  1. Given I keep my cars for a long time (eg typically 13 years or more) depreciation doesn't really bother me as much as the upfront cost. However, my understanding is similar to others in that there is a large core of people who don't have access to charging points or driveways and will always want and need ICE powered vehicles, meaning demand is unlikely to tail off and is actually more likely to increase second hand residuals for smaller efficient cars. That's certainly been the case for some vehicles that have been withdrawn from sale as manufacturers start to move across to hybrid and lower emissions versions as they strive to meet fleet emissions targets (eg I understand that the 1.0 boosterjet Suzukis are now in high demand second hand since being withdrawn from sale a few months ago, with dealers chasing current owners to trade them in as they have buyers waiting for them to become available).
  2. draft question but have you changed the oil filter recently? I had a similar problem on our old ATD 1.9 TDi Fabia and it was the filter that had gone... it wasn't due t be changed but had kind of collapsed and folded in on itself somehow so was causing an intermittent warning light when slowing...
  3. Those connections can take a hell of a push to click home properly too. I did one recently on my Octavia and found it easier to refit the clip into its latched position after the hose was pushed home fully.
  4. Link added above.
  5. That's an aftermarket hid burner to fit a H7 halogen light unit. A replacement is probably something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CNLIGHT-H7-HID-Xenon-Replacement-Bulb-2-Bulbs-Headlight-35W-50W-AC-Metal-Base-UK/331468780437?hash=item4d2d143395:g:0hMAAOSwwbdWQx6g&redirect=mobile
  6. I had a civic for a few years without a wiper that was regularly treated with rain repellant. It was a pain so I would always make sure I had one on any future car.
  7. He he... I've till got my Raleigh Pioneer Trail hybrid from 1991... Reynolds 501 frame with a full Suntour XCT Xpress gear set. Was bought for john o groats to lands end (we did 550 miles then gave up in strong winds as it was when sevenoaks became five oaks in a storm) and still works spot on
  8. Don't know but I paid £288 all in to have my Suzuki Swift delivered from Lurgan in Northern Ireland to Sheffield on a transporter if that helps? It was all arranged by the dealer.
  9. The Mk1 Octavia's were very popular with Taxi drivers and the like and I recall that was one of the reasons they remained on sale well after the MkII had been introduced.
  10. So @J.R. was spot on with his prediction...
  11. Those wheels look good! I've been thinking about getting our Apollons done (if we decide to keep to for a while) and had been told to try AP Tyres but RS Wheels look to be anther option now. £216 doesn't look bad all in for powder coating - did you also borrow a set while they were done?
  12. I'm certainly not a great fan of touchscreens but can see their place for less used elements. The Swift has one for the radio and satnav but manual controls for the HAVC and for turning the driver assistance features off and on. It works reasonably well (Big contact patches to hit) but fortunately the radio etc. can also be controlled by buttons and voice, the latter working pretty well really and managing to understand my 'Yorkshire' accent... Overall I reckon the above is a pretty decent combination but would hate touch only!
  13. I've seen damage like that once before and I believe it was caused by the driver reaching for the belt with their right hand over their right shoulder and pulling the belt forwards rather than with their left hand over their right shoulder and pulling across. Seatbelt edges can be very abrasive.
  14. Roku's are brilliant. We have three and even my 84 year old mum can use one...
  15. Is that from the Boucher Road dealer?
  16. You'll enjoy the MX-5... I've had my MK1 since 1998 and doubt I'll ever sell it.
  17. Glad you're sorted! Have to say though I personally prefer the look of the pre-facelift - I'm not a fan of the way the black grille sticks out or the black wheels on the facelift (but each to their own and clearly it appears to be a much better car than the other one you were looking at).

You do better than me - I find I can't ignore some of the bucolic 'crap' that gets spouted...

Oh dear... Not another one! I guess the reaction you already have is typical of why? I tend to agree with your sentiment but find the other stuff on here makes it well worthwhile staying. Please reconsider!!
  20. I've had a MK1 MX-5 for 25 years... Nowt wrong with it other than needing servicing, and a few 'upgrades'...
  21. I'd go 2 or 4 depending on the colour of your car.
  22. Oooh... Lying buggers! Complete opposite to the dealer I got my swift off then who were totally up front and sent me over 40 high Res photos and info and said I was ok to send the car back to them if it wasn't 100% what I expected or what they said...
  23. That's bad... But did you not check keys and repairs and the like with them over the phone before putting a deposit down?
  24. The guy with the Scimitar GTE also has a V12 E-type...
  25. Sorrrry... Got carried away... How about a TVR flat plane straight 6 Or an Essex V6 in a Scimitar GTE... The one across the road from me sounds nice
