ACC misbehaving
@alancha if I’m recalling your posts accurately (Basingstoke - Southampton return; Basingstoke - Richmond return), it seems that on the outward leg of your journeys ACC is OK, but the return it’s not. So, could it be that somehow the problem resolves itself when left for several hours overnight? But why it happens in the first place is a mystery which, hopefully, will be fixed sooner rather than later. Alternatively, maybe the car just doesn’t like driving to Basingstoke 😂😂 (sorry, couldn’t resist that one…)

Anyone found anything in the Shop?
Cool. HBA is tempting… What extra colours are in the bundle?

ACC misbehaving
ACC is an similar to ordinary Cruise Control but with the addition of the ‘Adaptive’ feature (hence ACC). This monitors traffic in the lane ahead of you and detects if you’re travelling faster than the vehicle in front, slowing you down to match and maintain a distance behind. That distance can be adjusted to some extent. It works in conjunction with the Lane Assist so should adapt speed to traffic in the lane you’re in, not the one you are overtaking; also it should slow your car to avoid undertaking. Those cars fitted with traffic sign recognition (VRS does, I believe) has the extra feature that it detects the speed limit and adapts the speed to match; think this is called Predictive ACC but not sure. That’s my understanding of it, and am sure i”ll be corrected by more knowledge members if I’ve missed the mark.

Maximum item length that can be carried in estate
A further thought @Coume, front passenger seat pushed fully back, backrest fully reclined, near side rear seat back (the narrow one) in ‘normal position’ whilst the other is folded forward. That ought to allow enough length for the clock and hopefully elbow room for you the driver (unless you’re well over 6’ tall like I am!). It’s things like this that reminds me of my fathers 1970’s Volvo 145 - three single mattresses inside with plenty of room to spare, and the divan bases on the roof 👍

Maximum item length that can be carried in estate
I think it will be VERY tight or not do-able. Just been out to measure my courtesy car (1.0 e-TEC SE 1st Ed. Estate). Much to my surprise, and unlike all my previous cars) the front passenger seat does fold forward past vertical (see pic). With it pulled as far forward as it will go, and leaned forward as far as it can, the distance to the inner lip of the boot is 2.1m and the diagonal is just 2.3m. There is the recess/storage space on the driver side behind the back wheel which may give enough space for the base of the clock to fit in to. That also means folding forward all of the rear seats - so no passenger at all. So unless you have a different front passenger seat to the one I have it’s going to be very tight to say the least. Another thought, laying the passenger seat back and supporting the clock on other luggage may be an option as it could go forward to the dash. Having said that, I couldn’t work out how to remove the passenger seat headrest 🙄

Virtual Cockpit
I’m driving an SE 1st Edition which has a virtual cockpit, only two screens. A virtual mock-up of the speedo and tachometer dials plus digital speedo with driving data or whatever in the middle of each dial. the other does away with the dials - so a minimalist view (which I don’t like)

KPH/MPH
Likewise, almost… Not had my weekly non-update yet this week; and In the three months I’ve had the loan car I’m on 5,000+ miles. Thankfully the loan Octy4 is proving to be fault free so far.

It's taken me nine weeks to find these features!
When parking, just turning off the ignition puts the DSG ‘box in ‘P’ and applies the parking brake. Discovered it by accident one day after a few weeks of laboriously following the sequence of ‘P’, parking brake, ignition off. BTW - at the time, I was new to driving a DSG

Great drive. How are you finding your mk4?
Loving the drive of the Octavia Mk4. Currently I'm in a 1.0 e-TEC Estate DSG which is returning about 58mpg over 5000 miles. Best has been 62mpg on a gentle-ish run of about 70 miles. This is Alan car; my one 1.5TSI manual Estate, for the few weeks I was driving it before Skoda UK asked for it to go in for diagnostics (kph/mph issue)) was returning high 50s to low 60s too - but that was during Step 1 out of lockdown so traffic was light and motoring limited.

New Octavia Break
I’m driving a 1.0 e-TEC SE First Edition Estate, covered about 5,000 miles in just under three months, totally trouble free. It was registered in January 2021 so probably not one of the early ones, though I don’t know the build date. My own vehicle, a 1.5Tsi SE L First Edition, is awaiting the ‘the fix’. It was registered four months earlier with an estimated build date about June ‘20. Seems to me that the earlier the build, and the higher the spec, the more likely problems will exist. But I assume it’s not yet clear exactly which dates and models are affected else Skoda would have a fix by now. Meanwhile, I live in hope - or cloud cuckoo land depending on your point of view! ;-)

New to Skoda - where to buy parts/accessories UK?
It is indeed worth a look at the Dealers Parts Department. I was very surprised to find that my local one was quite competitive for a variety of things, even wiper blades and screen wash being lower price than I could online. A chat with your salesman may well secure a good price for mudflats and rubber mats - add a bit of a sob story, my first Skoda, want to look after it, partner has already been nagging, etc., etc., ... Last new car I bought I asked to include the plush carpet mats, my wife said no, we don't need them (save the ££s). When I picked it up the salesman opened the boot for me - there was a pack of four plush carpet mats for me and a bouquet of flowers for my wife! Smiles all round...

Don't hit pigeons.
Ouch! A hefty bill, hopefully covered OK on the insurance. With the danger of making this a game of ‘top trumps’, years ago (Triumph Dolomite days) I hit a pigeon head on at 70mph. What I assume was the beak took a lump out of the windscreen, which thankfully remained intact.

How many have rejected or are in the process of rejecting?
Indeed! I've had a loan car through the dealer for over 10 weeks now... But it is a very good car - the loan Octavia Mk4 I have is brilliant, and fault free over 4000+ miles. A real shame it's not the spec/engine/'box that I bought else I'd swap.

Cruise control
Yes; it’s the speed limiter holding it back when going down hill. I think it is great; and useful that the brake lights come on too.

Lack of power 1.5 etc compared to 1.4 2018
I think it is probably to do with the e-tec system. The throttle pedal on the 1.0 e-tec I am driving feels slow to respond, and needs a firm press to get quick acceleration. Putting the DSG ‘box in Sport mode makes it a lot more driveable around town, in ‘D’ it changes up at about 2000-2500 rpm instead of 3000+. All to do with emissions and fuel economy I reckon.

Rpm is high every time I start the car
I’m driving a 1.0 e-tec, in starting it the rpm is 1500.

SE Tech Brochure Jan-March 2021
Alas not. The brochure I have is dated 12/20 and would appear to predate the SE Technology as there is no mention of it.

KPH/MPH
The article relates primarily to the SOS call function which affected many a VAG car, which from reading here only a few cars now suffer with. The big fix expected (hoped for) this month is for the kph/mph issue as well as a bunch of other stuff - which is maybe why its taking a while to get it released. They will quite naturally want to get cars sorted with one update, not just fix kph/mph in one dealer visit only to have to go back the following week for another fix. Meanwhile, my car is at the dealer :-(

Contact import
Another thought, if you’re connected by Apple CarPlay (or, I think, Android Auto) you can’t use the usual /previous Bluetooth style phone connection as well. Use CarPlay for calls etc instead.

Kessy Not Working
I think I read somewhere there is a setting to enable/disable unlock on approaching the vehicle. As my one is at the dealers I can’t go check…

No 12 volt sockets?
Not sure of the voltage but the one by the rear view mirror is sufficient for my Nextbase dashcam
-
No 12 volt sockets?
None In the car. USB-C only in the cabin and one 12v in the boot

Traffic Jam Assist (Travel Assist)
I reckon, in theory, it can be done with a manual box. Yes, the driver has to change gear manually but that doesn’t deactivate ACC if its a quick enough change - so in theory it could bring the car to a halt. As to what benefit it provides I’m not sure - other than marketing hype. Have I tried it? No. Will I try it? No.

Phone - Tablet charging
Yep, the specs are a bit misleading on that - but the two in the front console are the only two that can be used for data/file transfer, hence the wording. The two in the back and the one by the mirror are power only.
