There'd be no way of knowing whether, or when, it might go again. Just one of those things. Skoda had been replacing various units on the car (Heating Control Unit, Temperature Control Unit and others I forget) in an effort to fix the original fault. By the time I got the car back, almost a month later, they'd spent 30+ hours on it. The cost they passed on to me was £3,000. IIRC, the Coolant Check Valve was a c.£600 item. Gaz

Reading with interest, and just wanted to say hang on in there TBS. It'll come good. I had a turbo (IS20) let go in my vRS back in 2018, so empathise with where you are now. My vRS (Octy 3 TSI 220) had a Revo stage 1 map, which of course meant the final bill (or much of it) was passed on to me. Bottom end was stripped down as there was swarf in the sump, and the oil pump was changed as a precautionary measure, but the engine (EA888) survived unharmed. The map wasn't the issue on mine as it turned out to be the coolant check valve. I was very suspicious of the turbo letting go as the issue had been a delay of heating to the cabin, and the turbo let go within two miles of the Skoda main dealer who'd worked on it only 30 minutes beforehand - I didn't make it home. Anyway, good luck for a better outcome and getting yours sorted out. Gaz

I went from a 9-5 HOT Aero to a Mk1 Superb (V6TDI - my first Skoda) in 2012, and was very happy with the change. Not really comparable as cars as they had very different characteristics. My 2015 vRS (220 TSI) was comparable, performance wise, at stock and would show an Aero a clean pair of heels after its Stage 1 (c. 300bhp) remap. Still miss the Aero though. Rose tinted glasses and all that. I quite like the idea of a 280, but it's a want, more than a need, and I've never knowingly needed 4x4. Gaz

What 'opening' - have they traced the leak, but not fixed it, or not managed to find the actual problem? Either way that's pretty poor show. If your local Skoda are unable to fix it, you may want to consider bringing Skoda UK into the equation for their help (if you haven't already done so). Doesn't seem right that you should have to shell out for a known problem that the Dealers have consistently failed to resolve. Gaz

I’ve an orange ST five houses away from me. It’s a cracking colour 😎 Having gone from a vRS to a Golf (albeit a GTI) last year, I did notice a difference, but they are nice to have’s rather than decision makers. I liked the vRS seats, but the heated seats in the GTI are quite a step up. I do miss having a brightly coloured car Stick with the marque. Gaz

If it feels flat it might be worth checking the Air Mass Meter (do they still have them in 2012?) before you think about mapping. Think it may have been before 2012, but I remember someone saying the five speed box was the better one to have. Congrats on the new car Post up some pics. Gaz

Mine should still appear in my Fuelly below. That's on a TSI mapped to c.300bhp, 29.5 mpg over 21k miles. Low because I don't drive economically, and my commute was four miles of nose to tail traffic. On a 34 mile commute, I'd expect to see late 30's, and on a run, I'd get it up in the low 40's without trying. It's a peach of an engine in my opinion Very addictive after being mapped (Revo stage 1). Gaz

Hello Stanley I had a 1999 B5 (110 so pre PD) Estate, which I loved, and lasted several years with a mate after I moved it on. My Mk3 Octavia Estate was similar in size, if a tad smaller, but as a vRS was a very different car. My Mk1 Superb was cavernous compared to the B5. As Gissin said, depends on what you want/need. I may not have a Skoda at the moment, but I'll not hesitate to return to the fold, and quite fancy another Superb. Mine certainly lived up to its name. Gaz
