance because at the time LPG was half the price of petrol. Now i know ASAP how many miles per kWH EV's do and how much kWh of electric might be needed even when a EV is just sitting not being used.
  16. Anyone with a Rapid, Scala, Octavia or Superb have more chance of people thinking it is a Taxi / Private Hire / UBER car and getting in, especially in town / city centres.
  17. Plenty people might never drive in a dodgy area most of the time but might occasionally go places in their vehicle which they are unfamiliar with. I was passing through Pilton Edinburgh so rough but i was just coming up an unlit dual carriageway and stopped at temp traffic light where the road went single before a junction where the regular traffic lights were turned off. 3 people came from the side and tried to get the doors open which luckily were locked. I just floored it through the red lights.
  18. @DSL. Did you get papers printed to show you the Health Check details and is that showing the Bodywork Inspection so that no time down the line Skoda UK can say the Corrosion Warranty is void. As is happening with Citigo owners with rusty fuel filler areas. They say no 2 yearly inspection done. There is a pinned thread in Citigo section.
  19. Many search out launch / first build models a year or 2 down the line. Sometimes they can be the best of the bunch before the manufacturer's then start penny / euro pinching, then again they can find that they were overpriced and not selling like hotcakes and they add more standard equipment and reduce the RRP as Skoda did with Mk 2 Fabia Monte Carlo Tech. The MK4 Octavia's might be keepers for some but early ones might be well off used buyers wish list. Let's see how Dealership asking prices go though. Salespeople will never of heard of issued when selling them but will know all about it when offered ones as a trade in or straight sale.
  20. It is 'Autohold' though and not 'Autobrake', so just needs to be enabled with the On / off switch.
  21. An easy mistake to make when there are no cl;ear markings and there are no spare parking places around !.... She was very nice, she thought the cross hatch area was for Electric Cars.
  22. The point of the cover is that a Type 2 charger might be left in for many hours with no driver present and the weather over those hours could result in the build up of snow or ice and while the plug will remove you might need to remove snow / ice to get the flap closed. 45-60 minutes Rapid Charging on CCS might not have the similar thing happening. Saying that there are plenty around that do park up and plug into CCS and leave them for many many hours.
  23. Not yet as i have only been driving others EV's that come with the rubbish ECO tyres they get fitted as standard. They would very much benefit from having CrossClimate 2 or any All Weather tyres fitted. This is the 6th November last year when i had taken a run with the CrossClimate+ fitted before changing to my winter tyres to see the difference with them on the dry. It is good to know the difference with tyres fitted, but also the difference the pressures can make, but then load carried changes that. EDIT. 26th December 2021.
  24. Exactly. So some of the stuff posted about summers and stopping distances is not of any concern. The were CrossClimate, then CrossClimate + and now CrossClimate 2. All Summer tyres that are 3 peak / winter certificated. As it is i have used CrossClimates on 2 vehicles and used them from they came out on other vehicles all year or sometimes fitted a more winter bias tyre. Each time i do fit them then i try them in different conditions, that is by driving with them. Also trying how they behave stopping at a regular location in different weather. No need to go out of my way, it is someplace i drive almost every day. PS. Scotland, just been out about on slightly snowy but icy roads on CrossClimate SUV's, they are so so but nothing like as good as the Michelin Alpin 6 i now use when it is properly snow.
  25. @Urrell British / European / Scottish born and bread and my grammar is the same what ever country i will be in. What country are you posting from? as there is such a thing as Head for thinking, feet for dancing. People here keep posting about what they have in wheels / tyres and changing them by the season. They have the tyres that they have had on cars that are keepers, the ones the car came with, the ones people are posting that they fit in winter and then in summer, and then there are those saying they now use All Weathers. So those that say what different tyres they have used and are using have had them for a few years / winters now. Then they have driven for many years or decades, surely they know what works when and where if they have still got the power of memory.
