A suggestion for something that's worked for me before: File/grind/flatten the top of the triple square socket down, so there's nothing proud of the twelve 'teeth'. That will get you a fraction more into the bolt head, which may not yet be damaged. That fraction might be enough. When you put the socket and wrench into the bolt head, use a crowbar or large screwdriver between the back of the wrench and back of the plate where your wheel bolt thread's are, so you are putting pressure on, forcing it into the bolt head, giving it less chance to round out. As you apply pressure to undo it, tap the wrench (or even the flange itself) rapidly with a hammer, so what you're doing is a crude version of an impact driver. You've only got to get it to free up, and once it's moved you might have a fighting chance. Worth a shot. Gaz NB: and before anyone points it out, yes, I know the bottom of the bolt head is shaped to accommodate what is proud on the triple square socket. It still gave me enough purchase to free off a bolt i'd similarly knackered. G

That's a familiar phrase - do you work for Skoda by any chance Max? Neither of my DQ250 cars do it - at least that I'm aware of. I do find myself wondering how many DSG gearbox'd cars stall because of cold transmission fluid. CajoLajo appears to come from a land down under, so I suspect less of an issue over there. And if it isn't, and CajoLajo's DSG isn't behaving normally? Surely better to have it checked if they sense something may be awry, and get a thumbs up that all is well, rather than experience the expense of a potentially costly fault which could have been remedied early? I know which I'd rather pay for. Gaz

Cheers George - I'm a more recent convert to cycling shorts. I'm very self conscious of my disability, my right calf being some 3" less in circumference than my left. But a couple of years ago I thought F'k it, bought some, and haven't looked back. I've a risk of dislocation of my new hip joint, so getting back in the saddle has been with care and a fair bit of trepidation as I don't want to have to land heavily on my right side, so I've been doing shorter rides. This morning was only going to be about five miles, and I was in jeans. But it was so nice to be out I just kept going. Serves me right, but it'll be shorts from now on. Gaz

The Coniston is four and a half years old now, and still going strong. Celebration today as I did my first proper ride since my hip replacement, doing a 20 mile round trip along Eastbourne sea front, up over Beachy Head to Belle Tout and back. Hip feels absolutely fine, but unlike George, my derrier is feeling it a bit, even with my favourite B17 saddle. Took a snap of the Beachy Head lighthouse on the way past.
