Wish I could estragos, but I'm afraid my memory fails me. The vRS went in May 2019 (traded in for the GTI I have now) and all the paperwork went with it, so I've nothing to refer back to. I hope you have a better outcome than I did, but wanted you to be aware that a relative simple symptom could be a sign of something more serious. A stitch in time saves nine. Gaz

I had exactly these symptoms a couple of years ago, and on my vRS, the culprit was the coolant check valve. Gaz EDIT: Found my threads from 2018:

And you never know, the next one that comes along might be being sold by someone who knows how many gears it's got and whether it's a wet or dry clutch DSG. Pretty fundamental really. Gaz

I can't find any reference to a 7 speed DSG for this car: Taken from here: https://www.autoevolution.com/cars/skoda-octavia-2013.html#aeng_skoda-octavia-2013-20-tdi-at-150-hp And from Parkers: Even Wiki confirms it'll only be a DQ250. Something's not right. As George has pointed out it couldn't (shouldn't) have the DQ200 because of torque restrictions. And even, in the extremely unlikely event it were to be a one-off with a very early DQ380 (production started in 2015) 7 speed, that's still a wet clutch. Unless something's happened to it, and it doesn't have the box it came with. Quite fascinating Gaz

My 2018 Golf GTI has the 6 speed wet clutch DQ250, so not exactly 'old'. If if does have the DQ200 7 speed dry, then it's got completely the wrong DSG in it. Are you sure it's not a 1.6TDI? You need to know exactly which DSG it has, but irrespective of that I'd be walking away by now. Gaz

Hello Kieran Must admit I though all the 2.0 TDI's from that year had the 6 speed DQ250 wet clutch DSG. Perhaps ask them to clarify exactly which DSG it has. Gaz

Rims look smart I find myself looking at the '55 aspect ratio, wistfully thinking 'I bet they're more comfortable than my '40's' on our current roads. 40 years ago I'd be dead envious if any of my mates had low profile tyres, and I felt the bees knees when I got a car with 185/70's. Now I'm thinking I might look for 165/80 13's on the list of my next car. How times change! Gaz

Give me knobs and buttons any day of the week, and I agree there are safety issues. I also find it very frustrating that however clean and dry my hands are, the screen will end up with lilac/purple paw prints on it that I then feel the need to clean off. Gaz

Thanks xman for your pioneering spirit My VRS's rear discs were pitted and noisy and got replaced at under 20k miles and under two years. It had an analogue handbrake so was easy to keep clean and shiny afterwards. The GTI has an EPB so I was wondering how to go about it. After a few stationary weeks recently there was a noticeable donk donk donk from the rear that took a couple of miles to clear. Like irc's reversing suggestion too. Gaz

15.5mph is just the speed the electrical assistance cuts out at. I quite like this as anything above it and I'm getting more exercise, under my own steam. I had a Badass dongle on mine, which meant I could ride effortlessly at 31mph, which was fun, but I ended up just being in a hurry to get everywhere. Having had a significant off at 15mph which included some time in A&E, I decided that powered up to 15.5 is enough for me. So I've a Badass dongle, for a Shimano E6000 series going if anyone fancies one. Gaz

All joking aside, our Mazda 3 was one of the most impressive cars we've owned. I too would buy another. We only had two problems with it. The throttle pedal started to stick; five minutes with carb cleaner cleaning the throttle body fixed that. And the second was when I drove into the back of it with my car . That was embarrassing! There was also a reportedly duff batch of Moll batteries too, which might coincide with the year of your vRS. Gaz

I always find this most odd. My GTI had 24 miles on the clock when I bought it, and there was only one key. I was walking away as you've done, but went back for a chat and a second key was arranged as part of the deal. Good luck with your car hunting. May you have better success. Gaz

Hello and welcome Dave Boy were we glad to get rid of Mrs Gaz's '55 Mazda 3. Smart, tidy, comfortable, nice colour, faultless, 100% reliable. Couldn't even find anything to tinker with; even the tyres didn't want to wear out. Who needs that!! And it still looks as good as when wifey got rid of it to a workmate four years ago.
