Not using it means the fluid sits there not moving, this has a bad effect on all the rubber seals. Use it or lose it. Just regularly, doesn't have to be all the time.

TWO STROKE OIL IN WITH FUEL TDI PD
TDIum replied to johnyblade's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I used to work in the fuel supply industry. Check your change, that's all I'm saying -
Anyone recommend a sensible track day organizer? I mean a company that organizes relatively sensible track days, perhaps with some driver training involved, that does not attract numpties?
-
Okay first off, folk from the Isle of wight have a lot more to worry about than the the fuel they use. First recommendation is to move to a larger gene pool Second, the only reason for fitting a DPF is to stop the car from belching soot. Peugeot used a different system that also has loads of problems. So do other manufacturers. The only cause of soot from a diesel is unburned fuel, getting a remap will tend to make this happen more. You just need to let the car rev enough when its hot. Warm it up then drive it hard.

The MDI cables you see on eBay are the ones that adapt the MDI socket to a USB socket. My car with Amundsen+ came with MDI and the iPod adapter cable as standard.

Octavia estate rear side window, what are they?
TDIum replied to Yorkshire's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Its not an AM aerial its the diversity aerial. I would try and explain it but I'd be here forever. Its the reason the radio reception is so good. -
In that case I'm glad I no longer live on Pig Hill ;-p

Check the wheel nuts are done up tight!

Your car doesn't like the house. View a different one and see if this solves the problem.

OEM Head Unit Upgrade Options
TDIum replied to Golf-Fiend's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Maybe consider one of those FM transmitters you can plug into an MP3 player. -
Update: After some time with the car, I am quite happy with the auto lights package. I just leave the switch in that position all the time. Its a little bit over-zealous but I don't really mind.

Thule roof bars on the estate
TDIum replied to marcevo1's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Legal speed limit with any trailer = 60mph and no using third lane on M-way. Maximum safe speed with massive roof-box ......? -

I have the Amundsen+ and all my music on a very cheap 32GByte SD card (the biggest it will read). Only the head unit GUI is clunky to say the least - and I really don't like the display graphics or colour and wish I could change them.

So far I've not bothered to plug in an iPod even though I've got the cable and everything is ready for it. I also have a USB cable for the MDI interface (£5 eBay) but only used that once (limited to same GUI again).

Best thing about it is playback of music direct from iPhone 4 via bluetooth which puts the iPhone in control and no wires :-)

Advice to OP is to go aftermarket.

Fabia 1.6 CR TDI 90bhp appalling fuel consumption
TDIum replied to MikeHart's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Its not just Skoda that have such problems. -
There was a problem with my rear view mirror coming detached from the screen, this has been fixed under warranty. The auto-lights seem to work better now.
-
With the cost of fuel these days, the additional cost of running good quality tyres is minimal. So why not get the best, like Michelin or Bridgestone?
-
Okay thanks. I noticed they come on at 140kp/h but then stay on even when you are back doing in-town speeds. Can always turn them off using the switch I suppose
-
Hi thanks. turn out it was just my ex-gf winding me up! hers hasn't got DAB either. :wonder:
-
Hi I'm very pleased with my new Octy. Its an SE+ estate Only thing is I had the auto-lighting package added as an option (can never get enough toys). Left in the AUTO position the lights come on too early - when its almost broad daylight in fact. Is there a way to reduce the ambient-light threshold at which the lights decide to come on? Can a dealer do it by reprogramming?
-
Have you checked the wiring? Sounds like maybe you've developed some bad connections. Just a guess though.
-
Yeh well my SE+ has the 2 litre 140bhp diesel engine and I get an average of 55mpg according to the maxi-dot.
-
I got my new SE+ estate this month - I seem to remember also looking at the Elegence but finding the SE+ better value for me - but I can't remember the details. Bluetooth works perfectly with iPhone4 (phone, iPod playback via bluetooth). I got it with added cruise control (very much appreciated) and auto-lights (waste of money). HTH

Just joining now because I want to find out something specific. But I suppose I'll be around quite a bit. I also have a BMW R12GS motorbike so crop up on UKGSer sometimes and also various other similar ahem -special interest- forums. So does anyone know why my new SE+ Octavia didn't come with DAB enabled in the radio when my friends GreenlineII Octavia did?
