"New" Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Was chatting with a dealer over the weekend who mentioned the new vRS may well be more sporting than we think..

Theres been talk of one with the Golf R32 engine and 4wd. Should be very interesting if thats the case..

Not substanciated yet but something to work from?

Paul..

very interesting indeed...

wonder if they could keep such a car in the vRS' current pricing !?

I would guess itd have to be speccd as the top of the range but undercutting the golf by a good margin.. Guess theyd pitch it at 18-19k undercutting the golf by 3-4k?

Paul..

The R32 is rubbish though. For such a big heavy engine, it's grossly underpowered and hideously thirsty. Look at what BMW are doing with 6 pot engines of similar capacity.

If they slap a couple of turbos on it, it might be worth a sniff, but otherwise I'd sooner give it a miss.

Guy at work bought a brand spanker R32 Golf 6 months ago. Nice car - a bit too Maxy P for my liking but nevertheless a nice car. Anyway, fuel bills were absolutely crippling him so he's chopped it in for an A3. Just thought I'd mention it......

Could this be it? The tailpipe, spoiler and wheels certainly look the part...

Ah, the "new octavia accessories" shot appears once more.....

(nope, thats not it)

Ah yes, I thought I'd seen it somewhere else before. Arrrgghhh... The suspense is killing me. Will there be a final 1st gen Octavia vRS special, and what'll the 2nd gen vRS be like? I'll be getting the 2-year car change in a couple of months, so I hope they release more info soon.

I've been reliably informed (by skoda) the new vRS is due in 2006!!!! DOH!!! Keep waiting, but there has been a

I really hope they dont use the R32 lump - the fuel and emissions are :thumbdwn:

For company use that would put the tax at the same level as an imprezza.

I got the vRS estate as it offers a great mixture of performance and practicality with a tax bill that nothing else can come near.I did the sums agaibn last night to see if I wouls still go for another one if it was for replacement now and I could not find another petrol car with comparable performance without paying a lot more in tax

FSI turbo with 200 + sounds good though....by the middle of next year!!

Well I'm sure when mine is 5 years old with probably 150k on the clock it'll be time to change to a new one ! Lets hope there is a sporting diesel version.............

i'm in the same boat andy... keeping mine for at least 5 years... i'd deffinately have another one though, perhaps the estate...

btw... you got a pic of those RS4 wheels on the octy ??

it seems everyone's local dealer is telling them something differenet!

i've now heard:

- r32 engine (least likely imho)

- 2litre FSI turbo

- 180bhp turbodiesel - from the sales manager in horners, this is 'definite'.

waiting in anticipation.............

I've heard the 180bhp turbo diesel mentioned and a 200bhp 1.8 turbo petrol.

"FSI turbo with 200 + sounds good though....by the middle of next year!!"

I wish, but I doubt, more likley it will be the 197bph 2.0FSI lump currently targeted for the A3/Golf GTI/Seat/..........

with the current HP increase race, a 197hp car 5dr sloon in 2006 will not be stunning amongst the competition. It needs at least 250, although via a turbo'd unit than normally aspirated, as that will keep MPG nice and high!

180bph DIE-sel, wouldn't that be the current 2.5V6 from the VAG store?

maybe even a 4motion verson as the VW Golf has just released one see the Whatcar new as below

Volkswagen has launched four-wheel-drive versions of its Golf small family car in Germany, with British versions expected to follow next summer.

The 148bhp 2.0-litre FSi GT petrol and 138bhp 2.0-litre TDi GT diesel models will use the latest version of VW

The system can now divert as much as 100% of the power to the rear wheels if it detects a loss of traction.

That would be cool if you could "hack" it to just be RWD :D

I had a sit in my dealers new shape Octavia demo the other day, and I thought a lot of it was a step backwards. I know it wasn't a high spec model, but while some of it seemed 'clever design' a lot seemed poorer quality materials. Thought things like the indicator stalks looked more Vauxhall! than VW group, the seats weren't up to much, wasn't convinced by the looks. I only spent a couple of minutes looking at it but didn't leave thinking 'can't wait for the vrs version!' which is what I was hoping for.

To tempt me into the new shape vrs, they would need to offer the following:

Noticable improvement in standard; cornering/suspension, breaks, and most importantly, power! I would want 220 plus as standard, I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra as long as the performance was there.

I have had and Octy 1.9tdi in the past and liked it. But had to say was dissapointed when then selected diesel for Faby Vrs (sorry to all Furby owners who addore them and i am sure rightly so!) but I thought it was Skoda's opportunity to really try and steal the market. If using a diesel powerplant, then I think they should have made the car class leader in all of the other areas, breaks, handling etc. I know on TG and FG it beat the Cooper, but why not make something that would smash the competition, not just pip it to the post. I feel that if Skoda just pump out another Vrs using the same powerplant thats knocking round the VAG factory floor, and not getting any enthusiasm for the car, then they will struggle to get the sales they have enjoyed with the current car.

Anyway, I am tired, don't know why I have decided to ramble on endlessly. So will leave it here.

Nope. Probably the new 2.0 TDI 16V, which is mentioned to be in a new Golf GTI. Also as 2.0 FSI turbo.

keeps fingers crossed for Diesel Octavia vRS that sounds koooooool

il have to get a spare car then

No no no no the only thing that would garantee I dont buy a new Octy vRS when it arrives is if they make it a oil burner :(

Sorry but I do see the benfit of a being Diesel - mpg etc but IMHO a performance engine with the current technology needs to be petrol for many many reasons.

Fine to do Diesel option for a car but make the top end performance one a petrol please

I'll run & hide from any one with sdi on there boot now ;)

i think the strongest option is the 2ltr fsi turbo PETROL...

i think the reason the engine in the fabia works so well is that its a small car... ok the PD130 octy is a good car and goes well but its no vRS beater is it !?

No no no no the only thing that would garantee I dont buy a new Octy vRS when it arrives is if they make it a oil burner :(

V8 bi-turbo diesel with DSG might be nice though ;)
